History
The humans of planet Earth had long lived in harmony with mother nature. However, in the past hundred years, things had been different. The humans no longer respected animals, and many of the species were restless. A group of wolves searched the land masses for some way to get away from the human menace. The year 1960 was upon them...
They found their solution near the coast of Africa. Over hundreds of years, somehow unseen by humans, continuous volcanic activity formed a new land mass. This area had become a utopia over the years, and the animals realized that this might just be their chance to get away. They swam from the coast, drawing further and further away until they could no longer see the mainland. They finally reached the sandy beaches of a new continent. This area, for now unknown by humans, was exactly what they had been searching for. The animals quickly settled into their new home. The animals lived in harmony for over forty years.
In 2000, the humans finally surveyed the land mass. Somehow, their scientists had overlooked this land, and their ship routes had mysteriously passed it by. A horde of humans flooded the continent, sticking their noses in where the wolves believed they didn't belong. Mankind attacked them, slaughtering all the wolves in sight and burning large areas of the island. Finally, accepting that this place was not fit for human life after their tyrade, the scientists left, deeming the land uninhabitable.
Wolves that had hidden from the human's flames and the merciless weapons slowly began to emerge from their hiding places. Over the next eight years, the plant life gradually grew back. Now, the wolves needed to figure out a way to survive with many of their resources exhausted...

Ranks [Packs] « Thread Started on Jan 31, 2008, 4:35pm »
Alpha
The highest rank in a wolf pack; Alpha. This wolf is solely responsible for accepting wolves into the pack, assigning ranks, and calling war. They delegate tasks to other wolves, and they are the most respected in the pack. Alphas can rule alone or with their mate. This rank is highly disputed before it is finally selected within a pack. The Alpha must have the full support of their pack for everything to function properly.
Beta
The Beta is the second most powerful wolf in the pack. Beta wolves are highly respected by the alphas and trusted endlessly. Alphas give important tasks that they cannot handle to the Betas. Beta wolves have the authority to punish members, call hunts, and work with the Alphas. There can be up to two Beta wolves, whether it be two seperate wolves or a pair of wolves. However, if a single wolf gains a mate, there can be up to four Betas.
Lead Warrior
The most cunning, strong, and stable-headed wolf; the Lead Warrior. This wolf is in charge of strategy plans for war, training warriors, and assisting the Alphas in selecting good fighters. The Lead Warrior is chosen based on a series of mental and physical tests. Only one wolf will fill this position to prevent conflicts of judgement. The Lead Warrior must be strong, brave, strategic, and mentally sound. They work closely with the Alpha in war-time. Although they make suggestions, the Alphas ultimately have the final word.
Lead Hunter
When a hunt is called, an Alpha or Beta cannot always attend due to other business. When this occurs, the duty falls to the Lead Hunter. This wolf plans attacks on prey and gathers the necessary wolf power to have a successful hunt. The Lead Hunter may be chosen in a variety of ways. Whether the Alpha is looking for a strong, agile wolf or a cunning, thoughtful wolf or a combination of the two, the Lead Hunter plays an important role in the functionality of pack life.
Shaman
The healing wolf of the pack is known as the Shaman. This wolf has a wide knowledge of natural medical practices. They use herbs and what little medical supplies they have been able to unearth from the human invasion. This wolf must be unpartial to anyone and willing to treat anyone in need. The Shaman typically serves in this position their entire life unless the Alpha feels the need to replace them or promote them.
Hunter
Hunters are essential to the pack. They provide the life-giving food for each member. Hunters are fast, listen to instructions, and work well together. They need to work as a unit in order to down prey. The responsibility of the hunts falls on these wolves, and they are expected to provide a steady flow of food, even during droughts or famines. The Hunter is under the orders of the Lead Hunter during hunts, and they are subject to all higher ranking wolves.
Warrior
The fighting wolves of the pack; the Warriors. The Warrior is a rough, tough, and bold wolf. Warriors are strong and brave, willing to lay down their lives for the members of their pack. They are always at the front lines during battle and are trusted to protect the elderly and the young of the pack. These wolves need to be well-trained and have no problem killing another wolf if necessary. The safety of the pack is in the paws of the Warriors. The Warrior is under the direction of the Lead Warrior.
Gatherer
The Shaman often needs supplies for their work. A Gatherer collects herbs and salvaged materials for the Shaman to use. The Gatherers are usually potential Shamans that still need to learn much before they have the opportunity to fill the position, typically around or under one year old. Shamans teach these wolves the major parts of working with medicine through example and explanations. These wolves, if they do not eventually fill the Shaman position, will likely become a Hunter/Warrior or remain a Gatherer.
Subordinate
Subordinate is the beginning rank of the pack. Subordinate wolves have not been in the pack long enough to be evaluated for a proper rank. They are not necessarily useless, they just haven't had time to show their potential. Pups under ten months are considered Subordinates as well. The Subordinate rank is for new pack wolves, wolves who don't have any immediately useful skills, or pups.
Omega
The Omega; the lowliest of all the pack wolves. Alphas have lost trust in these wolves or they have done something unforgivable. The Omega is always the last to eat, the last to be thought of, and definitely at the bottom of the social hierarchy. The Omega does not have any redeeming qualities in the eyes of the Alphas. They have done something that threatened the safety of the pack, or they have done something that the Alphas deemed irresponsible or unnecessary.
