Continental Herbs
Nonpoisonous
- Aghada Leaf
This small leafy plant grows in clumps along the roots of trees. They prefer shade, and they will rarely be found out in the open. The leaves are a yellowish-green in the spring and summer, and they turn a sickly brownish-green in the fall. When ingested, it cures common illnesses, such as coughs, fevers, and soreness.- Agrimony
This plant's light yellow flowers have multiple uses. They act as a minor painkiller when crushed into a paste and smoothed onto wounds, and they accelerate the healing of open sores. The plant has jagged leaves and often grows at the base of trees.- Angelica
This extremely pungent plant must only be used in small doses. It acts as a sedative when the fumes are inhaled at a close range, and they are used for stomach aches when the juices of the leaves are taken in. This plant has small bristly leaves that grow in large bunches. It turns a dull red in the fall. Although not common, it is a known fact that certain wolves can become addicted to the sweet scent and calming effect.- Blue Lobelia
The flowers of the Blue Lobelia reduce coughs and cause inflammation to subside. The juice of this plant's roots is used to reduce inflammation when smeared on a wound, while chewing (but not swallowing) the leaves will cull a cough. The plant is a yellowish-green plant that only blooms during the spring. Its flowers are a vibrant red.
- Burdock
The broad leaves of the Burdock plant, when pressed against a bleeding sore, release oils that encourage blood clotting, slowing the flow of the blood. This plant grows like a fern in clumps along watery areas, and the leaves often wither within a few days of harvesting.- Birch Bark
The bark of the common birch tree is flaky and is easily pulverized. When inhaled through the mouth, the powder will supress nausea. When mixed with liquid and swallowed, it works to lower fevers.- Bamboo
The large stalks of bamboo grow in clumps in the damper areas of the continent. When split, the soft inside of the stalks works as a vomiting inducer to flush the system, clearing the body of any unclean things. The hard, wooden-like parts are often saved to splint a broken paw or leg.- Catnip
The anxiety-inducing qualities of catnip are counterbalanced by its medicinal purposes. This plant, when used in small quantities, upon ingestion, lowers fevers and reduces physical irritation. The plant is common in many temperatures and areas, making it easy to obtain. It has coarse leaves with easily recognizeable red veins through the leaves.- Dragon Fruit
The red bulbs on the dragon plant, known as a dragon fruit, is hard on the outside, but it is filled with a thick liquid on the inside. When smoothed over wounds, it removes infections and reduces inflammation. The dragon plant is most often found near other plants, as it feeds off the nutrients of other plants.- Echinacea
The Echinacea flowers are easy to spot. They have vibrant pink petals and a plushy brown center. The flowers grow in patches, often in clearings where they can be exposed to direct sun. When the petals are mushed, the salve combats infection. It can also be used for a minor numbing agent in the mouth, but the juices are poisonous if directly ingested.- Ginger Root
The Ginger root is a light brown root that can easily be sniffed out. It has a very distinct scent, and it can easily be identified by the tuffs of wispy-like grasses above the dirt. The root, when chewed, relieves stomach issues, helps throat problems, and eliminates minor health issues. It also can be used as a preventative for illnesses in pups.
- Ivy
This overgrowing plant spreads across everything it touches. The three-pronged leaves often have a lighter green interior portion and a darker green outer spot. The chewed leaves help with depression and, and the juices act as a heavy painkiller, numbing the area that is rubbed with it. As in the human world, some wolves can become overwhelmed by the narcotic effects, and lose themselves to addiction.- Licorice Root
The Licorice Root is quite deceptive in its name, as it is actually an above-ground plant. It has jagged white flowers and round-tipped, green leaves. The flowers contain medicinal purposes, but the leaves are extremely toxic. The flower excelerates the effects of other herbs and reduces the toxicity of herbs.- Nicotiana Benthamiana
This close relative of the Tobacco plant is among the hardiest of its family, able to grow in arid and rocky areas, as well as near tropical ones. As a result, this newcomer to Anikira, brought by the humans, has recently begun to thrive in the Kamari Wastelands, as well as beginning growth in other regions. Based on where it grows, the plant can be up to 1.5 feet tall (In less sunny areas) or flat but with a diameter of nearly 20cm (In dryer areas) The entire plant is a yellowish green, and rather difficult to see offhand. It contains many stimulants, and can keep a wolf awake for nearly a day straight from a small dose, and can wake up even the most heavily sleeping brute with its scent. However, prolonged use can stunt growth, and the plant is highly addictive, containing Nicotine.- Prickly Pear Cactus
The prickly pear cactus grows in bunches in the warmer areas of the continent, although it can sometimes be found in other areas. The fleshy parts of the plant are covered in thorns that must be removed before use. The soft inside of the plant induces sleep. Depending on the dosage, it can last up to a couple of hours or as little as a few minutes.- White Poppy
The petals of this delicate white flower have a wispy look and are soft to the touch, almost velvety. They grow on high stems and are easy to spot among other flowers. The stem is a heavy painkiller, while the flower itself reduces excitement and relaxes the mind.
Posionous Herbs
- Astragalus Bulb
The Astragalus is a beautiful plant, and it seems to hold no secrets. It has a bulby head that varies in colours, and it has a slender stem like a massive blade of grass. But underneath the soil it hides the ugly thing that is the cause of death. The bulb is about three inches across, and is a perfect dirty sphere. The root is low in the ground, and is hard to extract. It causes fever and spontanious sweating, leading to a temporary failure of the immune system. It can be counteracted with the Kaminhad. It is found near Drarynough.- Kava Kava Leaf
Each of the Kava Kava's nine leaves hold a different chemical, on their own, not a single one can harm a wolf. But when they are mixed together, they make a deadly coctail that attacks the heart immeaditly after ingestion. The fact that all leaves have to be ingested makes this hard to apply. It slows the heart to a dangerous level, resulting in a massive heart attack that likely ends in death. It can be cured with Red Ominah or a massive dose of Aghada. It is found in the Usklhon.- Black Poppy
The Black Poppy is identical to it's white cousin in every way except one. Instead of the delicate white leaves that adorn the plant, the Death Rose's leaves are brittle, with as much strength as ashen paper, the same colour too. As the leaves break at the slightest touch, it is rather hard to obtain this plant. It contains Neurotoxins that cause the brain to shut down within six hours. It can be cured only by a dose of Isalandi. It is only found in the Sands of Rodorr.- Rosary Pea
Though less deadly, this is alot easier to become afflicted by. The rosary pea is about a foot and a half high, growing primarily in the areas around the Chamoru Plains and bears a set of bright red berries similar to cranberries in appearance. These items contain a toxin called abrin, a molecule that prevents protein bonding in cells, specifically by deactivating the ribosomes. These are highly potent, and a single molecule can deactivate 1500 ribosomes per second, resulting in a death dosage of three micrograms. Based on exposure, chances of death can range from none to certain, and delay of symptoms can be 1 to 3 days after exposure. There is currently no known cure.- Ajuga Reptans (The Unlife)
The only plant found in the poisoned lands of Kamari, the Ajuga has not gone unaffected by the toxins in the lands. This flower is about six inches high, with a thin stem, small petals, and is entirely a light shade of pink. This is because of the fact that this plant contains no clorophyll, and logically should not be alive, thus its name. It only remains alive by sapping chemicals and dissolved iron from the polluted area around the Enakir Springs, though this gives it a completely lethal quality. Any sort of ingestion results in an immeadiate reaction. Toxins attack the brain, starting with the Medulla Oblongata and working their way up, and, within moments, the afflicted will no longer have the ability to live. When seen, approach with EXTREME caution.
