Inara wondered only briefly if someone would spot her and think she was fleeing Ina’mos.
As it was, the diminutive female’s head bobbed above the tame waves, her tiny paws cresting the water occasionally as she paddled towards the coral. While some of the larger brutes of Kairos might have been large enough to walk the entire way to the atoll, as the water truly was shallow considering the vastness of the ocean, it was not to be for Inara. She was so small that her feet did not touch the warm, wet sand in several notable places, and so she was resigned to swim. She could just imagine Goliath himself or his equally frightening beta coming bounding after her to drag her back to Kairos, where she’d been unwillingly confined for some time now, but it would be pointless. The Iranian female had to remind herself that it was no longer like that. No more would she be suspected of running, not considering her recent 'change of heart'. She was simply exploring her new home – as much as it was still odd to think of it as such – after resigning herself to the fact that she would not escape. When Goliath had first brought her here against her will, she’d resigned herself to sulking and picturing escape. She was angry, so very angry, with the circumstances life had dealt her. She could remember the very day she’d spotted him on the sandy shores; she’d known at the time that she should have fled from such a colossal beast, but she’d been struck dumb by the sheer size of him. Inara had never stood a chance. Afterwards she’d vowed that she would escape from him, and then finally the realization had hit her. She was surrounded by water, surrounded by pack mates, and surely she would be spotted fleeing. Goliath would not stop hunting her she suspected, and he could cover much more ground than Inara herself. It was futile. She was trapped.
Originally the thought had hurt her more than anything else. She’d been so determined to prove herself, to show that she was not as weak and naïve as everyone thought, and look where that had gotten her. Now, however…now she was resigned to her fate like a prisoner resigned to the gallows. And so it was on the warmest day of the season (which was still not particularly warm due to winters frigid grasp) that Inara had finally dragged herself from her hiding place to explore. The atoll was first, and although she hadn’t expected to have to swim since she loathed water, it was too late to turn back now. Just a little further, she told her tiring limbs, hating the way the cold penetrated her short fur. Almost there.
Finally, her paws brushed coral. A relieved sigh slipped from her muzzle as she pulled herself onto the shore of the atoll, her paws finding the soft spongy coral as she slipped further onto the reef. Everywhere she looked the vivid colors of her surroundings greeted her, calming her irritation enough for her to relax. Only her paws were submerged now, and she found that she minded this much less than her entire body being surrounded by water. After a moment she sat, enjoying the sounds of the waves and the cries of some noisy bird in the distance. She could see the shores of the island from where she sat, and although she was technically still within the borders of Ina’mos, Inara felt…distant. Separated. She knew that at some point she would have to begin meeting her fellow Kairos members, but for now she would be content to enjoy her final moments of peace, the calm before the storm.
