That would have been a death sentence. Despite what felt like waiting around for nothing Kade was enjoying the time that they got together before they left. Kade was a little nervous about their journey, unsure about what the future held for them. He was reluctant to let River down or put her in harms way. He had heard good things about this Lalani character, but the fact that he had never met her put him in a rocky position. If it had been just him then he would have braved the introduction, he could handle himself. It was River that had him so worried. He knew that she wanted to be with him, but this was a situation that he could easily control. There were no other males to tempt her away from him. She was so very young and hadn't reached her full maturity, meaning that there was time for her to change her mind before she took a partner. Kade was afraid that if they went to the pack she would find someone else that caught her eye. Not that he would let her leave, but it still caused him to think about it. He knew he wasn't the best choice for a companion, but she had chosen him none the less. If he was a better wolf he would let her go when the time came for her to take a mate, but alas he was not a good wolf.
She was his and he wasn't going to let her go, other wolves be damned. Despite his worry he was a possessive creature that would keep her for as long as he could manage. He chuckled to himself knowing that he would succeed. If he didn't he would probably drive himself mad. Kade hadn't thought of other females in a romantic way, but there weren't others around. River's reaction to Lisa's presence hadn't gone unnoticed, the hostile jealousy in her eyes. He hadn't thought of River as his mate, just his companion, but then again he had never thought much of taking a mate. Kade had no idea whether or not he would want another female, but River was his. River was sweet and kind, the perfect candidate for a mate, and Kade was fond of her, but she was too young. He wasn't going to cross that line until she was ready. Until he was ready. She was his and that was all that mattered now. He would keep her safe and keep her to himself so that her decision was easier. Less competition if he didn't let anyone else around her. He was eager for them to start their journey if only to get it over with so that they could settle into their new lives. A new place, a fresh start for them both. Even though they had spent some time together Kade still didn't know much about her. Mine that is all that matters. Mine.
