The amusement in the other wolf's expression was not at all a surprise when he heard that Elijah had encountered an unfriendly bear and did not intend on taking one on alone again. It was common knowledge that a single wolf was no match for such a massive and powerful creature. But, even still, if he had to do so to protect his new home, he would without a moment's hesitation. But when the conversation took a more somber turn, the white male tilted his head curiously as he studied the other male's expression. He seemed say, upset that he lost his brother. He could understand the feeling, to an extent. He had never felt any love for his own family, and he had no adopted family like Than obviously had. He could offer sympathy, if it were his way, but he could feel no empathy or connection with the sadness that was running through his multicolored counterpart at the moment.
He could not help but think back to his own family, a brutal group that had only brought him pain and suffering. Was it really worth attempting to look back on them with affection and fondness? Sure, Than's brother had given him the scars over his eye, but still he could find affection and love for his adopted brother. But Elijah simply could not, and as he looked back on his own family, he found himself sighing softly and shaking his head. "It is good that you had a family that you can look back on with such fondness. I would say I envy you, but I see little point in wishing for a past that I cannot change." He said, frowning slightly as he registered the words that were coming out of his mouth. They were true, and honest, but he realized now that they might have been a bit more blunt and harsh than he had meant them to be. Either way, there was no taking them back now, and he found that even though they were coarse, he did not wish to retract them.
After a few moments, however, he did push himself to his feet, stretching slowly and yawning softly. He was getting hungry, and the day was moving forward towards the night. Eventually he would need to sleep, and if Than was serious enough about claiming this territory for his pack, then he was sure that it would happen sooner rather than later. He would hate to be falling asleep or dozing during the claiming, so he figured that a hunt and then some sleep would be the best thing for them both this evening. Whether they did so together or not, he decided to allow Than to choose. He would eat either way, but perhaps a small hunt would be another way for them to get to know each other. Hunting and working together with another wolf was probably one of the best ways to tune into their thoughts and behaviors, for it required silence and skill, two things that would force both wolves to work together without words and learn the preferences and movements of the other without the luxury of asking questions or barking orders. It would be interesting, but the white male was unsure of whether or not any prey would be easily accessible to them out here at this time of the day.
