Lietus stood on the edge of the lake peering into its waters. Much reminded him of the first time he had met another wolf on these lands. Time had passed since he had met Rita in the hills not far from here. He had changed much since then as well. He had grasped speech with a surprising ease. He was still not overly fond of its use but could converse easily enough and with no pain anymore. His mind had also been pushed back into wakefulness. The long sleep it had gone into when he had been nothing more than a shadow of the land itself had made his mind slow and lax. Now here in this place it had picked back up. Unwoken strength of mind was finally finding a reason to test itself.
Then there had been the dream. The dream had come to him several nights ago when he had rest in the forest not far from where he currently sat. The dream had been odd and disquieting. The dream had him back in his home land wandering the pale snow covered trees through dead underbrush. The sight of his homeland has satisfied him in some unknowable way. There he had been at peace. He did not think, did not speak. Just existed as an extension of the world around him. His sense of self there had bled into becoming part of the land he walked. He did not see color, did not hear music in the birds voices, only saw and smelled what was needed to keep him alive. It had been an existence of peace though one of monotony.
Then the dream had begun to shift. Feeling hungry in his dream lands he had begun to hunt. The scent of a buck healthy and large. Normally this sort of prey would be one he would pass on. Not needing the abundance of meat nor wanting to risk the battle it would bring. It wasn't as if he had never hunted the larger males before. He had brought down more than his fair share in his life time. That was not an excuse for arrogance. However this time the scent drew him further onwards towards its maker. As he pursued the creature he ran silently through the woods his coast seeming to shift and change blending in with the shadows as he ran.
In the dream he came suddenly upon a clearing, there in stood a massive white buck with odd blue eyes. The buck watched him as he came into the clearing. As Lietus approached it he felt a wave of awe over take him. The sensation was at once unpleasant and comforting. He came to a stop mere feet from the buck and sat suddenly. He watched the creature intently as it also watched him. As he studied it a voice seemed to flow from the woods around him, “This one knows our creation and knows it well. But he yet does not know himself or emotion.” The voice was powerful in a gentle way. It did not strike out at him but instead seemed as if it itself was made of power. The bucks eyes never left his face as Lietus turned around puzzled at the source of the voices location.
“Seek not my voice but instead the blessed land Lietus. Seek out the one I have called forth to make my pack and my land. Seek out Thanatos and he shall be the one to lead you to Eden.” As the voice faded Lietus felt his dream self become dizzy and as he collapsed to the ground he snapped awake from the dream. Panting as if he had just run for an entire cycle of day and night he stood shakily and felt the pull of something leading him onwards. Pushing aside the disquiet from his mind he followed it. That had been several days ago.
Now he found himself here, on the lake side, waiting for something. All he knew was he sought one called Thanatos, and that this Thanatos would lead him to Eden. Lietus had puzzled over the spirits words in the days after the dream but had made no more sense of it. So instead he pushed it off to the side until he could get more information on what he had been unwillingly pulled into. He rested on the shore of the lake on his haunches and watched the waters gently stir with life.
