Changes have become too severe in Anikira, and the wolves have been temporarily relocated to the Anikiran Southern Isles. Things have grown dire and unlivable on the mainland; it was time for outside intervention. Please be sure to review the full update on the staff board for more information!
The current season is fall in the Southern Isles. Due to their proximity to the equator, the region is still warm. There is currently no breeding and no birthing amongst the wolves
It was something that Aurik swore he would never do.
This pack had quite the reputation swirling around it. Aurik may not have truly "heard" things, but he was fairly certain that any spawn of the late Ferus alphas had to be quite a piece of work. There was no way he was going to allow Roka to go into this unprotected, and it was with that revelation that Aurik marched forward to what might very well be his own doom. Surely Kairos could not be as bad as he imagined, but that did not help to quell his fears. He was not the picturesque pack member by any means. His deafness worked against him in many ways; he was seen as handicapped, and in some ways this was very true. He had to adapt in ways that others did not in order to get by. But that did not mean he was not a valuable resource. There was also one thing that Aurik tended to keep to himself.
He was not born deaf.
Aurik had kept this little bit of information to himself for the most part. His mother had informed him when he was younger that it was her fault. However, the male could never truly place the blame on his mother. She had cared for him the best she could given the circumstances. While he was not certain on the actual illness that caused his hearing to go away forever, he did know that it was due to exposure to the elements. It had been so long ago that he had no true recollection of ever hearing. That might have been for the best, as he grew up well adapted to his particular challenge.
While many looked at him as a weak link, he was strong in heart and loyal to a fault. After all, why would he be trudging to the borders of Kairos if this were not the fact? Aurik was willing to face down the alpha of the largest pack on the continent in order to be there to support his friend. And while he did not approve of her decision, he was not going to leave her to face this new challenge on her own. That was what a true friend would do, was it not?
And so with a heavy heart, the grey male strode up to the recent scent markers that indicated the borders of the Kairos pack. There was no better place than here. The male would not dare to set one paw inside the pack's borders without approval. He was not suicidal, nor was he stupid to pack etiquette. He needed to lay as low as possible and maintain full neutrality and respect all their customs if he even stood a chance at existing here.
But he would do it for Roka.
And with a lunge of his head, the mottled male cried out for the alpha of the territory, summoning any member of the pack that might have the authority to bring him into their ranks. This was the end. But perhaps it was also the beginning.

[attr="class","pltxt"]Something smelled…. Off. Perhaps it was only the stench of a decaying kill, yet to be picked clean by scavengers – or perhaps it was the fresh dung of an herbivore caught in a wayward breeze, arriving on his nose as though to mock him of the prey’s successful elusion. The alpha of Kairos sensed something distasteful that certainly did not belong on his land, lingering in his nostrils like a beckoning poison – and so Goliath obliged the unwary stranger, hunting down the fool that dared trespass their unwelcome paws anywhere near Vor’asa.
A throaty growl rumbled from between his clenched teeth as he heard the stranger’s call, and he soon found the source of the foreign scent; a sandy speck in the distance, and even as he approached, the wolf remained just that – a tiny speck. The small wolf, clearly male from his musky scent, was certainly not what he was expecting to encounter. A brute so small should have known better than to wander so close to Kairos’ borders, but his distrustfulness soon gave way to curiosity when he realised that the wretched loner appeared to be waiting patiently for a welcoming. The odd scenario quickly became rather humourous to the colossal brute, who offered naught but laughter as his own greeting to the stranger, rather than a rigid, vicious growl.
“You’re either lost... or very brave, stranger,” he muttered casually, weighing up the brute and coming to the irrefutable conclusion that this wolf couldn’t have weighed any more than his smallest daughter. A wry smile separated his lips to reveal an unfriendly set of yellowing fangs. Perhaps this creature could offer him more than a laugh at his expense. “I don’t care to know which. But, as you’ve so kindly respected our pack borders, I’ll humour your story before I decide how many pieces I will leave you in,” he spoke with a droll lilt, his tail flicking in transparent interest. His brow furrowed with a detracting smirk, disturbingly too heavy for one side of his face, and he eyed the small brute with a candid glint in his eyes. “Six seems a fair amount. I've always been partial to even numbers.”
As most rumors go, there are discrepancies. However, not much could be said to that extent about the alpha male that led Kairos. He was the epitome of what Aurik might have expected, yet that did not diminish the sinking feeling that rushed over him like the cold winter's breeze. Aurik did not frighten easily once he had set his mind to something, yet the swift approach of the hostile mountain brought the doubts swirling to the forefront of Aurik's mind, consuming him with their mocking cries as the beastly alpha addressed him. "I am neither lost, nor am I exceptionally brave," the male stated matter-of-factly to the alpha, his eyes never leaving the great male's face as his body hunched and tail curled beneath his hind legs in submission. He could be of no benefit to Roka if he were severed into several pieces, as this male so aptly stated. It was a scare tactic, however it was working quite handily on the smaller male. While Roka may not have been far larger than he, it was no shock that this alpha talked down to him in such a manner. He did not have the build of a warrior or the grace of a hunter. He lacked many of the things a leader would seek for in a male who sought entrance into their pack. However, he held a skill that none possessed to the same degree as he.
"You do not see much in me, I am aware," he stated candidly. There was no reason to beat around the bush with the large male. He could only offer to the pack what he hoped would be enough to gain him entrance. "However, I possess something that you would be interested in, I believe." The male's ears remained perfectly stationary apart from their slight droop to acknowledge the male's superiority. He was not one to provoke a fight where one was unnecessary. He merely needed to pique the alpha's interest enough to persuade him to listen. It was a matter of proving his worth to the pack; if not, he would likely not walk away with his life. He was certain the great male could overtake him in a matter of two strides, severing his limbs in the most gruesome of fashions. It was not a fate he desired, so he would have to be persuasive in his actions. Gone was the trembling, insecure male that often rear his head in the face of conflict. He would become what he needed to be in order to protect Roka. His mistrust had not been placed without reason.
"I do believe there are wolves you have been seeking. The rumors make their way throughout the loners of these lands." He raised his brow in the male's direction, anxiously awaiting the alpha's response. Perhaps he could appeal to the male's savage nature as a means of securing entry. Certainly Aurik would not hesitate to throw another to the wolves of Kairos if it meant protection for himself and, in turn, a watchful eye over his friend. There were so many things at stake, yet he could not even judge from the great mixed male if he would hesitate long enough for Aurik to explain. He did state he would allow the male time to present his story, but the latter of the statement brought him nothing but unease about the outcome of this particular meeting.
At this point, the male had done nothing wrong. He was situated firmly on the borders of claimed lands, not daring to set foot within the scent-marked territory without invitation. He knew better than to defy pack etiquette, particularly for a pack the size of Kairos. They would be able to destroy him at a moment's notice. By all technicality, the alpha would be in no honorable position to lay a paw upon Aurik. However, the male doubted there was much honor in the ways of the alpha, at least from his first impression of the male. He was a leader who ruled by fear and size, not by loyalty. His power rested in his absolute control. Aurik presented yet another position to the aresenal of Kairos; craft and absolute atunement with the world around him. What he lacked in strength and hearing, he had gained in wisdom and oneness with his surroundings. Now whether or not the male would see benefit in these things was yet to be seen.

This untraditional coupling is one of the truly loving matches in Anikira. Although they are members of two different species, Calantha and Rikez have overcome the differences and rose above, finding love in the most pure of ways. And from this pairing, a litter born of two loving parents was conceived. These little boys and girls will have the great honor of being raised by two parents that support each other, while many of the offspring in Anikira have not had such a benefit. The pair are truly fitting of one another; both kind-hearted and generally good individuals.
