Pain. Irritation. Exhaustion. It all hit her at once. That morning, everything had been so peaceful, so calm. She knew that she was close to her time, but she had no idea it would feel like this. She was a warrior, a Kairos Praetorian. She was strong, she had felt pain, she had seen battle. This should have been nothing. It should have been a breeze. But this pain, it was like nothing she had ever felt before. It tore through her body, rippling in wave upon wave that seemed to congregate in the exact place that she was unable to stress, unable to relieve. She had expected pain, but not like this. A snarl of both frustration and pain tore through the cavern around her, a place far enough away from the other litters that she could give birth in peace, but still much closer to the entrance than the other mothers. Her litter, it would not need the protection of the winding tunnels of the caverns. They would be strong, they would have her. Plus, she wanted her den to be easily accessible for both herself and Datura.
Datura, the thought of the female that she had met before she had even joined Kairos did not even provide her any comfort or relief. She knew that the Matriarch of Kairos would definitely appear at some point, if not during her birth, then definitely to see her litter after they were born. But right now, the Praetorian was ready to tear into the rocks on the walls, let alone any wolf that might accidentally happen upon her. Another snarl tore through her, along with a rippling pain as she moved from her stomach and onto her side, her ears pinned backwards and her eyes squeezed shut. Why had she agreed to this? It is all his fault. None of this would be happening if Goliath had not sent her off like any other female of the pack to enter an alliance through pups. She did not blame Severus, the father of her pups, but the Alpha of Kairos himself. How could he do this to her?
The pain ebbed slightly, lessening enough for her to finally think clearly for a moment. What was she thinking? Goliath was her leader, her alpha. She had no right to blame her pain on him. She had agreed to this, it was her fault and her duty. Her tongue lolled out of her mouth as she panted heavily, her body shaking and trembling as she laid there, waiting for the pain to return. She knew it would happen, she knew that she would give birth today, but she reveled in the short amount of peace that she was allowed between contractions. For now, she rested, she caught her breath, she prepared for further pain. It would come, although she could not even pretend to know what to expect, she knew that it would come.
