Changes have become too severe in Anikira, and the wolves have been temporarily relocated to the Anikiran Southern Isles. Things have grown dire and unlivable on the mainland; it was time for outside intervention. Please be sure to review the full update on the staff board for more information!
The current season is fall in the Southern Isles. Due to their proximity to the equator, the region is still warm. There is currently no breeding and no birthing amongst the wolves
Moonlight shone brightly on a still lake, the shining light illuminating the surface of the water in a perfect reflection of the night sky covered with a light layer of clouds. Without warning, a large catfish broke the crystalline surface, leaping several inches out of the water in a dramatic fashion before smashing back into the lake, sending ripples out that went nearly to the shore. A disgruntled snort came from the tree line, and a frozen shadow materialized into the shaggy form of a wolf with a shake and a step. Dark gray fur was dull in the light but noticeable, partially due to the lighter coloring of the belly and chest reflecting the ultra-bright rays of moonlight filtering down from between clouds that matched the wolf's coloring.
Half-lidded gray eyes glanced around, then up, then back down to the lake, and a frown formed on the slim muzzle below them. "Damn fish. That lake was much nicer when I was sleeping next to it," Auron muttered under his breath, with a voice that was ripe with immaturity but deep enough to challenge assumptions of age. Long legs stretched this way and that for a number of seconds, fur along the wolf's back rippling as he worked different muscles to wake them. Evident underneath the thick fur were both spine and hips, though the extra-fluffy chest fur mostly hid the stark ribs poking out along his sides. The fact that he was malnourished was not something Auron was eager to showcase, but there was only so little grooming he could do before he looked more like a bear who had just finished hibernating than a skinny little wolf. The fact that he ran on the small side for a male gray wolf didn't help, but at least the heavy pelt concealed his outward hunger from a distance.
Dainty paws brought the beast forward, carrying him several yards in order to bring him close enough to the still-rippling lake so he could lower his muzzle and take a few laps of the clear water. The male had grown used to this lake and its serenity over the past few days, but perhaps this late-night disturbance was his sign to start moving on again. He didn't have a lot of options, being a wolf without a place to call home, and he had been searching for some time to settle down. The problem was, each pack he encountered didn't take to his personality, or he theirs, and his visits usually ended with him fleeing with an upturned tail and tucked-back ears. Eventually, he supposed, there would be a place he belonged, though perhaps it would not necessarily be with a pack; he certainly didn't mind being on his own, though it did guarantee that he would go hungry nine nights out of ten.
Once he had sated his thirst, the young male turned and headed out toward the dark hills, hoping to find some sustenance to keep his energy level up. He knew he was well within pack territory, but so far he had not been approached by any wolves and assumed that the small lake was not well visited. There were many places to drink in these sloping lands, and evidently the pack was not terribly efficient at exploring its own lands, so chances were good that he would not even encounter any wolves before he passed over their lands entirely. Though he would prefer to meet a pack to stay with, or at least interact with for a while, it might be best that he not get caught so far into their lands.
Suddenly the dark wolf froze, blending into the landscape for a moment as a small creature crossed his path. It was a rabbit, hardly more than a few bites, but Auron's stomach rumbled almost audibly and his hunger urged him forward, slowly, stealthily. The rabbit was unaware of the threat, simply dawdling along at the top of a grassy ridge, its brown fur nearly glowing in the light filtering down from the moon. Auron's bright eyes flashed momentarily in the same light, and he darted forward, carrying his body swiftly up the hill, putting more effort into his steps to make the climb. He was, however, woefully loud for a hunter, and seconds after he started, the rabbit heard him and dashed off to the right, headed down the hill and out of sight.
Cursing, Auron picked up speed and cleared the top of the hill with a bound, only to stop short on the other side, blinking dumbly around him. His prey was gone, having had quite the advantage over the petite wolf. With a pathetic huff, the male flopped his body to the ground, chest heaving with the effort it took to even get up the hill. He was pathetic and he knew it, but this was something else; losing and meal and his breath in mere seconds? This was a new low, one that meant he likely needed a pack if he wanted to continue living.

This was the first time in a long while that she had ventured out of her packs territory. The region of Shyia had become home to her and she felt safe there among her friends and family. She had no blood relatives on this continent, but she had an abundant family. One name popped into her head when she thought of her family. Thor. Ever since he had told her those three simply words she couldn't help but imagine having a family with him. He had made her felt so precious and cherished and now she wanted the chance to return those feelings. He had run from her needing to return to his own pack, but she wouldn't forget him. She would bide her tie and count the days until he could come back for her. He had promised to return for her, but what would come after that. Would he want her to return to his pack with him, or would she ask him to stay in the north with her.
For the time being she would remain in the north with her pack, where she belonged without Thor. One of her closest friends bore a striking resemblance to Thor and they had more in common than she would like to admit. The only difference in appearance was the scar that spanned over Thor's eye. Alina thought that it made him all the more handsome. She loved the rolling hills that spanned Taiyr, the green grasses that flowed in the wind. There was always an abundance of prey in this area, which was good considering her lack of skill in hunting. So many smells surrounded her, making her turn her head with wonder. She didn't know if she would be able to leave this land without losing a little piece of herself. She didn't just love her pack she loved the land it was built on.
Walking along the thick grasses she came across a new smell, one belonging to a stranger. Alina loved meeting new people, making new friends. Picking up speed she took off at a slow lope doing her best to keep up with the trail. Once she was close enough to spot the newcomer she paused looking at him. He was dark like a few of her pack mates, so unlike Thor and Kujo. Smiling she ran u to the male, making herself known. Her tail wagged back and forth in excitement as she looked the male over. "Hello. My name is Alina. What is your name?"

Alina - Female - Red X Eastern Timber Wolf - 2 years
Auron was lying flat on his side, breathing normally after a few moments, the scowl still evident upon his face. It was pathetic and awful, how badly he hunted, and he had always done poorly. He wasn't slow, but he was quite loud when he ran, and thus scared away most creatures before he even got within proper striking distance. Had he not been born into a land full of prey, he perhaps would have learned to silence his steps and hunt like a real wolf, but as it was, he was lucky he was still alive.
A sudden voice startled the dark gray male, causing him to leap to his feet and whip around, body low to the ground in a defensive but terrified stance. His bright eyes were wide with fear and his nostrils flared to take in a feminine scent, staring at the light colored female and her happy, friendly expression. She was greeting him, greeting him kindly and announcing her presence, her name, even asking for his. Blinking in confusion, Auron froze where he was, eyes softer now, curious, but his body unable to react properly. He had never been approached in such a way, and his only other interaction with a wolf in these lands had been with Rikez--the male who towered over him with his bloody muzzle, spoke little, and walked away after minimal interaction.
This... Alina? Had she said Alina? She was clearly not out to attack; her posture was relaxed and loose, eyes twinkling to match her smile, bushy tail wagging. Slowly Auron relaxed himself as well, lifting his skinny frame to its full height and shaking his head slightly to clear it, trusting her enough to stop being defensive but not quite enough to take his eyes completely off of her. He was larger than her, but barely, and most of it was his frame. She was well fed, clearly, whereas he was mostly skin, bones, and fur. Hopefully she had not witnessed his brief and embarrassing "hunt" moments before.
"Uhm. Hello there. It's nice to meet you, Alina," he said quietly, his voice masculine and melodious, and following his words was a brief dip of the head, offering the female a bit of respect in case she were a wolf worth impressing. "I'm, uh... Auron." His name tasted funny upon his lips, and he frowned lightly before putting a small smile on his face, giving his own tail a short wag to show her that he was not unwilling to speak with her. "I apologize for my, err, reaction. I realize that I'm trespassing on pack lands and I was worried you were coming to displace me." With any luck, she would direct him not away from the pack lands but further into them provided that they were in a position to accept new wolves into their ranks.

This wolf's reaction was amusing to Alina making her giggle in glee. He had actually jumped in surprise making her arrival all the more fun. He had an unusual name that made her wonder where he had come from. She didn't even know where her own name had come from. She had just woken up on that beach wondering who she was and knowing that she was Alina. She gave the frightened stranger a reassuring smile hoping that he realized he was safe here with her. She didn't think that she had ever attacked anyone in her entire life, especially not someone that she didn't even know. "It is alright. No one is going to attack you here." She hoped that this newcomer would relax because his tension and fear made her a little tense. A wolf that was cornered and on edge was a wolf to be feared. If he felt backed up into a corner there was no telling what he would do.
Alina's tail continued to wag back and forth and she kept her face in the form of a radiant smile. Her blue eyes practically sparkled in curiosity. "If you don't mind me asking, where did you come form?" She had only seen this north part of the continent but she wanted to learn about the rest. Perhaps if she decided to venture out into the world she would find Thor again. A part of her liked that idea very much, while another part of her didn't want to leave her pack. If she did leave she would be leaving a part of herself behind. "I belong to the pack that loves around here." She hoped that by sharing about herself it would help this stranger to open up to her in return.
This female is awfully friendly. It's kind of weird, Auron thought silently, eyeing Alina and wondering what he should think of her. Nice, sure, but... who is really this excited to get to know a random stranger? Especially a thin and scared one? Shaking his head to clear those thoughts, he focused again on what the female was saying, trying to understand why she was asking. What did it matter, where he came from? He wasn't there anymore. However, since she was being so kind to him, he figured it would be better to answer.
"Well, uh... I'm not sure where it is in relation to here," he started off blandly, glancing behind him for a brief second, as though that would help. Returning his gaze quickly to the female, he continued to speak. "I've been on the move for about a year and a half now. Passed a few packs but mostly kept to land I knew wasn't claimed. It's been rough but apparently I'm supposed to make it for now." Though that last comment was dark, he shrugged and chuckled a little, smiling slightly at Alina. "Probably would have been easier if I learned to hunt better."
As they stood their, idly chatting in a way he had never done before, Auron loosened up his tense muscles and began to relax in earnest, trusting his life to this kind female. In his years of life, he had never felt threatened by a female, but he knew what they were capable of. It was hard for him not to trust their soft features and delicate eyes, and the fact that he had only really dealt with maternal females and sisters mean that he didn't even think females could be anything else. It wasn't as though he thought they were below their male counterparts; he just didn't think they could do the same things.
As he took in Alina's features more carefully, he noticed that she was quite a beautiful creature, well groomed fur and brilliant blue eyes standing out clearly in the grassy fields that surrounded them. Auron had long passed puberty without ever having any desire to create a family, but he still could appreciate a pretty face, and this female certainly had one. "Which pack is that? I've heard there was one nearby but I can't say I've met anyone out here besides a few fellow packless," he said after a pause, cocking his head to the side as he awaited her response.

This untraditional coupling is one of the truly loving matches in Anikira. Although they are members of two different species, Calantha and Rikez have overcome the differences and rose above, finding love in the most pure of ways. And from this pairing, a litter born of two loving parents was conceived. These little boys and girls will have the great honor of being raised by two parents that support each other, while many of the offspring in Anikira have not had such a benefit. The pair are truly fitting of one another; both kind-hearted and generally good individuals.
