The beach was warm, the sand hot even, and the sun shone brightly overhead as the large male made his way along the coast. There was a cavern here, he had only briefly come to know it as a youth, but today he found little desire to enter and explore. No, instead he patrolled the sands, green eyes carefully judging the terrain ahead as the water lapped almost lazily against the shore. It was late morning when he had arrived here, and though he had taken his time to move across the area, it was still only afternoon when he finally came to a stop at the edge of the foamy water. It danced ahead of him, threatening to wet his paws as his tail swayed gently behind him in the soft breeze. It was relaxing almost, the day so far, but he knew that many things could go wrong on the island within a matter of moments. His father had fallen ill, and though he had meant to tend to him that day, he found himself father away than he had intended to travel. Perhaps his brothers, or the females of the pack, would care for him, and he was sure the older wolf would be well enough and on his feet soon enough. At least he hoped so. He could not bear to loose another parent, even if this time it would not necessarily be his fault.
His thoughts wandered slowly as his ears focused on the sound of the water, but all the while he did not fail to keep track of his surroundings. But, as he began to think about moving on, his stomach growled. He frowned at the sound, but he knew that he would have to find something to eat soon. He thought of the cougar, the one he had left behind with Rikez only a few days before, and thought about turning around to find both it and him. But he figured he should at least finish his patrol first. He would return for his friend before the night. But, perhaps the other male had found his way into Airila territory, come to find him, and possibly his father as well? He had not seen him early that morning in the forest before he had come to the beach, and he figured he would turn back before the sun began to drop in order to search for him once more within the trees. After all, he had promised he would return for him, it would only be dishonorable for him to not keep his word.
For now, though, he stepped forward, towards the water. Perhaps there would be fish here, several yards towards the sea from the warm beaches at his back. He moved slowly, his long legs carrying him easily through the shallow water, and his large chest slowing him down even further as the liquid grew deeper. And yet, he did not stop, not until he was deep enough that he could keep his footing while watching the fish swim around him. There were not many here, but their numbers increased slightly the longer he stood still. Eventually, after several minutes of stillness passed, he dunked his head in the water, lifting it back out of the liquid with a large gray fish in his jaws. Satisfied with his catch, he turned, making his way out of the water and onto the beach, where he laid down to begin to each his fill.
