He should not have been there, he should have been safe with his brother and staying out of trouble. The pass was not a particularly safe place to begin with, but in the darkness the mission that the young male was on was likely all but suicide. He was smarter than that, he had a brain behind him, but he also had ambition, and youth. Inexperience and curiosity, and a sense of invincibility overwhelmed him, even though he knew that in reality he could lose his life here tonight. A more intelligent and experience wolf might have turned back and bedded down for the night in some safe shelter with his brother, but Olympus had something to prove, not only to himself, but to his father and to Kairos. He had been growing more and more every day, succeeding in the swim to the Vor'asa was only the beginning. He was stepping closer and closer to reaching a year of age, and he had to prove his worth to his pack before he had any hope of returning with his head held high.
Large, almost overgrown paws carried him slowly over the rocky terrain of the path, the moon and stars overhead appearing almost like a blanket under which the clouds and fog had decided to crawl. The darkness was overwhelming as he moved, though as his eyes adjusted slowly to his surroundings, he managed to keep a fairly stable footing and avoid tumbling into the rocky side of the pass that he had decided to travel along. Surely the center of the pass, where he could likely find a suitable path, would have been a more serene and stable choice of walkway. However, the young male was not altogether a fool. He knew that the center of the pass would be where the creatures of the night, the unknown monsters of the Vor'asa, would make their usual travels. Perhaps by keeping to the larger, harder-to-pass rocks, he could avoid their wrath for the night.
He could sense the coming morning as he moved further and further into the pass, though he knew the safety and security of the light would not come for hours still. He had at least some idea what he was doing, what he was getting into, but at the same time, he needed to prove there was at least a bit of bold independence within him. Since their birth, he and his brother had been glued at the hip, stuck together and bonded almost like they were destined to be together always. But Olympus knew that their soft and pampered life as pups could not last forever. It would end, and it would end soon. When they returned to Kairos, they would either be dead, or they would be warriors, adults of the pack and the future their fathers looked to. But none of this would ever happen if they hid away like weak pups and did nothing during their trials in the Agoge.
