How had his life come to this? Auron's thoughts flashed back through his short life in seconds, revealing only how little he had done, as his howl of pain was cut short by a set of jaws over his. He had been attacked out of nowhere, hadn't seen the blur of a black coat dart out from behind the trees to latch worn but sharp teeth directly onto one of his tarsals, fracturing it with a practiced snap.
Earlier that day, Auron had simply been traveling, as he had for most of his life, searching for a place to call home. He had left Rita and Alina behind, though they both had more going on in their lives and wouldn't likely miss him. They had found a home with Airlia, become comfortable with the wolves there, but he had not. Something about the area simply hadn't seemed right to him, and so he moved along, heading east toward the coast in the hopes of running into someone.
Though his usefulness was limited, the male was certain he could have found something to give back to a pack in order to have a family, and he would have done it willingly. Since he had started interacting with his fellow wolves, Auron had learned that he had a large heart and a lot of kindness to share, if nothing else; but, tragically, his life seemed to be nearing its end at only three and a half years, spent doing nothing.
As the pain in his leg faded to make room for the pain in his muzzle, he knew he had little choice--it was either do or die, here and now. The wolf who was attacking him had been swift and strong, something he had not dealt with since he had first set out, and as he tried to find the wits to counter-attack, his jaws were free and he snapped wildly at the air, eyes running red with blood that had flowed into them. Half-blinded, the grey brute whirled around to the thudding of footsteps behind him, bellowed out a threatening cry, and finally caught a glimpse of his attacker.
The male was thin and long, shaped almost like a weasel, with fur as dark as the night around them. Moonlight glinted briefly off crimson-tinted teeth as his enemy grinned at him, taunting him, his right side turned away. His green eyes were cold and calculating, and when Auron rushed him, he didn't even move; it was unnecessary, as Auron tumbled shortly after he began his offense, forgetting about his severed Achilles' tendon in his desperate fury. Agony tore through his body, his adrenaline refusing to let him stop trying but doing nothing to end the pain.
This can't be how it ends. came into his thoughts as he struggled to rise on three legs, With a start he realized that his attacker was gone again, and he whipped his head around desperately, unable to hear over the roar of his heart, pounding in his chest. Don't let it be.

It had been easy, tracking down this loner as he stomped his way loudly through the trees. Clearly no one had taught him to step lightly, which likely meant that he had no loved ones to speak of. He smelled of only himself, and had been headed due east for three days now, clearly ambling in that direction for a reason. Well, Venom would make short work of him and soon he would be going nowhere fast; cruelty would shortly rip the life from this traveler, and he could be very cruel.
Brilliant green eyes flashed in the moonlight as he moved along, his pace distinct due to the slight hop he made with his rear end. A long, thin tail waved wildly behind him, briefly hitting a stump--the stump of his right rear leg, all that remained of the limb these days. Despite his marked disadvantage, Venom had grown to be a cold-blooded killer, and his ability to adapt meant that, while he perhaps was not entirely silent, he still was an apex predator who knew how to make himself unheard
And that was how he moved, with purpose, head held low, long body flowing between tree trunks and bushes with the easy motion that came with years of experience. The loner was moving slowly now, probably preparing to find a place to sleep, and he would not get that chance. His next sleep would be eternal.
Claws dug into the ground several seconds before Venom made his leap, long jaws opened only wide enough to encircle the gray male's tarsus. The larger wolf snapped those same jaws shut with as much force as he could muster, large ears having no trouble hearing the howl of pain that erupted from his quarry's lips, inky black fur moving swiftly in all directions as the male let go and backtracked, circling around halfway as the other turned his head as well. Another snap of teeth and the pressure was now focused on the muzzle of the other brute, still shocked from the first attack.
Now that the stranger had seen him, Venom would have to silence him as effectively as possible--not that he hadn't planned that from the beginning, of course. Jaws disentangled from jaws as the older wolf darted away once more, surprisingly agile despite his lacking a limb. Had he not had years of experience, it would have been impossible for him to do as he was now, circling the terrified gray wolf so that his one-legged side was facing away.
A fierce grin spread across his face as the loner stared at him, though whether or not he could see through the gore in his eyes was unclear until the fury replaced fear, and Venom's heart nearly trilled with excitement as the counter-attack began and failed in one smooth motion. A deep-throated laugh left his throat, low and eerie, and he moved quietly behind his quarry again, preparing to end this charade. When Auron's head whipped around to try and see his attacker, Venom struck.
One slick motion brought gaping jaws to turned throat, and the darker male clamped his mouth shut with incredible force. The action cut off airflow to the lungs and severed one jugular, and causing the victim to buck wildly for a moment before settling down, gasping despite the fact that he could not possibly breathe. Venom felt the heartbeat of the wolf through his teeth, starting extremely high but steadily dropping. It wouldn't be long now.

Notes || Calantha can walk in now or however you'd like to do it. I figure Auron will have enough energy for one or two posts before he goes, so let me know if that's good and I'll end it when appropriate. (: Then Venom will run off in another post for Elijah to find him.
