The day had been long, full of walking and not much else. Journey and her brother Summit had taken advantage of the beautiful day they were given, but nothing could last forever, and the sun was rapidly escaping their sight as it began to dip down below the trees. The two seperated briefly, planning to come back together when one or the other found a suitable place to bed down, and Journey set her sights on the sparkling river.
Before she was able to lower her muzzle and drink, the she-wolf spotted an irresistible opportunity--just beyond the bend of the river lay a sleeping fawn, big enough to be a decent meal and small enough to be catchable, and not paying attention to boot. With crouched form and green eyes focused, the female slid forward, inching closer and closer to her quarry. But luck was not on her side, and the premature screeching of a waking owl acted as an alarm, causing the deer to shoot up and away, barely registering the real danger out of fright.
With a snarl Journey set her paws heavily to the ground and dashed forward, cursing her size disadvantage as the young creature steadily moved away from her, gaining distance from its incredibly long legs. Still the foolish wolf continued the chase, until she left the river and found herself running through a field of flowers, the reds and golds and greens all mixing together as she sped past them. When the potential meal darted behind more trees and out of sight, the white wolf slowed to a trot and stopped, panting heavily from the effort of trying to keep up with her escaped meal.
The sun was hidden now, but light still permeated the field surrounding her, and she glanced in several directions before stopping short, her eyes training upon a lupine form watching her. Blue eyes peeked out from a white and gray face, and Journey flattened her ears to the back of her skull, instinct lifting her lip from her teeth as she observed her observer, nostrils flaring to pick up a feminine and airy scent. The stranger did nothing as Journey met her eyes, and as she realized no threat was imminent, the spotted female lowered her lips and focused on getting her lungs relaxed, realizing that a potential friend could only help she and Summit along their trek.
"You could have helped, you know," Journey called in her deep and soothing voice, flicking her ears back to the top of her head as she settled herself down to the ground, unwilling to move closer despite the hefty distance between the two wolves. "I lead him straight to you."
