History: Veralidaine was born into the Kalak collective, a group of wolves that couldn't really be considered a pack, but that had come together to create a plan about the humans that were taking away their source of food and invading the grasslands where they lived. Her two sisters were weaker from the start, one only surviving for a few breaths, while the other managed to hang on for about a month, too short to even have her fur turn red. Some whispers said that Vera's spotted pattern came from her sisters, and looked askance at the dappled pup, while others called such superstition nonsense, and treated her like any other.
Vera stayed with the collective for almost two years, following around the spies that they employed to get information on the humans and their movements, using the things that she learned to sneak into the meetings that were held to discuss tactics. More often than not, she got away with the behavior, but after she was caught for the fifth time, the collective had had enough. They accused her of being a traitor, gathering information and feeding it to those who would stop the wolves' plans. She was driven out, while her parents looked the other way, hoping to be spared the same fate. Their behavior, while callus, didn't surprise the young wolf in the slightest. They, after all, had been the ones to teach her a lot about greater good, and about tactics.
The next year found Vera roaming around South America, sticking her nose into everything and gaining experience in all sorts of things. She ate when she could, stalking prey and digging pits, although more often than not her hunting capabilities failed her, and she was left to invade orchards and the like to find the fallen fruits that the humans had put behind bars there.
It was in one of these orchards that her life changed again. While eating, she was captured by the humans and then stuck into a cage. From that cage she was transported to Brazil, stuck on a ship, and before long, was making her way to South Africa. She didn't know it at the time, but she would be the newest addition to a private zoo there. All she knew was that she was in a tiny cage, pitching and rolling, for almost a month.
From there, things didn't really get better. She got thrown into a cage with a (luckily) senior grey wolf (Cadence), one who wouldn't have been able to go after her even if she'd wanted to. From Cadence, Vera learned a lot more about the land she'd been transported to, since Cadence had been there since her own puphood. From Cadence she heard about Anikira for the first time, although she scoffed when the old grey spoke of a wolf haven of sorts. However, as she heard more and more tales, she started to believe that Cadence was actually telling the truth.
Sadly, it wasn't until the grey's death that Vera had an opportunity to go looking for this fabled island. A mixed blessing, a worker spotted the lifeless body and rushed into the enclosure, forgetting about the other wolf who resided there... Who had been waiting for just such a chance. Vera slipped out of the gate, running flat out for as long as she could run no longer. And for once, freedom was within her grasp. That was, until a sting came, and she stumbled, and blackness enveloped her.
She woke up in a cage, another wretched pitching ship. This time, however, it wasn't for too long. Storms off of the coast brought the ship to an end, and by a stroke of luck, Daine's crate not only washed up on some form of shore, but also broke apart, leaving the wolf upon the rocks. From there, she awoke, and despite some disorientation, began figuring out what her new location was... No scent of humans, anywhere? It seemed that she had possibly found the island that Cadence had told her of. She had found Anikira, and she was going to make it her new home.
About a year's worth of roaming the island, and the young wolf is young no more, either in age or in knowledge of her homeland (or, at least, the warmer parts of it. Her coat is no good for the cold!)
Personality: Vera is a very easy creature to approach, her face reflecting a very friendly, welcoming personality. However, don't take that to mean that you can walk all over her! She's got a bit of fire in her, and doesn't really tolerate any rude remarks, although she doesn't have the same issue with debates. Her temper can flare if she's pushed hard enough, but generally, she'll stick to her strategizing rather than going after the offender immediately. She knows her own abilities, and while they don't lie in fighting, she does know that she can either outwit or outstrategize anyone wishing to harm her... But why should they? If she doesn't make enemies, she doesn't have any, it's that simple. Or specialize, and find a pack to work with. She wouldn't really enjoy having to take care of herself.
That being said, this girl excels in planning, strategizing, and optimizing her resources to the betterment of all those that she needs to worry about. She's very active, always roaming around her territory and checking on those that inhabit the same or neighboring areas... They might not always know that she's watching, but she likes to keep on top of things. It helps to plan if you know what's going on, after all.
When she's not focusing on her work, Vera can sometimes be found tracking and hunting smaller prey, just for a change of pace. Those occasions are rare, though, since she's always practicing, sneaking around or in her corner, trying to imagine different scenarios that her pack may find themselves in... Yeah, her fantasy doesn't really have any trouble in making things up, either.
Speaking of fantasy, Vera is sometimes struck by such ridiculous ideas that they would never come to pass. 'What if two wolves had to hold that cave, which is useless, against an army of crocodiles?' Yeah, that'll never come to pass. But to Vera, it's just one more way of keeping her skills sharp, a practice to keep her wits about her for the future, although it garners her odd looks if she tells others.
