Valeria simply could not help herself. She laughed.
And what an outlandish laugh it was, indeed. It seemed that, in their mangled and crazy bloodlines, history was doomed to repeat itself. The sin of the father was no longer the sin of the son. No, the roles had reversed themselves quite handily. It seemed that the sons of Vorilye and the sons of Goliath were not much different in their behavior, and while the alphess could not find anywhere in her heart to reason with the younger male, she could see the cycle boiling up right before her very eyes. After all, had they not gone through this song and dance once before?
The drama between the Kairos alpha and her eldest brother had brought ruin upon Descai, and now the great female could see the beginning of the flaws in the very ranks of Kairos. A son, acting without his father's permission, and doing as he pleased without order. For a pack so regimented on their heirarchy, the alphess could not feel anything but disappointment on their behalf. Kairos was praised as a place of structure and order, yet the branches of the tree were reaching where the trunk did not desire. It was in that moment that Valeria made her decision.
She would fight the yearling.
While he might have had her in size, she could not, in good conscience, pit her sons and daughter against these venomous traitors, knowing that the true fight laid between herself and the hulking male who was clearly trying to bite off more than he could chew. Was the male so eager to impress Daddy dearest that he would risk such a fools errand to do so? Valyn may not have coddled their young, but they certainly knew that such desperate actions were not a necessity to find favor in the eyes of their mothers. And there en-lied the very fundamental difference between their packs. A home ruled by fear and a home ruled by the love of those around them could never truly coincide. She would have to send the youngling skittering back home to show him, along with what seemed to be a slew of siblings - and some old, scarred, raggedy male that, quite frankly, Valeria could not figure out where exactly he fit into this mess - running back hom to their island.
They were not welcome here. This was Valyn territory, and Valeria would fight to the very end of her wits to protect and maintain the sanctuary she had created for her sisters.
This was war.
"If you want a fight, you will have one," Valeria announced with a half-smirk. "But this one is between you and I. You may not care who gets hurt in your blind greed and twisted cry for attention, but I will not sacrifice the wellbeing of my children and sisters for a pup." She could not help but spit the word out with disgust. This male was no older than her own children, yet he believed himself to be invincible. But one did not conquer lands and create a stronghold in the heart of the most dangerous lands in Anikira without a very important thing: the will to survive.
