The night was now turning into dawn, and the silhouette of a large wolf made its way through the tallest peaks, searching desperately for something. His aqua eyes were looking and trying to explore every crevice, every tree and every movement that may give away the eagle's location. He knew that maybe taking a Moa's Egg would be more impressive, but he knew better than to risk his egg falling from his mouth and rendering the whole Agoge pointless. The stars still sparkled up in the heavens, and for a second, Beleth stopped in his tracks and lifted his head up.
The stars reminded him of the glow worms that sometimes hanged over them in the caverns. Images of his mother, of his siblings and of how simple life used to be began to flash before his eyes, making him make a soft, subtle smile. A frown quickly took over his features, however, when he remembered what he had to do to save Lethe's life. The feeling of blood in his mouth was strange; repulsive, metallic, distasteful... but he had a feeling he would feel that flavor in the future once more. He had to get used to it. He was going to be a warrior, and warriors had to kill in the line of battle.
But... was it... wrong?
He shook his head. His mind hadn't left him alone ever since he had to take that wolf's life. Was this who he was supposed to be? Why did he feel this way? Trying to understand feelings was starting to become tedious, so he began to shut down the voice in his head. And every time he woke up, only a hull of what he was remained in its place. He was no longer Beleth, he had turned into something else. Something that his brothers and sisters may have done without remorse was consuming him alive, and no one knew about it. He understood that it had to be this way. No one would understand.
He admired his brothers and sisters. They all seemed to be rather independent and fierce, except his sister, Pandora. She was the kindest of them all, a lily in the valley of the shadows. He had always felt protective over her, and that same feeling of protectiveness was what made Beleth take away that life in the first place. So maybe he was doing the right thing... protecting the lives of the innocent by taking the life of the guilty. Shaking his head once more and growling at himself, he continued walking. He was going insane--he had no idea what to think, what was right or what was wrong... everything was in shades of gray, intermixed, and nothing made sense anymore.
While walking, he had been so much in his thoughts that he hadn't noticed that the morning had already begun, and that he was in front of a cliff, and in the very edge, he saw numerous twigs and branches that made a giant nest. He lowered himself, walking slowly, trying not to move the rocks and startle anything that might be lurking in the nest. He decided to lay there, perfectly still, and wait to see what was going to happen. He saw a huge bird take off in flight, stretching its bronze wings and leaving the nest, apparently to grab breakfast. Once the beast flew away, Beleth took this chance to dart towards the nest and being extremely careful once in the edge of the cliff.
A few steps closer, he slipped a little bit, sending a couple of rocks hurdling to the ground. His heart was racing, and after finally getting to look at the eggs, he saw a big one that could fit perfectly in his mouth. Grabbing it carefully, he took a few steps backwards and left with his prize. A feeling of wholeness entered his body, making him feel relaxed for a second. It was short-lived, though--a piercing screech was heard coming from behind the pale wolf, making him turn around quickly. The eagle had returned, and was after Beleth with fury in its eyes and death in its enormous talons. He began to run as fast as he could, being careful enough to not break the egg in his mouth.
After zig zagging his way throughout the terrain, the eagle grabbed his rear end and entered its powerful talons on his rump, almost lifting him up in the air, but Beleth's weight was far too heavy for the enormous raptor. Placing the egg carefully on the ground, he turned around and attacked the eagle, and they both engaged in a fight--the bird pecked Beleth's face and dug its talons deeper into his rump, making him bleed. The anger in the pale wolf's eyes suddenly grew, making him grab the eagle by the neck and bite it repeatedly until the bird stopped flapping. He dropped its carcass on the ground, grabbed the egg, and continued his way back home.
The wounds in his back were hurting, but he really wanted to get this over with and go home. Hours went by, and he finally reached the shore--lifting his head, he could see the silhouette of Ina'mos in the near distance. He placed the egg on the sand, and sat down for a second to rest. He had to prepare himself for the hardest part of the Agoge, and he was exhausted. He had no idea how many months had passed since he got here, but he was now mentally drained and he wanted to sleep his way out of all this pain. He sat quietly, resting, until he gathered enough energy to carry on. He grabbed the egg with his mouth and secured it in place, and started to walk towards the crystalline waters.
The cold feeling made him tremble, after being exposed in hot weather for so long. He carried on, and after a while, he was swimming, keeping his head above the waters. The wounds he had were stinging, making him wince in pain... There were moments that he wanted to let go of the egg to breathe better, but he decided to take it slow because everything then would be ruined. Moving his legs in a synchronized matter, he was already more than halfway there after some time. He was tired, exhausted, but he was about to make his family proud.
After what seemed an eternity, the pale wolf found himself near the Atoll. He reached the coral reef and stepped up on it, making the journey a little bit easier. Walking on top of the reef barrier he still carried the egg safely, trying to ignore the excess salivation he was having from having his mouth open for so long. Every step took him closer to the shore, and once he exited the Atoll, he swam a few feet until he finally touched the sand. Placing the egg on the ground, he howled and collapsed on the ground next to the egg, falling asleep quickly in a blissful victory.
OOC: Beleth finally finished the Agoge! I don't mind who opens his egg up. ^^ Sabaoth , @zenith, Thor ?? Anyone??/ LOL
