History:
Sometimes, wolves that you wouldn't expect to find somewhere, manage to end up there all the same, and thrive. This is what happened to Yin's birth pack, a small band of wolves on the coast of Africa. Yin and her brother were born to parents who, while not in love, were stably mated and worked well together to raise their offspring. In their small pack, births were uncommon enough to make the appearance of the siblings a cause for celebration, and the twins were welcomed as harbingers of a change. The pack hoped that these two newborns meant that the pack would finally make a turn for the better.
The siblings' closeness went unnoticed, or at least, unremarked upon, for the beginning of their life. After all, with only each other to play with, and no other pups around, it was only sensible for the two to spend time with one another. However, as time went on and the siblings didn't show any signs of growing apart, the pack's bemusement turned to irritability. The siblings wouldn't separate even to fulfil different jobs within the pack, only growing closer. They could hunt without a word between themselves, convey jokes with a single word or phrase that the rest of the pack couldn't understand. Suspicion of something unnatural started to rise within the pack, whispers of a curse from the Great Wolf. By the time they reached a year of age, the twins were no longer particularly welcome within their pack.
By the time the twins were a year and a half, the very pack they grew up with turned on them viciously. All but one. Their mother was the only one who understood the connection between them as being as simple and innocent as brotherly/sisterly love and nothing more, certainly nothing unnatural. During the uprising, she lost her life trying to protect her children and attempt to calm the angered wolves, buying time for the mismatched siblings to get a slight head start towards the ocean. Yang had thought to try and fight them off on his own, his temper flaring at the loss of their mother and danger to his sister. In her calming way, the way she alone is capable of, Yin pulled her brother out of his blind rage and convinced him to run with her into the cold, salty waters.
Splashing into the waves with death on their heels, the twins swam hard along the shore, each time they attempted to touch land, they were met with violent hatred from the trailing members of their birth pack. Finally, they turned away from the land they knew and out into the unknown, expecting that they would eventually tire out and drown but that was preferable than being torn to shreds by the ones they used to call family.
But the end was not as they had thought. An island appeared on the horizon. Pulling each other along mentally, they cheered each other on with hardly a word passing between them until finally they touched the sandy shores in exhaustion. Pulling his drenched form onto the shore next to his sister, Yang's tiredness did not stop him from wondering what was next for the siblings. They were alone now. Completely alone.
A single howl was heard in the distance, almost like it was speaking directly to the seawater sodden twins. Hearing warmth in its tone, Yang was compelled to follow it, find the one who issued it and perhaps offer loyalty in return for protection if they would accept the twins for what they were - special.
Personality: Without knowing Yin, anyone approaching her thinks of her as being distant and removed from those around her. She doesn't generally approach others to start a conversation unless it's absolutely necessary. But really, that isn't because she disdains those around her, but more because she is really, really introverted. She tends towards reservation just because she finds conversations tiring (Yang excluded, of course. Her brother is the exception to many things).
Once someone actually manage to start an interaction with Yin, they find her to be very careful and deliberate in her speech. She is very aware of feelings, and how her actions and words can affect those around her. She doesn't seem to ever get angry, always remaining calm and taking a step back to consider what is important to her when she must. Her soft voice is soothing to listen to, even if all she is discussing is the status of the hunt or similar.
However, there is always her brother to consider. The two are so rarely apart that they seem to not have their own beings, instead rather two halves of a whole. Yin is the voice of serenity. She keeps Yang's fiery temper in check, even when he would spring to her defense for any reason. The relationship between the two extends past words, and often, even the briefest glimpse shared between them concludes a complete plan, and they rarely speak amongst themselves, not needing to.
Watched in action, Yin is extremely graceful and agile, chasing after whatever she has been pointed to. Don't take her delicate movements and calm speech as an admission of weakness, if she has to, Yin will fight, and she enjoys the hunt and the chase.
