Emerald had failed. Again. She had tried to defend her pack, she really had, but it was useless. Her skin was littered with bruises, mainly from being shoved away by that Kairos beta, but despite that, she advanced out of Hat'moru, into Waryck Jungle, all of the way to the Ridge of Vesirtin, tailing after her gold-and-black Seraphim. Although the grimy-pelted female had not been seriously injured during the recent conquest, she still lagged behind from her pack due to her diminutive size and weakening age. Valyn had been her second chance, but she had failed it.
At the border of Kal'dyne, the yellow-eyed fae stopped. Had she really failed yet?
Valyn was far ahead of her, although Emerald could still spot the pack that she had spent her past year - well, almost year - with, growing ever further. She could probably catch up right now if she ran at top speed; the question was not whether or not she could, but whether or not she would.
Nothing good ever came out of wandering.
The femme knew that.
As Emerald debated what to do, she recalled when she had joined Valyn. Kal'dyne had been beautiful. It still was. Not quite willing to depart, the lost Fury rotated her gaze so that she was eying the jungle that had been her home. The stale feminine scents were now almost completely overpowered by the reek of brutish warriors; it was not even seasoned warriors that had taken Emerald's cherished home. They were underage children, mere children! The oldest of the conquerors - Emerald shuddered for a moment as she thought of the messy attack that she had launched on him, although she could hardly call it an attack - could be no more than half of Emerald's ripe age.
Returning her thoughts back to Waryck Jungle, Emerald contemplated if she was still willing to let herself leave.
My family is in there.
Shaking her head miserably, the battered - more mentally than physically - she-wolf collapsed on the dividing border. Why did she have to make this choice? Should it not be easy to not repeat previous mistakes? It had seemed simple: do not leave home - but what was home? Was it with Valyn or with Kal'dyne? With family or without? An exhausted sob escaped her greying maw as luminous golden eyes looked up to the cloudy heavens. She had never quite been sure about what she believed in, but right now she needed her past to support her, not to mercilessly torment her. The first thing that she remembered her father telling her...
'Your mother's up there, Emerald.'
Heaven. It was Heaven. She needed her loved ones up in Heaven now more than anything as she lay there, not of physical exhaustion but of mental exhaustion, and as Valyn moved further and further away, it became more and more apparent that Emerald had no choice but to stay. She would not wander.
