History: Born to a pair of young alphas on the Northwestern border of the United States of America, Radon lived her life as any young wolf would. She sought the attention and praise of her pack members, the eyes of the young males on her home turf, and the full belly her family was able to provide regularly all year long. Her puppy years were more than ideal, and her first year of life proved her worth assisting in all essential pack duties. By the second spring of her life, she grew tired of it all.
With young parents serving as alphas, there was no option for her to fill a real role of leadership in her home pack herself. It wasn't necessarily the desire to be an alpha that led her away from her home, but rather, the freedom to have that option of leadership should it ever come her way. At two years of age the young female struck out like so many before her to seek out a new pack in a new region where she could find a mate and move up the ranks. This led her to a new valley quite a way from her old home, where she met another pack.
She was welcomed into this new family group and wore the badge of a subordinate rank for her first year among them. She grew to admire her new family; a powerful alpha male, a huntress who quickly became her best friend, and a wonderful array of faces who filled various roles in pack. She adopted their customs, as they believed in many gods and would often spend their evenings singing and dancing and praising the gods for all things good and bad that happened in their lives. Shortly after her third spring, she and another dark brown male her age were titled as the pack's new patrollers. They were entrusted with seeking out and addressing unfamiliar wolves within their borders and it was on these patrolling rounds that she developed an interest in this other male.
Another year of diligent servitude and undying loyalty to her alpha eventually earned her the promotion of pack beta. She was honored with the title and wore it proudly. She was nothing but devoted to her family, and went on to do everything the perfect beta wolf would do for those she loved. She fought valiantly against encroaching neighbors, saw off any threats, hunted alongside the white female wolf who had been her best companion since the day she'd joined the pack, learned about herbs and medicines from her alpha who had a history as a healer, everything. All was well until a tragedy befell the pack when the alpha took a mate and she was murdered shortly after bearing pups. The pups were taken by those that slew their mother, and the pack was left with a heartbroken alpha. Morale was low for the longest time.
Shortly into her fifth year of life, the alpha approached Radon with a question she had never expected. With the loss of his own mate, he feared he was too emotionally unstable to support the pack alone any longer. He offered her the position of alphess, not as his mate, but as a great friend who had served the pack so well for so long. She readily accepted the title and filled the role as dutifully as any alphess before her. She had finally done it. She was given the greatest honor over her family, not by luck, happenstance or her breeding, but by earning it. She became the respected and beloved alphess of her pack.
By winter, she approached the alpha with a question of her own. She was closing in on her sixth year of life and, having achieved such an honorable title, decided that she desired only one more thing from her life. Three years later, she still had eyes for a male her age that she'd once patrolled the pack's borders with. He had courted her so many times, and desired her throughout their time together, but she had always had the habit of putting her role in the pack above his attention. Now, it was time. She asked permission from her alpha to produce a litter with the patroller male, and he granted her the right with best wishes. Finally, she was to achieve to her last and perhaps greatest goal of all. She grew round with a belly full of pups and in a time of pure joy, happiness and celebration of the culmination of everything that had turned out so perfectly in her life, tragedy befell the pack once more. This time, it would never fully recover.
One afternoon, the alpha returned to the pack from beyond the borders bloodied and beaten. He brought with him painful news that tore the alphess' heart to pieces. Her mate, the patroller she had quietly loved for so many years and who's pups she was now carrying, had exposed himself as a traitor to the pack. He had been responsible, along with several rogue wolves, for the murder of the alpha's mate, the stealing and murder of his pups, and finally the attempted murder of the alpha himself. The alpha told them a story of his life before he founded their pack, back when he was young himself. He had made some enemies back then and the demons had finally caught up to him. Radon's mate had been a member of the alpha's old pack himself, but he was never suspected of such treachery as infiltrating the new pack and providing vital information to others outside the pack who desired to ruin the alpha's life and kill him.
His story was one full of pain and horror, and he concluded by telling his family that he had killed his pursuers, including Radon's mate, and finished the issue once and for all. She was full of agony and hatred, but not towards her alpha. It was directed only towards herself. How could she have been so blind not to see it? To see the real evil in the wolf she had called her mate? Her alpha did all he could to comfort her, and told her that she alone was possibly the reason he was still alive. He was convinced the patroller hadn't planned to fall truly in love when he infiltrated the pack and his love for Radon had been what delayed the rogues for so long. But his comforts were of little use. Her heart was already too weak to care.
Spring arrived and her pups were born without their father to see them. Four sons and a daughter were a blessing to her nonetheless, and their arrival brought new hope to the pack. But survival was growing difficult. She had experienced years of lesser prey in her time, but never a year as brutal as this. A harsh winter had decimated the local deer population and famine worked it's way through the pack. What should have been a time to celebrate new life turned into burials and sorrow. Almost half of the pack had already starved to death when the alpha announced he would be leaving them. His pups had been taken from him two years before, but he never had proof they were truly dead and seeing Radon's pups rekindled a need in him to seek out his own offspring. He left Radon to lead alone. Five hungry mouths, a starving pack that grew weaker by the day, and a heart that was still raw with pain plagued her mind. She was in no state to lead but for the sake of her family, something had to be done.
With hair falling out from poor nutrition and her skin clinging tightly to her ribs for all to see, Radon went beyond the packlands to seek out a new source of food. It was beyond the safety of her home that her life changed once more for the worse. She had found a deer shank left unattended in a dense forest and the gurgling pain in her gut forced her to it, despite her knowing it seemed too good to be true. As she approached the meat, the earth gave way and she was suddenly trapped in a pit. Two-legged beasts approached the pit, poked her with something sharp, and then all went dark. For the next several months, Radon fell in and out of consciousness as she was passed around and placed in several different enclosures by the two-legged manbeasts. She no longer knew where she was or what was happening, she knew not of her pack and her pups fates, and for a short while the stress of it all made her start to forget who she even was. The only benefit to being locked in a human pen was that she was fed well and her physical form returned to it's healthy state.
She had no understanding of the studies humans were doing on her, their intentions to put her on exhibit for other humans to see, or even the newer crazy manbeasts who locked her in another smaller cage under the guise of rescuing her from a probable life of animal testing and experimentation. The last two humans to shove her in a cage were the last two she ever saw. Against her knowledge, they took her from her original captors and brought her to a foreign place before opening the door to the cage and backing away. It took her several moments to understand that she was being released and upon realization, she darted madly from the confines of the carrier that held her. She ran faster and harder than she ever had before in her life, towards the scent of wolves. She needed to find her pack. Sadly, being dumped at a remote island off the coast of Africa wasn't going to help-- her family was on the opposite side of the globe.
Personality: In her youth, Radon was a friendly, competitive, goal-orientated individual with a desire to please others. Her loyalty knew no bounds and once she was committed to something, she would do anything in her power to achieve her goal. Despite a generally outgoing nature among others, Radon has always been a bit of a pessimist with a short temper that she inherited from her father. As she matured, all of these traits continued to grow with her. Within her pack, she is an excellent companion who enjoys meeting and socializing with others. To outsiders, she appears as a stern face with an unfaltering ego. It's worth noting that her gentle touch is reserved only for those in her pack, and she is quite weary of those who she doesn't consider family. However, it doesn't usually take long for her to warm up to others if they express interest in joining her family or forming an alliance of some sort.
With age, she has become a jack-of-all-trades with experience in everything from hunting to story-telling, nursing pups to healing injuries, even facing down bears and leading war parties. This great variety of skills lends to her characteristic of being a natural born leader, and she does well in positions of high authority or guidance. Recent events in her life have caused her great emotional distress and though she is still as powerful as she once was, mentally and physically, she is now prone to minor mental breakdowns. She keeps most of these to herself, but others shouldn't be surprised if they notice her talking to or arguing with herself, or acting unusual in an otherwise normal situation. Since the birth of her pups, she has taken on the role of acting as a motherly figure to those who are young or in need of her medicinal skills. Her previous pack had strong beliefs in gods and spirits and this belief will always be a part of her. She loves a good ritualistic dance or song and she encourages others to have such beliefs.
