Changes have become too severe in Anikira, and the wolves have been temporarily relocated to the Anikiran Southern Isles. Things have grown dire and unlivable on the mainland; it was time for outside intervention. Please be sure to review the full update on the staff board for more information!
The current season is fall in the Southern Isles. Due to their proximity to the equator, the region is still warm. There is currently no breeding and no birthing amongst the wolves
Things having taken a turn from teasing to compliements now coming his way, Malachi still had not found his comfort zone restored. But he remained silent as they continued to converse with each other, he had nothing to contribute so just sat back and tried to swallow the discomfort from recent events between these two. But it was nice they seemed to be getting along.
After all pack life was really not his area of expertise, but he was glad to hear that she was promoted and that mouth twisted up along the edges in a small smile of pride in her advancement. "That is wonderful news." He praised gently but his eyes were lit up more than usual. She went from stressed out to being an advisor to the leader herself.
Then a compliment was thrown his way, but he didn't argue. He was calm in general and the fact it actually served someone else in a positive way was refreshing. Who knew being stoic actually had a silver lining?
"Well I am colored as a rock so perhaps that's something." The time was so dry, he wasn't sure his attempt at humor would even be caught. It was odd to try and lighten up but the effort was sincere.
Then the talk took a more serious turn when Gailleann asked about her sisters search and he felt even more awkward at trying to be humorous. Perhaps he should have kept his mouth shut. But he was interested to know what the answer would be. Was there any amount of freedom? If he were to join a pack eventually he would like to not be strictly tied down.
Join a pack? What was he thinking? That basically went against every thing he tried to do with his life. Avoid others, stay uninvolved. Packs were all about unity and close bonds, the thought made him uneasy. Yet if there were the right circumstances, he may reconsider.
It was nice to see this other side of Gailleann. While Saphira appreciated humor and playful banter as much as the next, she also appreciated the ability to be serious when the situation called for it. And she was glad to have her opinions confirmed. It always felt good to not be the only person with an opinion. It made her feel less weird and out-there. She did not mind feeling out-there sometimes, of course, but other times she just wanted to be a normal wolf with a normal life.
Saphira smiled back and looked at Malachi as she answered Gailleann. “Oh, I’m sure he’s fine. I’m pretty sure I’ve teased him before.” She shot a smile at Malachi, hoping he was taking everything alright. It was endearing to her how silent he was in contrast to the two outgoing faes, and she knew he was likely just as uncomfortable with the change in topic as the previous topic. She looked away as he congratulated her and smiled at her feet, surprised and simultaneously delighted when he made a joke regarding his similarity to a rock. She looked up and tried to catch his eyes, smiling at his humor. Had it been the first time he had made a joke around her? Very possibly. Saphira was happy to see he was loosening up.
Gailleann’s request to stay took Saphira a bit by surprise, but tail immediately began wagging again and she let out a quiet yip in excitement. “I’m sure that would be fine? You would need to check with Valeria, of course, but I could take you to her? If you don’t mind, of course.” She spoke at twice her speed, which was saying something for the already normally very energetic she-wolf. “I would think you would want to stick around for a while to become acquainted with the territory and pack members, but I wouldn’t see why you couldn’t continue searching? I mean, don’t trespass on the lands of others packs, of course. Wouldn’t want to start any problems. But it would be so fun if you would stay!” For a while, in her excitement, she forgot to wonder or ask what Malachi thought of it.

Leann would chuckle at Mal's comment. "That is true, brother. Still, you are much more appealing then a mere rock." The delight in her eyes at his attempt shown through. When they had first crossed paths he would never have even considered an attempt at a joke, yet here he was now. She attributed it so Saphira's influence, just one more reason to be thankful for such a lady in Malachi's life, and now her own.
Soon after Gailleann inquired about the possibility of continuing her search for her sister while still becoming a member of Valyn. The excitement Saphira showed at the possibility of her remaining and joining her pack only added another layer to the situation, a layer that drew Leann more to the idea of remaining. Saphira seemed to really like the idea, if the others of this pack were as welcoming then maybe Gailleann had finally found a place where she could really belong. Only a single pang of heartache swelled within her breast. Had her sister been present things would have been perfect.
Well almost perfect, before she answered the white sun touched fae, the storm of her gaze shifted to Malachi. "Mal...what do you think, should I join? I know you don't like packs, but maybe, if Saphira and I were here, you would consider staying with us, also?" Leann was well aware of his aversion to large groups, and what it took to be part of a pack. But perhaps, with her and Saphira at his side, he would at least consider it.
For a moment she continued to watch him, though not willing to pressure him into a decision her gaze shifted back towards her new friend. It was enough for Leann to have made sure the seed was planted, she knew Mal would give the question serious thought whatever his decision may be. That was the type of wolf he was, strategy and thorough thought before taking action. He was not a creature of impulse like she was. So she would speak to Saphira to divert attention from Malachi. "I would love to meet your alphess!! And yes you are right, I wouldn't continue my search for a while since I would need to meet and get to know the pack members." The excitement entered her voice at the prospect, she was truly looking forward to this sudden change of paths her life might be taking. A home...a place to belong...It would be a first in her meager existence.
The fact that both of them had caught and seemed to even slightly appreciate it gave the stormy male a slight lift of confidence that he could perhaps do it again if the time felt right. But lets not get ahead of ourselves. He chided himself silently, there were more serious things that needed attention.
But that was pushed aside as he watched the sparkling female began a race against her own tongue at the prospect of having a new pack member. She just loved life. He was rather envious of her at times, he couldn't see himself ever be so giddy. But it was lovely to just watch her magically envelop herself with such joy.
He was content to let the two of them figure it out but Gailleann roped him in once more with questions of his approval, maybe even joining himself one day. That second question caused him to hesitate but it wasn't long before he simply chose to answer her first question before embarking on that. "Valyn is a strong noble pack from what Saphira has told me. I believe you could be quite happy here as well as perhaps gaining a few extra eyes and ears to search for your sister." He tried to look only on the positive and not allow his personal woes cloud the situation. Gailleann could very well melt into these ranks with ease and find a home here.
"As for joining myself..." He looked at Saphira. He couldn't join until he knew he could control himself if he was to be around her all the time. What would she want with a grumpy orphan? Yes they were friends but he needed to keep himself in check so as to not jeopardize their relationship. "I have a few matters to attend to before I would even consider it." That gaze locked with hers and a spark of sadness flickered in those eyes somewhere deep within the grey-ish blue orbs. By the time this was over, she may very well despise him.
That is true, brother. Still, you are much more appealing then a mere rock.
The white wolf smiled at her comment, but realized, seemingly for the first time, how true that was. She looked at Malachi in a way she never had before, but tried to force herself to look away, not wanting to be caught gawking. Whenever she could, though, she glanced at him, trying to find the balance between making her glances so frequent it was obvious and completely avoiding looking at him, which would be just as obvious.
Gailleann asked Malachi first about joining the pack. Saphira had to say she was slightly surprised, not really yet having a complete grasp on the extent of their relationship. But she did suppose that if she had an adopted brother who happened to be around at the time, she would ask him his opinion first, as well. Not that Saphira was pressuring Gailleann for an immediate response. The seed of a home, family, pack, and territory had been planted. Now it was up to Gailleann to decide for herself.
I know you don't like packs, but maybe, if Saphira and I were here, you would consider staying with us, also?
“Yes, would you?” she asked, her wide eyes staring into his. It was something she had wondered for a long time. And now seemed like a decent enough time to ask, Gailleann having brought it up first. Saphira could not lie and say she had never wondered if he might eventually settle down and where and with whom that would be.
Valyn is a strong noble pack from what Saphira has told me.
Saphira could feel herself becoming excited and hopeful as to what his answer would be. It almost sounded like he was getting ready to say he would consider it! But she tried to keep herself calm, wanting to brace herself in case of disappointment. She felt like their whole friendship would be much easier if he were a member of Valyn. It felt odd to her constantly leaving pack territory to meet up with him, and.. if he did ever want to be more than friends… that would be complicated otherwise.
As for joining myself...I have a few matters to attend to before I would even consider it.
Saphira knew he was looking at her and wondered what he was thinking. Maybe the next time they had a moment to themselves, she could ask him. But for now, she tried to stop her emotions from falling as fast as they were by reasoning with herself. He had not directly said no. That was something, right?
But the conversation steered back over to Gailleann as she expressed her willingness to stick around and meet with Valeria. Saphira felt the same amount of excitement she frequently carried around with her return at the prospect of Gailleann joining Valyn. Their numbers certainly had been growing lately! It was astonishing to Saphira, having grown up in an almost dying pack for so long, but she loved it.
“That’s great!” Saphira barked. “I could take you to her right now, if you wanted?” She was practically dancing, her paws not standing still and her tail wagging as she expectantly awaited an answer.
Eyes of stormy gray shifted from Malachi to Saphira and then back. Her voice when she spoke was soft. "But you will consider it Mal, when you are able? Please? There was an anxious note to the fire wolf's voice. An anxiety that was born from loosing the only family she had. Unable to keep track of Mals whereabouts, if he was safe, if he was hurt, caused her inner turmoil unlike any she'd ever experienced before. She knew it was because her sister was missing, and the panic that was always bubbling within her at the mere thought of not being able to find her had effected her more deeply then she wished to admit. She wasn't even sure if Mal truly understood the depths of her need to keep her family safe. Probably not, but that was to be expected all things considered.
When she told Saphira she would like to meet with the alphess the excitement flooding through the snowy female was visible. The words that followed only backed up the visible signs. "I have something I must do first, as this is an unexpected turn of events for me. Will you be able to meet me in two days time? That will give you time to speak with your alphess, and me time to settle into the idea of a home."
It was true that the idea of a true home was a completely unknown concept, that aside residing in a pack gave one duties. Some daily, others not so much, but it wouldn't be unsightly to vanish for days, even weeks on end while hunting for her sister. Responsibility was something the red female took seriously. Would Valyn's leader be willing to accept that Gailleann had to find her sister? That it was a quest she could never give up until she had accomplished it? Would she still be willing to have the flame touched female within her pack knowing this? Finding the courage to open herself to a home with the chance of rejection took the lady like fae time to muster up. Would Saphira understand that? Would Malachi?
With an unending patience Leann would wait for Saphira's reply before offering the pair a gentle smile. Pressing to her paws she stepped closer to Mal playfully tugging at his ear. "Until next time my Brother" Twisting her lithe frame about she paused beside Saphira to touch her cheek to the other in a hug like gesture. "I will come to this place in two days and call for you, I hope you will be able to answer." She spoke with a grin before turning to trot off, her mind a whirlwind of thoughts, dreams, and hopes.
Malachi, Saphira Notes: There we can end it here or you two can continue lol

Maintaining a stoic expression was nearly impossible with the giddiness of excited females, both of which he cared for, erupting around him. Gailleann seemed to want more than a vague response but he was rather expectant of that now. "If the matters I have to see to go a certain way, I'll consider it. But they are out of my control. Yet if I stay outside of these ranks my whole life, I'll still come visit you both." Provided Saphira would even wish to see him afterwards. He knew Gaillleann would stay on friendly terms with him unless he did something truly awful perhaps.
Saphira was so sweet and kind but still being the object of desire from someone she wouldn't consider a suitable mate would surely have an effect on their friendship. It may be easier to just not see her...The thought of that felt like a stabbing pain but his face remained calm. Should he tell her? Should he stay quiet and just go on being friends?
Staying in the background once more as the two girls figured out what would happen next, he was surprised to hear Gailleann decline an immediate meeting with Valeria. But if it was to take some time for herself then he understood. Other than that he wondered what was going on in her head. But she perked up and tugged his ear as was becoming her custom and hugged Saphira in a delicate manner. "Stay safe. Remember your training." He said, yes he felt protective of her but wouldn't follow her around like a shadow. She proved a capable student and could take care of herself.
Looking back at the pretty gold splashed girl, he bowed his head respectfully. "Thank you for taking the time to meet with us. It was very kind of you." Stormy gaze locked onto her face, he wonder when the next time would be he would see her, if he could hold himself together again to keep his secret. If she hadn't figured it out already with Gailleann's teasing.

Loner, 1 1/2 Years old, Saphira's sweetheart, adopted brother to Gailleann
Saphira could hear the desperation in Gailleann’s voice as she all but begged Malachi to consider joining with her, and her own reaction confused her. Half of her immediately felt sympathy and protectiveness for the small, red wolf she had just barely begun to befriend. She wished she could help ease the pain she felt. But then on the other hand, she felt a twinge of jealousy welling up within her at the fact that the wolf she was desperate to keep by her side was Malachi.
You do not own him, Saphira chided herself. It was perfectly fine for him to have whatever friends he wanted and keep whatever company suited him. Not only did she have no claim over him, but they were not even from the same pack. She could not expect that he would not cultivate other relationships. But the fact that his adopted sister was joining Valyn would give him more reason to stick around this pack, and that thought made her smile internally. Yes, she would be happy with Gailleann’s presence and look on the bright side, as always. Besides, Gailleann seemed to have the courage to be open with her desires and ask for what she wanted, unlike Saphira, but the white wolf could not pretend that this was not what she wanted, as well. This arrangement could work out nicely for her.
Malachi’s promise to visit sent Saphira’s tail wagging again and she sincerely responded, “Good,” with a smile on her face, hoping she was conveying how much she appreciated his company without being too obvious. Though why she was attempting to hide the obvious, Saphira did not know. It seemed Gailleann had caught on quickly enough.
I have something I must do first, as this is an unexpected turn of events for me. Will you be able to meet me in two days time? That will give you time to speak with your alphess, and me time to settle into the idea of a home.
Saphira’s eyes widened. This could truly happen. “Of course! Take your time. I will speak with Valeria.” The she-wolf was all smiles as she turned to Malachi to see his reaction again. Was it difficult for him to see possibly his only other friend join a pack and leave him a lonely loner again?
“I hope you find what you are looking for, and I look forward to seeing you in two days, then!” Saphira spoke after Gailleann as she left. Saphira could not truthfully say she was not somewhat excited at the prospect of having a bit of time alone with Malachi, now, but she found she could not think of a thing to say. All she knew was that she did not want him to leave. But his words made it obvious he was headed off yet again.
After a long pause in which Saphira came to terms with his leaving again and Malachi spoke his thanks, she spoke up, “You’ll visit soon?” But she was not sure if he heard her as he walked away, and she shrugged and turned away herself. She had two days to speak to Valeria and convince her to come meet Gailleann to make a decision about accepting another member. Saphira could not see Valeria saying no, but it was still not her decision to make. She would be ready with Valeria in two days, however.

The life of a loner wasn't a glamorous one but it was all he knew. The offer to join with Gailleann was tempting as it was intimidating. He remembered only too well the panic attack that happened when he first stepped into this land, what would happen if he tried to stay here permanently? Would he be reduced to a pathetic ball of fur instead of the proud fighter he presented himself as?
But he promised to consider it and if things turned out well, although he wasn't one for optimism. That was ripped form him early on.
The slightest glimmer of hope sparked within him when Saphira asked if he would visit again. But he wouldn't look into it too much, after all they were friends it only made sense she would be kind like that. "I shall return shortly, yes." he promised and then just looked at her for a short while like it would actually be a long time before he saw her face again. Memorizing her features although he already knew it as well as his own. This may very well be the last time she would want him around should his secret come to light during their next encounter.
Walking out of the pack lands was difficult as well as a relief. The open air was were he felt free and unburdened, no walls to crush in on him. But he would face the suffocating restriction soon, to see if Gailleann had in fact accepted the pack as her own and maybe see Saphira once again. Hopefully.
A silver form walked alone, same as always. Powerful and stoic, Malachi disappeared to his own devices. To plan, decide and struggle with what he should do next. So much hanging in the balance. On one hand it felt good to have so much to lose but desperation led him to want to cling to what he did have. Was life always so complicated?

This untraditional coupling is one of the truly loving matches in Anikira. Although they are members of two different species, Calantha and Rikez have overcome the differences and rose above, finding love in the most pure of ways. And from this pairing, a litter born of two loving parents was conceived. These little boys and girls will have the great honor of being raised by two parents that support each other, while many of the offspring in Anikira have not had such a benefit. The pair are truly fitting of one another; both kind-hearted and generally good individuals.
