History:
Keane was born in a six pup litter - two of which were stillborn - to a handsome white brute and a golden-brown female in a world named Anikira. Keane was the largest of all, much bigger at birth than her four remaining pack-brothers. Her mother had named her Keane, and her brothers Tono, Shino, Antar and Lucis. The two stillborn females were named too, as was the custom; Imir and Amir. They were laid to rest quietly on the crest of the hill her parents set their home at, and the dead pups' scent covered in case they attracted other Hunters. No more pups needed to die.
Keane had seen - or rather, smelt - these stillborn pups, as had her brothers, and so had experienced death in the earliest times of her life. She remembered the scent; warm and rich, the scent of Mother, but with a hint of something else. It was that something that made her scared and her heart stirred. This tiny heart filled with a strange feeling - anger. Keane wanted to get rid of that strange smell that was clinging to her pack-sisters like a pup to a teat. She wanted them to play with her, but Mother told her that her sisters were too tired and their souls were dreaming.
In her pup year, Keane developed a sense of playfulness. She often toyed with her brothers and being the largest of them all, she was stronger. Pin-the-brother soon became her favourite game and she became the most mischevious of the bunch. The pack had been extended; two older pack-sisters helped Mother and Father raise their newest litter. Keane believed them to be Imir and Amir, and so the dead pups' names became the older sisters' nicknames. Mother watched them play and a wave of grief overcame her, and Father soon followed.
Keane and her brothers were fast approaching their first year of living, and so Father and Mother and the two older pack-sisters began to take them out to hunt. Hunting was like an all-new game for Keane and to call her frustrating was an understatement. The young female would always leap too soon and get kicked, snap at the wrong prey, all manner of problems that could jeopardise a hunt. However, Father was a good hunter and Mother knew his mind, and they all managed to rein in a troubled hunt together. Keane realised the most important things about a hunt; never break from your pack; always keep your state of mind; and always honour the prey.
Around this time, the pack began to move around more. As she and her brothers aged, Keane began to open her mind about the world and through their journeys from site to site she learned many new things. Keane saw less of her sisters, as they were nearing almost two and a half, and were leaving to have their own packs. Keane was upset and wanted them to stay, but she understood, deep down. She knew that wolves must be with pack, but must also learn to be with oneself. She swore that she would learn what Mother, Father and her sisters had learned to do.
Keane had wandered off with Shino, the oldest and biggest of her brothers, on a dry day. They had been playing in the birch forests they lived near and chased after a small rabbit. Keane was reluctant to wander far, but the thrill of the hunt had caught up with her again and she immersed herself within it. After the siblings had killed the rabbit, Keane gave her thanks quickly and picked up the carcass, excited to show Mother and Father that she was of pack, but also independent and strong enough to take down her own prey. After returning to the rendevous site they had marked a few days ago, Shino began to snarl at the undergrowth. Then a certain smell hit Keane's nostrils - it was that stale, cold smell from her birth, the smell that had cleverly hidden itself behind the warm smell of pups and happiness.
Taking careful steps, Keane and Shino approached the bushes. And there lay the cold bodies of Mother, Tono and Antar. Lucis lay next to Father, who was crouched over the bodies, his eyes dark with anger and confusion. Shino, Keane and Father padded quietly towards each other, holding their heads low in grief. The day passed quickly, but painfully, and the nights were filled with sadness and loud, crackling barks.
Keane awoke from her slumber suddenly. There were the barks again, louder and closer. They sounded very angry, harsh and commanding as if Mother were scolding her for bullying her brothers. No, she thought. Mother is not harsh. That was when a bark came flying, a small, cold claw-that-flies. Father and Shino had awoken as she had, and the claw hit Shino in his side.
Before Keane could react, another came whizzing past ith a whistling noise. It sunk into her front leg, the one that was stained with rabbit blood still when she'd been too melancholy to clean it. Keane cried and ran, bolting away from the horrible barking and claws-that-fly. Her leg was almost shattered but she was too scared to stop - she ran until she could no longer stay awake, and that was the last she saw of her pack. The female wandered aimlessly, her leg aching and sometimes so painful that she slept without sleeping. She hadn't taken the time to let it heal, and so it healed slowly and painfully, leaving behind a mangled mess of scars and strangely shaped bone. It hurt when she ran too far for too long, but she didn't care. Keane had had a sudden realisation - she hadn't learnt how to be brave.
Personality: Keane is a very caring wolf - almost overprotective. She admires those who hold honour for their family and their pack, and scorns those who do not. Keane hates to see anyone hurt, no matter whether they have hurt others. She always tries to keep suffering to a minimum in memory of her own suffering; however, she will not go so far as to kill those who have a lesser quality of life.
Being a playful wolf, Keane loves to hunt and play games. Not many can match Keane for enthusiasm in a hunt, but her techniques are not refined. Keane is mischevious and plays tricks on those gullible enough to cooperate in her plans, though her jokes and playfulness never go too far. She keeps herself restrained for fear of hurting someone.
Keane hates to see anyone upset. In times of trouble and sadness, Keane shines through, offering a shoulder to cry on to anyone who needs it; but with offering her help and consolation comes an emotional price. Keane upsets herself more than others upset her - she is thick-skinned and hard-headed, but too much reminiscing is harmful to her emotional state.
Keane is focused and hard-working. She honours not just her pack and family but the land on which they walk and the prey on which they feed. In times of trouble, she may not be the best person to turn to, but she helps in any way she can. With high spirits and a playful disposition, Keane is a strangely valuable, manipulative pawn in a deadly game of chess.
