To say that life was difficult for the black and white male, would be an extreme understatement. Already, he had dealt with being deaf for a year but still, things were no easier than they were when he first lost his hearing. He had become jumpy, defensive, and apprehensive, a completely opposite personality from what he had when he was a young wolf. His other senses, sight, touch, and scent, had become much stronger since the incident but still, hunting was more difficult for him than it used to be. Even though he could pick up on the faintest of scents and catch the smallest of movements the fact he could not hear his footsteps and had no idea how loudly he was walking made the other facts pointless. More often than not, prey would hear him coming long before he got to them and were long gone before he could get to him. He had lost weight in the past year and often went hungry but it was for that reason that he knew he had to join a pack. He couldn’t keep living life on his own.
As he walked, he kept his eyes sweeping from side to side, always on the lookout for predators and prey alike. Every now and then, he would look over his shoulder hesitantly, making sure nothing was coming up behind him. He couldn’t help but wonder if a pack would even accept him or if his efforts were in vein. Before the incident, he had no doubt he could have joined a pack with ease. But now, with such a setback, he had no idea what he could offer a pack or if he would even be looked out as an equal or just a burden.
But, before he could ponder those thoughts too long, he crossed into the territory of a pack, his steps slowing to a cautious walk. The air this pack gave off seemed to be relaxed and not threatening which helped to calm his nerves some. Spotting a series of rolling hills in the distance, he decided he would walk to the top of one of them before calling for the alpha. After a few minutes of walking, he had finally made his way to the top and he sat down, looking around. Still not seeing any of the members, he threw his head back in an attempt to howl and alert the pack of his presence. Though his call was not as loud as he thought it was, the height from sitting atop the hill would allow it to travel at least a few miles.
