He’d been away for too long, but with every fiber of his being, he couldn't bring himself to return to the land he called home.
Isaiah suffered alone in the dunes of Vor’asa, watching from afar as the youth of Kairos caught eggs and swam back to shore. All he knew was that his brother had gone, his young son taking over the pack, and his heart broke. While he had tried to come to terms with the situation, there was no feasible reason he could understand to tear their family apart once again, and so he spent his time alone hunting feebly and meditating. The once massive brute had lost considerable weight, his lean muscle the only thing left hanging on his frame. His once flush, energetic face fell gaunt and heavy.
He only returned to Ina’mos because he feared that if he got any weaker, he wouldn’t be able to make the swim. As Isaiah walked through his pack territory searching for Sabaoth, knowing he owed his brother an explanation and an apology, he tried to ignore the stares of his packmates. His wet fur clung to his meager frame, and for the first time in his entire life, the cocky behemoth felt ugly.
As he passed near the falls, a figure caught his eye. A white female, form as angelic as if it had been created in the image of sea foam. Her fur sparkled almost translucently, and as she turned her head, he noticed the reddish-brown marking that spread from under her eyes and touched together like two delicate trees reaching out for comfort. Her neon eyes shone like the ocean, tropical fish swimming through her iris and catching the light with iridescent scales. For a moment, Isaiah thought he was dreaming. As the caramel male took one step closer, his head cocked in childlike wonder, his eyes widened and then clamped shut completely, ears flattening against his skull.
Neviah had come for him.
An audible whine escaped his lips as he half-trotted, half-limped towards her. He curled his head around her and into her fur frantically and without a word, tears dripping from eyes and rolling across her fur. He didn’t know if he was happy or sad, whether he was weak or strong, and whether she objected or not. But the male breathed in her scent with open nostrils and wept.
Isaiah didn't know how long she’d been here. He didn’t know why she’d come here, or if she planned to stay. All he knew was that right now, and from this moment forward, she was all that he needed.
