History: Shiro was raised in solitude. She was born to two parents in the small part of Alberta, Canada that the Northern Rocky Mountain range runs through, close to a city called Lethbridge. Her parents had been traveling north through the range when her mother went into labor. Their pack had gotten ahead of them due to her mother's slow pace, and they lagged behind. They planned to meet back up with the pack when the pups were old enough, however, as soon as labor struck, it was obvious that something was wrong. Instead of steady contractions that slowly worsened, it began with terrible contractions that stopped the mother dead in her tracks. By the fifth contraction, she collapsed. The labor was much shorter and more severe than it should have been. She birthed three stillborn pups, two of which hadn't even fully developed, and one other that was very developed, and very much alive. She was named Shiro, meaning "fourth son", because her parents though she was male, due to her size and the nature of the labor. It had made the father very distracted from the pups altogether, and he didn't pay attention when naming the gender. The mother named her quietly, and then lay shuddering for many days. Shiro grew quickly, opening her eyes for the first time at only nine days old. Her father brought his mate food often and at first, she ate. But after the first week, she slowly stopped until she had altogether stopped by the time Shiro had opened her eyes. The labor had affected her body horribly, and she had seizures multiple times a day, sometimes going all day and all night without being able to stop the horrid shaking. By the time Shiro was two weeks old, her mother had passed away. Her father tried to wean her early, but Shiro was wholly uninterested in the regurgitated meat that he tried to provide her. After a couple of days, her father abandoned her, and began to search for his pack. If she wouldn't eat, she would die soon too, and he didn't want to witness it. Shiro had already began to move around sluggishly, and in an attempt to follow her father, she left her mother, but in the wrong direction. Instead of heading north, she began to move east.
She only made it so far before she collapsed in exhaustion. She hadn't eaten in two days, and the exercise had taken her remaining strength. She was found by a child who had wandered from the nearby city. She was barely breathing, and had no energy to fight, but still the child took her home, hoping to save her. The child tried to hide the pup, afraid that his mother would take it away, and he was right, for his mother found the pup when he was at school. She recognized immediately that it was a Northern Rocky Mountain, recently taken off the Endangered Species List. She disagreed with the notion, however, because she was apart of the group called "Northern Rocky Mountain Recovery Plan", and she didn't think their numbers were high enough. She knew that the condition of Shiro was severe, and immediately took her to a facility to nurse her back to health. The three days of malnutrition had stunted Shiro's growth slightly, but she quickly recovered physically. However, the last day of Shiro's tribulation had taken a negative effect on her psyche. She had begun to hallucinate her father returning to her, but every time he came back, he was smaller and smaller. By the time she had reached the bright white facility, a small pup was approaching her. He was much older than she, but he looked exactly like her father in appearance, with the weird darker brown facial marking. For her father had been one of the very few Northern Rocky Mountain Wolves that had darker fur. He had had light brown fur, with black running through in some areas, pure grey eyes, and an interesting facial marking that's color was a very dark brown. His ears has been almost fully black, and his tummy had a mixture of black and the same dark brown from his face. Most of his pack had spread rumors that he was actually a Southern Rocky Mountain Wolf, whose coats were often darker, or at least a mixture of the two breeds. This version of him who came to Shiro was about six months old, and called himself "Sora", the only indication that it was not in fact her father, but a figment of her imagination.
Sora told her that he was her older brother. He was very fake on the outside, always seeming to tell her what she wanted to hear and smiling about everything. As she got to know him, many tests were done on the small pup. They kept her in a steel cage that was always cold and so lonely. They tested her DNA to ensure her breed, and then tested her to find ways to save her breed by testing her reactions to things, and how she responded to certain treatments and tests and the like. This went on for two years, and the only thing that kept her from completely losing her mind was her brother, Sora, who never left her side. He always touched her when she was tested and was always able to enter her cage to be with her after she had been shut back up. Without him, she would have been completely alone, and would have succumbed to insanity. Despite his seeming apathy, Sora was her constant companion, and Shiro was able to see how much he loved her through his mask. Anytime Sora wasn't with her, Shiro's sanity began to slip. She would almost go stir crazy in her cage, pacing in circles until she collapsed from dizziness. Most often, this was when she woke up. Sora would have gone somewhere while she slept and wouldn't always return immediately upon her gaining consciousness.
After two years, the facility decided that they had completed all tests that they could, and because Shiro had remained sane and wild, they determined that she could be set free. They thought that her instincts would simply kick in in time for her to survive. So they set a plan for her to be shipped via helicopter to mountain range that existed in British Columbia, as there was more territory there. However, during their plans, something was misconstrued, or miscommunicated, and the pilot thought he was taking his cargo to South Africa. The process took a few months, and the pilot took Shiro to the Drakensberg mountain range close to the tip of South Africa. When the crate touched the earth and broke apart, Shiro immediately entered the mountain range, and hid. For a long time, she simply looked around her, absolutely bewildered. All she had ever known were the steel bars all around her, and the white labs where they injected her with things, or forced her close to strange things, or put a funny smelling gas in her nose that made her lose control of her body and eventually dragged her into unconsciousness. For a short time, this consumed her mind, and she forgot to look for her brother. Her senses were going wild with all the new scents and sounds and sights, and she was so overwhelmed that she began to shake terribly. Her mind completely shut down, and she fell unconscious. Just before the blackness totally overtook her, she heard Sora's voice whispering in her ear: You really are empty. When she awoke, she was laying on a strange beach, on the eastern coast of Anikira, although it was unknown to the female that she had traveled such a distance. Sora lay next to her, asleep in exhaustion.
Personality: Shiro is an interesting character, because of her laboratory childhood. In order to save her sanity, her mind subconsciously split in half, creating the hallucination "Sora" and making him into a real character. Sora is the other half of Shiro's split personality. The reason he looks like her father is because her father is really the only live wolf that she has ever seen or observed. Her mother died only days after Shiro opened her eyes, and even so, she was always either extremely still or shaking in seizures, and so Shiro paid most of her attention to her father. So her mind made a figment of her imagination that was closer to her size and age and therefore able to interact with her better, in the image of the only other healthy, living wolf she'd seen--also why he is male--and made it her companion, so she wouldn't feel alone. When she was released back into the wild, she was over-stimulated, and her mind combined Sora into itself, instead of an outward character, to an inward one. And in that moment, she spoke to herself, and switched personalities to her more calm and collected one. She traveled to the ocean and swam to Anikira, in an attempt to escape the place where she had been dropped, and thus arrived on the isle of Anikira. Because of this, her sanity remains, however it is made questionable by her multiple personalities, as sometimes she has discussions with Sora, and to any observer, it is with herself.
Shiro is socially awkward. Because of the fact that she was raised without the proper social interactions of siblings and packmates, and generally other wolves or animals, she lacks the ability to interact with others very well if at all. She is very shy and quiet, usually not speaking to anyone
