It had been a day since the young male had arrived at Acerbus and, while he had thoroughly enjoyed his time in the forest, he was ready to keep moving and continue exploring. With a yawn and a stretch, he got up from his resting place and shook his self-off, cleaning his fur of any loose dirt. The day was still young, the sun having just climbed over the horizon and started its ascend to the top of the sky. The weather was still warm but it wasn’t as sunny as the day before had been. Clouds covered the sky, some darker than others, and Croix couldn’t help but wonder if a storm was going to hit within the next few days.
Though he was eager to begin exploring again, Croix knew he needed to eat before he did. It had been a long journey the day before and he hadn’t had anything to eat since the day before that. His stomach was in knots and constantly growling as it fussed at him for failing to take care of himself. He growled at himself in annoyance but started walking out of the forest, keeping his eyes peeled for a place where prey might be. Luckily, it didn’t take long to find that place. A smooth summit with plenty of grass seemed like a perfect spot for prey and Croix was quick to duck behind some overgrown shrubbery, awaiting what would become his next meal.
It took at least fifteen to twenty minutes for anything to move out into the open but finally, a gazelle made its way out, grazing obliviously. Instantly, Croix took note of the large horns the animal carried atop it’s cranium, seemingly enough to easily stab him. Yet, he was too hungry to let the prey go without at least attempting to bring it down and he did love a challenge. Waiting for the prey to turn his back, Croix sprinted forward, running as fast as he could before he leapt onto its back. As soon as his claws dug in, the gazelle was bucking and screaming. Immediately, Croix could feel the strength that the animal possessed. As he fought just to keep a hold of the animal, he knew he would never be able to bring the animal down on his own. If help didn’t arrive soon, he would have to let it go and hope it didn’t retaliate.
