In Anikira, the territories are divided based on geographic location in relation to each other. However, neighboring territories have the option to either be friendly, remain neutral, or be enemies. With the introduction of the new conquest rules, packs have the opportunity to align with each other, or try their hand at establishing an empire in Anikira.
The Territories - Neighboring Territories
Adjoining packlands have the option to align with one another. However, if they choose less friendly terms, then the rules of conquest come into play. Each pack is responsible for maintaining their own territories. If one pack leaves a territory unoccupied, an adjoining pack can enter the packlands and attempt to overtake a part of that pack's lands.
Boards are claimed individually, not as an entire category. Each territory must be individually claimed in order to overtake an entire packland.
Non-Combat Conquest
Non-Combat Conquest is the most typical attempt to overtake lands. It is not only a method of weeding out the smaller packs, it allows for larger packs to expand into nicer territories (SEE T.1) as well as establish a heirarchy of the packs. It also requires no interaction whatsoever on behalf of the pack that is losing territory. Below are the rules for non-combat conquest.
1. A territory must have no active threads from the occupying pack in order to be eligible for the contested state.
2. Pack lands must be adjoining to be taken over. (READ EXC. 1)
3. A conquest thread must contain at least two wolves. They do not both need to be from the same pack, but the thread must specifically state which pack the conquest threat is from, and the second wolf cannot be a member of the pack whose lands are being conquered. (READ EXC. 2)
4. For a successful non-combat conquer of a territory, the thread may not be entered by a member of the pack that wishes to contest the claim. If this happens, the conquering pack can either flee or enter combat conquering.
5. A claiming thread must be established for three days and have at least three posts in order to be considered a successful claim.
Combat Conquest
Combat Conquest is either the result of a failed non-combat attempt or the direct attack of one pack on another. Combat conquest requires more effort than non-combat, and it is usually only used if non-combat is failed. However, once a pack starts establishing an empire (SEE T.2) it becomes exceedingly difficult to claim territories without fighting because the wolves have been pressed into a smaller area. Below are the rules for combat conquest.
1. If a conquest attempt results in fighting, each side must be represented by at least one wolf. Typically, this wolf is either a high-ranked wolf or a warrior of the pack.
2. Most combat attempts last in a fight to the death, unless the losing side chooses to surrender. If the side surrenders, the conquering pack CANNOT kill the opposing wolves without the player's permission!
3. Attacks bought in the store can be used in combat conquest; this type of conquest lasts until one side is either eradicated or surrenders. There is a maximum time of one month on a single battle unless appealed to a staff member due to stalling on one side or the other.
4. If there is a close match, it will ultimately be up to the staff to decide which side retains the territory.
Notes
T.1 - Certain territories have off-seasons for hunting. Below are the seasons associated with each pack's heavy hunting seasons. Red seasons are the least inhabited season for each territory.
The Oriens - Spring, Fall - Winter
The Occasus - Winter - Summer/Fall
Acerbus - Summer, Fall - Winter
Kamari - Spring, Summer - Fall
Shyia - Summer - Fall/Winter
Tiayr - Summer, Fall - Spring
Xisyn - Winter, Spring - Summer
T.2 - An empire is started/established when one pack has overtaken at least one other pack's entire territory. For example, if Salen controlled both Acerbus AND Kamari, it would become the Salen Empire. It is at this point that the pack is at liberty to establish heirarchy within its empire - decide whether or not to allow the pack that occupies its conquered territory to remain a separate entity, just within the empire, strike a bargain to exchange assistance for peace... Whatever the pack wishes to do. At this stage, the empire is likely becoming a threat to all the other packs, so the empire needs to be prepared for angry sentiments.
EXC. 1 - If the pack's ORIGINAL territory is not next to the land they wish to claim, it is possible to do so. However, this pack must occupy at least one area of a pack land that is next to the desired location.Example: The pack in the Oriens wishes to claim Nyjoro Hills. However, the Oriens does not sit next to Tiayr. In order to claim Nyjoro Hills, the pack in the Oriens must claim at least one territory in Kamari.
EXC. 2 - It is possible for a member of a pack to become a traitor: a traitor is defined as any wolf that abandons his/her pack in hard times. These wolves either strike a deal with the conquering pack or join the conquering pack rather than stand with their old home. These wolves are almost always forbidden to rejoin the pack they have abandoned.
NOTE: If a pack is completely driven out of its territory, it may temporarily (up to two weeks) reside in the free lands - I'queyer OR Caurus - before they are dissolved. They have this amount of time to either attempt to reclaim their territory or encrouch on another pack's lands.
