So far, Teivel's time walking upon the dirt of Anikira had proven to be just as bland and uneventful as the time on the human boat. It was certainly pleasant to be capable of exercising his limbs and have the ability to roam wherever he wished, but the constant sound of large paws padding the ground behind him served as a reminder that he was not alone. Ekon, the Bengal tiger that he had allowed to be some sort of traveling partner, was one factor that contributed to the lack of excitement that had occurred within the past few weeks. The two exchanged very few words, which had been expected and somewhat appreciated by the brute after the disagreement that had unfolded between them upon Endyt Beach. The fact that the feline had been so fond of the bitch that had stumbled upon them continued to befuddle the canine.
The silence between himself and the cat was strangely comforting to the scarred male. His mind was racing at a thousand miles an hour, and he desperately needed to get everything sorted out. After his unwanted encounter with the Mackenzie femme, Tei had deeply considered hanging around the beach to await his sister or brother's arrival, but he had ultimately decided that it wasn't worth it. Waiting around for something that was so unlikely to occur was plain foolish, and the brute was beginning to hate the pure blissfulness of the gentle waves rolling onto the soft sandy soil. But now, as the two animals of opposite species trekked through varieties of terrain and climate, the canine was not sure that he had made the right choice. He could picture little Cossette washing up onto the same beach he had, dazed and confused, without an older brother there to protect her. Agonizing pains rippled through his muscles, his head throbbing with anger. His narrow minded self could not seem to wrap his head around whether he should have stayed or not.
It was about midday when vivid green orbs spotted water along the horizon. A mixture of both shock and relief flooded through the male's system. His paws had hiked through miles of unknown land, some claimed by a pack and some that were free to be roamed by a loner like himself. The pads of his paws were nearly raw from the amount of walking that had been done, seeing as the two had only stopped for a few hours each night to rest. Now that there was nearly no more dirt to walk on, he could finally give himself the rest he so needed. Teivel's pace quickened slightly, not caring whether or not the tiger behind him decided to speed up as well. Once he reached the water's edge, the male's emerald orbs squinted into the distance, double checking that he had reached the West coast of Anikira. But, was that land that he could see in the distance? From what he had learned, the ocean was supposed to go on endlessly. When he blinked to clear his vision, the brute came to the sudden realization that where he was standing was not the end of the line. Yes, the liquid the lapped at his forepaws smelled strongly of salt, so he must be observing the ocean. But why in the world was there an island so close to this continent?
Perhaps the Arctic and Tundra male was not an expert in geography or earth science, but what wolf is? From past experiences, Teivel had come to the conclusion that islands and continents were not easy to come across, and each was supposed to be separated by a vast expanse of ocean. So, the sight of land so nearby was quite peculiar to the canine. With a glance behind him to the striped feline, he spoke the first words he had spoken in days. "I assume you are capable of swimming?" His voice was hoarse and lacked its normal level of volume. With a gracious nod, the giant cat replied, "I made it this far, didn't I?" The canine's response was a small grunt and a short wag of his tail. Deep inside, he was aware that the smartest move right now would be to take a nap and then continue on with the journey that had an uncertain destination. Curiosity obviously overcame common sense in this situation because in a matter of seconds he had plunged into the chilly water and was paddling his way towards the land mass that had consumed his interests.
After what seemed to be hours of rigorous swimming through the slightly choppy water, his paws finally reached out to feel grainy sand beneath him. The large male hauled himself out of the water and shook his pelt until it was fairly dry. As soon as his audits absorbed the sound of Ekon shaking his own pelt, Teivel's nose detected the strong scent of pack borders. He was extremely familiar with the level of importance of respecting pack boundaries but only because he had patrolled them for two whole years of his life, chasing off the occasional loner that decided to ignore the lines. With a huff of disappointment, the brute weighed his options. He would not enter the territory of the pack that resides here, that was for sure. His only other options were to turn right around and swim back to the continent or summon the alpha of the pack for acceptance. Suddenly, the thought stroked his mind that maybe it wasn't such a sensible idea to swim that distance once more when he was so exhausted. "What would you think of joining a pack?" he hissed, not even taking the time to turn to the huge feline that was behind him. "I like that idea, maybe you could even make a few friends," Ekon answered in his smooth, deep voice.
Today wasn't supposed to be an exciting day, and truthfully the male wasn't quite fond of this turn of events. If only he hadn't been so intrigued by this small island, he would be sleeping right now. "Curiosity killed the cat," he thought, but soon took it back once he realized the irony in the fact that he had a feline with him. Sure, he hadn't exactly been fond of the tiger in the first place, but traveling such a long distance had caused the canine to feel some kind of attachment to Ekon. Before he began preparing to call the alpha of these lands, he made a promise to himself that he would not join this pack unless the striped cat was allowed to stay as well. You wouldn't be surprised how many wolves wouldn't be too excited to allow a nine hundred pound feline into their parklands. Without any further delays, the male threw his head back, shut his eyes, and let out a loud howl. The song was sounding of confidence, but at the same time held respect. Although the brute was often rude and selfish, he knew the proper way to live in a pack. The only problem was, he wasn't sure how long he could keep up with it. The canine had only known the life of having a high rank, so he wasn't completely sure how to act if given a low position within the pack.
