The day was dry, the wind dead. Clouds littered the sky, covering up the sun almost entirely. As a result, the day was very dim, almost dark. It was an ominous day. Usually, Zaida wouldn't wander so far from the pack, in case she was needed. Especially on a day such as this, where it was dark. It was the perfect opportunity to kill. But Yahvi had more or less dismissed her and gone to sleep. Probably tired from training the two newest members. They were both big, and strong, but they needed much practice in the art of silence. Zaida was the best at it; she had mastered it, whereas her siblings were not perfect. But she never lorded it over them, except when she wanted to provoke Atoyo into a fight.
Today, Zaida was bold because of the darkness. She had come from the Nyjoro Hills, Osani's current camp out, and gone straight through the Xayar Forest. She knew that it was Airila territory, but her scent would be unrecognizable to them and she therefore did not care. It would also be stale by the time anyone found it, and therefore it would not smell the same as her fresh scent. As a result, it wouldn't be trackable. She had then swam from the beach at the edge of the forest to the shores of Ina'mos Island.
She had passed the Liandry Falls on her way to the southern tip of the island, and finally reached Dyndre's Swamp. The swamp was dark as well, and combined with the darkness of the day, it almost appeared as though it was night. She slowly made her way through the swamp. She did notice all of the beautiful birds that tweeted and called, but she paid them no mind.
Zaida was emotionless. She was not apathetic, she simply did not feel any emotion. Ever. This stemmed from her entire childhood consisting of hard training, not enough food sometimes, constant teasing by her siblings, and never any affection from her mother. She had always received the cold shoulder. At first, she became jealous of Atoyo, her brother, as he always received all of the attention. But as she was finally able to begin planning her revenge on him, she slowly began to lose all emotion. By the time she was a year, she had lost it all. Inside her body was a hard mind and a cold heart. Her heart was only there to keep her alive. It never warmed, never constricted with sadness or pity, never boiled with anger or jealousy, and it never, ever beat with any degree of joy. Because of this, the birds would never interest her unless one was to be a meal.
She was cold. She was ruthless. And she was an assassin. But she could fake anything like hell. Her mind was so sharp, so quick because of her lack of emotions that she never got caught up in thoughts or emotions. And therefore, she was able to keep such a constant focus that she could hear farther, and keep up a perfect mask for months.
And now, as she made her way to the edge of the swampy waters, she put a mask in place. For her ears picked up a faraway rustling, and she knew that she was to be disturbed once more. This mask was one of young innocence. After all, she was only two. It was an innocent curiosity, with a wall of depression hiding behind it. One would look and think that she had had something sad happen to her, and had come to the swamp out of curiosity as a way to forget it. She peered over into the water, positioned precariously over the edge.
