Tchiya paced through the valley, her emerald eyes cast heavenward. The clouds were ashen, and they seemed to stir. She knew what was coming. In the distance, a growl of thunder seemed to confirm what she was already thinking.
There was a storm coming.
The air felt charged with electricity as her strong ivory legs carried her faster. She wouldn't have much time before the storm hit. Thick raindrops were already beginning to fall from the sky. They were heavy enough to cloud Tchiya's vision as she searched for shelter. Her thick arctic coat would not be pleasant if it got drenched with water. She already felt slower as she moved toward a nearby cavern. Her legs rubbed uncomfortably against her body as she hurried inside, ducking under the earth and shaking the unwanted moisture from her fur. There was mud between her toes and she was damp, but she had found shelter.
The large female moved around in the tight quarters, trying to find a dry place to settle in. Eventually she was able to relax next to a twisted underground root. She wrapped her tail around her legs and stared into the veil of water outside.
The past several days had been pretty uneventful for the young female. She'd only just left home, but still her heart had been hopeful. She'd been imagining all of the wonderful things she would see and the wonderful wolves she would meet, but so far she'd only met one. She'd been wandering the unclaimed lands in the hopes of finding others like her, but the places she'd visited had proved to be fairly unpopulated. The only encounter she'd had so far was Kenai. He was so kind, surely she'd made one friend already, but what harm could there be in making more?
That wouldn't happen anytime soon, though. This valley seemed to be just as empty as the rest. Tchiya sank lower, pressing her stomach to the cool earth and resting her head on her paws. Rain continued to fall, collecting into thin streams that trickled into the cavern around her. She edged her tail to the side to avoid one of the little nuisances, and then she sighed. Something seemed off about Tchiya today. Normally she felt optimistic about life, and each step she took was confident. But despite the empowering thunderstorm outside, she only felt drained.
Tchiya took a deep breath and stood, shuffling toward the cavern's entrance. She slowly pushed her nose outside, letting a smile ease onto her lips as the water struck her muzzle and dripped to the ground. She wouldn't let the loneliness get her down. Someone was bound to come along soon enough, and if all else failed, she could join a pack.
The thunder continued to rumble across the land as the rain came pouring down.
