Soft breezes caressed the plains, stirring the dry grasses and making them sing. The wide, familiar lands welcomed them. Scents of nearby prey drifted on the wind. Tchiya sighed in relief and smiled at her newfound companions. They'd made it safely.
She had been extremely worried about walking on the edge of another pack's territory. They would have been easily outnumbered in a strange land with little means of escape. But nothing bad had happened. And now Tchiya was home. She knew that being distracted with thoughts of her family while she should have been carefully surveying their surroundings had been risky, but she hadn't been able to help herself. These were the lands she'd grown up in. Her family was here somewhere, probably relaxing in the sunshine of this beautiful day. But Tchiya wasn't sure if she wanted to run into them. She didn't want her resolve to waver. She had made the decision to be independent, and she was determined to stick to that choice.
Her verdant gaze narrowed as she squinted into the distance, trying to make out the shapes of deer on the distant hills. She caught the movement of a large herd grazing half a mile away, and her stomach tightened with anticipation. The extra walking had only intensified her hunger, and she was sure that her friends were beginning to feel the same way. Tchiya looked over at the siblings and grinned, swinging her tail happily. "Welcome to I'queyer. This is where I grew up, so I know my way around. Don't worry about a thing," she chirped, bowing lightly as a joke. "I can see a herd of deer over those hills. We can try our luck there. What do you say?"
She bounced forward and nipped Sydas's ear, tapping her shoulder against Kenai as she did so. This was going to be a very successful hunt. She'd never had a team of three before. Only a team of two - but she wouldn't dare think of her father now. Not when she was so close to him. It was dangerous. So she trotted a few steps ahead and perked her ears, tilting her nose to breathe in the scent of the deer. Metallic blood coursed through her veins, tingling with adrenaline. "Ready to hunt?"
Her paws struck warm earth as she leapt forward, breaking into a run. The grass flew under her powerful legs as she descended the first hill and began to power up the next. Tchiya's white figure streaked across the plains, and her maw cracked into an eager grin. As she peaked the next hill, the deer seemed much closer. It wouldn't be long now. She swerved toward a line of vegetation in an attempt to conceal the hunting party from their target. After all, it would only complicate things if the herd saw them and started to flee. She slowed her run a bit and glanced back at her partners, who were close on her heels. "So," Tchiya began, her words interrupted with the occasional panting breath. "What kind of strategy did you have in mind?"
