Her first thought was of the scent. It was particularly strong here, where she paced at the mouth of a massive cavern. The coolness of the stone seemed to reach out to her, and a damp breeze sighed against her fur. The movement of the air only stirred the scent more, causing it to thread its way in with every breath she took. She had stumbled upon a claimed territory. The scent in the air held heavy dominance in its tones, and the instinctual part of her brain was clicking into place, telling her to flee before any trouble came her way. But this was the second pack she had come across since she'd left home, and she hadn't run into any pack members yet. Perhaps these groups were passive, or - at the very least - friendly. And if that were the case, she might like to meet them. Her father had grown up in a pack and had held a high rank in one for most of his life. Maybe she could discover what that was like. It was a flavor of life unknown to her thus far, and Tchiya was always curious. She wanted to experience everything she could. Maybe eventually she would settle down and take after her father, protecting a pack of wolves that could be like her family.
But for now, she continued to pace, keeping her distance and listening for any approaching wolves. If any happened to appear, she would be submissive. After all, she meant no aggression. She simply wished to explore this lifestyle, to see if it was meant for her. Once the snowy female had given her own scent plenty of time to travel throughout the territory, she began to take a few tentative steps inside. The refreshing air soothed her immediately, and she smiled gently. This would be a lovely place to live, she thought. She could only hope that the wolves living here would be kind enough to speak to her first. The last thing she wanted to do was fight someone. She would never dream of intruding someone's home. Her father had given her a goal in life, and that was to protect others and make them feel safe. Her fighting skills were only to serve her in self-defense and the defense of the ones she cared about. I don't want to alarm anyone. I should probably stay put.
Tchiya's steps came to rest several yards inside the cavern. She sighed peacefully and settled on her haunches to wait. The delicate sounds of dripping water echoed throughout the empty space, but other than that all was silent. Her ears turned slowly from side to side, hearing every soft noise around her. The water trickling down the slippery walls of the cave. The tiny snapping sound of a frog hopping along the floor, disappearing into the shadows. Tchiya breathed in once more through her nose, enjoying the moist air and trying to ignore the tingling sensation of panic. Her mind refused to be calm in this moment. It felt unnatural to be here, so outside her comfort zone. But what was life without a little adventure?
