History:
When his mother gave birth in British Columbia, Dryston was one of five born, however, he came out seemingly stillborn, an event that nearly brought his mother to complete grief. However, a few moments later as his mother cradled both the live pups and her stillborn pup close, Dryston stirred, and seemingly came back to life, much to his own mother’s joy.
He spent the next few weeks gradually growing, but then, something happened, an event that left Dryston confused, an event he struggles to remember. All he can remember was his mother quickly herding her young into a small hole underneath an open tree, quietly, but shakingly telling them she would be back before quickly departing. Half an hour later, as the pups shuffled and shoved each other about in the enclosed space, a single gunshot echoed across the landscape.
As day turned into night, the pups squirmed and cried out for their mother, hungry, cold and confused. The following morning, a young human coming past heard the pups still struggling in their hiding place, and recovered the uncertain pups. Soon separated from his brothers and sisters, Dryston was loaded onto a plane and sent across the Atlantic, towards Norway.
A few more months passed as Dryston found himself raised by humans in a centre in Norway. By spring, Dryston was released into Norway, as part of a new programme. Initally struggling to survive, an Eurasian grey wolf soon found him, and brought him under his wing as a member of a Nordic pack, far from civilisation. Over the next year and a half, Dryston had prospered under this pack, and had soon entered a relationship with one of the young she-wolves of the pack.
As much as Dryston felt more like a Norwegian wolf over a North American wolf, Dryston was desperate to find out more about his past. An arctic wolf who had encountered Machenzie Valley wolves before explained about Dryston’s British Colombian heritage. Despite the protests of those he cared about, Dryston was able to sneak aboard a container ship that was to set sail across the Atlantic, promising he would return.
Upon arriving in British Columbia, Dryston searched for clues of his past, speaking to other Valley Wolves for answers, but very few could help. Eventully, he found out that one wolf may have known his mother, but by the time Dryston arrived, he had found out that the wolf that may have held the key to his past had just passed away. Resigned to the fact that he would likely never rediscover his past, he returned to Norway by ship, 6 months after he first left, but was horrified to discover most of the pack he knew was scattered after an especially harsh winter, and the she wolf he had fallen in love with had mated with a rival of his. Heartbroken, Dryston left the place had called home for so long, and travelled south.
During his travels, he would encounter other wolves briefly, and occasionally heard the name Anikira spoken of in hushed tones, “Is this place a myth or actually real?” was the question Dryston eventully asked, and found confirmation of it’s existence. After discovering it’s location, he found a ship that was travelling close to Anikira’s rumoured location, and seeing an island in the distance, he lept of the ship and swam towards it, seeking a new life to take advantage of.
Personality:
Dryston is a friendly wolf, but nevertheless he is a flawed wolf indeed. Dryston is particularly awkward in the way he behaves and acts. For example, one moment he may not be very interested or focused on a particular topic, then the moment it changes, you will have his complete attention. Another case could be that he is either too quiet or too loud depending on the situation.
First impressions are incredibly important when it comes to Dryston, any wolf that is friendly and inviting enough Dryston will seek to interact with, whilst wolves that scold him or annoy him he will do what ever in his power to avoid interacting with them. Likewise, betrayal and sudden changes in attitude towards him can also cause his opinion to change quite quickly too. Dryston’s emotions can easily get ahead of him, making him easy to wind up or mauliplate.
A mercenary at heart, often when others ask him to do something he will tend to look for something in return, though those he particular cares about may not have to contend with this. Likewise he may not want to do something even if the one requiring him demands it from him. Once someone gets to know him though, he will prove to be a loyal, fierce and welcoming friend ready to help others. He might even treat them to a drink or two (just an example!), as is a Norwegian wolf’s custom!
