History: Hailwind was birthed on Anikira, the island continent of the coast of Africa, to his mother, Flameheart. The pup was healthy and large but the only survivor of his litter. His father, Kinoma, had been injured and later died after a fight with a rogue wolf who was looking for easy territory. Hailwind never got to meet his father. His mother however, remained strong and looked after her son successfully by herself. Living alone in the rolling planes wasn't the best living conditions for the small family of traditional valley dwellers but they made the best out of it. Hailwind and his mother trained daily on hunting, fighting, sneaking, tracking, intimidating, anything they could think of to pass the time in the silent fields of their territory.
As Hailwind became older and started growing into a young adult male, he became lonely and longed for company other than his mother and the occasional song of a generous bird. He ignored his feelings though for he didn't dare leave his mother's side. Danger plagued the plains and could attack any time of the day. Flameheart roasted her son one evening when she couldn't stand to not notice his body language of restlessness. "Son, travel beyond our border perimeters. Search for what you crave, as well as what I crave. You are not the only one who wishes for you to have happiness, you know." Hailwind furrowed his brows in split emotions. He bowed his head, his tail hanging at half sail in submission to her rank and wisdom. "Be careful mother," he advised, looking over his shoulder as he head westbound into unknown territory. Flameheart smiled back at him with glistening eyes full of pride. Hailwind turned his attention to the horizon, not knowing that would be the last he ever saw of his mother's heart warming face.
As he progressed into the uncharted land beyond their borders, Hailwind grew ever thirstier. Water was a rarity in his travel. The young wolf had only found one puddle of murky water since he had left his home territory. Things weren't looking very well for him. He began to be disoriented and weak at the joints, his fur wadding in sweat and dust clumps along his pelt. His legs buckled as he carried on, licking his dry chops effortlessly. All of a sudden he collapsed near a small, leafy bush. Its leaves were dry and hardy, tickling his nose as a soft wind blew them near his face. Hailwind blinked, his vison blurry and fading. He thought he saw his mother's shadow coming near as he fell asleep.
"Are you alive?" A female voice awoke Hailwind, his mouth parched and his eyes crusty. He tried to speak but his voice was cracked and inaudible. "Follow me, I can get you to water," the female told him, leading him in a direction she seemed sure of. Hailwind used all his strength to get up and wobble after her. After what seemed like hours, the scent of water filled his nose and new found energy burst throughout him. Hailwind rushed to the small freshwater stream ahead of them, sucking up more water than he could swallow in one gulp at a time. Finally he turned his attention to the she wolf. This red coated female was a stranger, never had he met such a beautiful creature. Her yellow eyes glinted flirtatiously. "Where have you come from?" She asked, sitting back on her haunches. Hailwind looked around, his heart sinking. "I don't know."
The she wolf cautiously leaned forward, sniffing at him. "You don't smell familiar. Are you an alpha?" Hailwind blinked, noticing his tail had perked up and he seemed to be in an alpha stance with his muscles flexed and his chest puffed out. He stood up, realizing that that was exactly what he was. Hailwind nodded cooly to her and stepped down into the stream, soaking himself in the cold water. He looked back at her, feeling rude. "My name's Hailwind," He added. The she wolf smiled, stepping closer to the water with him. "Mine's Sierra." The two wolves talked for some time and played in the stream, becoming fast friends. When it began to get dark, Sierra invited Hailwind to follow her home. They trekked back to her camp between three large, thick branched trees. The branches touched the ground, creating a great wall against the outside nocturnal animals.
Hailwind and Sierra bonded quickly after some time, spending the days together hunting and exploring. Hailwind tried and tried to start a pack with her but couldn't due to his reproductive problems. Sierra didn't mind though, Hailwind was enough for her. The couple were very happy together. One day though, Hailwind was out hunting when a wandering lion came across Sierra alone. When Hailwind returned there wasn't anything he could do. Heartbroken, he wandered back the way he thought he came in search of his mother but what he didn't know was that he went the wrong direction and ended up in the territories.
Personality: Hailwind was once a happy go lucky, fun young wolf but after the untimely death of his mate, Sierra, Hailwind has become bitter and quiet. He often talks to and argues with himself. Around others he maintains a cold, hateful personality, afraid to get close to anyone in fear of losing them. He carries a sad, wistful glimmer of hope when he is alone, hoping that one day he will be reunited with his mother. His temper is at a bubble bursting rate. Anything could set him off and make him take a snap at you. Hailwind is not the wolf to be reckoned with. Pups anger him the easiest because of his inability to have his own. He is very jealous of wolves with pups. Nights with full moons Hailwind will stand a silent vigil for his loved ones, dedicated and sorrowful for the ones he lost. The only time this male will show any signs of happiness is when he swims because it reminds him of the first time he met Sierra, swimming with her in that small stream after she found him in the hot sun under that bush. Over all, Hailwind is just a shadow full of sadness and wistful hope.
