History: Summit’s origins are humble. His parents were subordinate pack members of a now defuct pack that once roamed Kal’dyne, reclusive and distant from others. The small group was ill fated. They were outcasts and exiles who wandered into the jungle to escape other packs or a sordid past. Their long coats were not well suited to the humid environment, but they tolerated the discomfort because no one would bother them there. His father Dusk was a warrior, while his mother Meadow was a healer. The pair was growing old and longed desperately for a litter of their own to carry on their legacies, to pass down their talents and their knowledge to the next generation. After begging the alpha, a she-wolf named Era, they were finally granted permission to start a new family.
Months later, four pups arrived in the world. The oldest was a boy they named Summit, who was followed by three sisters: Cascade, Journey, and Melody, the runt of the litter. From a young age, Summit was expected to follow in his father’s paw prints, to be a great warrior. Instead, he was more interested in his mother’s skills for healing, while his sister Journey seemed a more adept fighter. Summit remained the largest of the sibling quartet as they grew older, and he was very attached and protective of each, even Journey, who was not in need of protection.
When the pups were only six months old, another of the jungle’s fierce denizens killed Dusk, a jaguar called Cinder who disliked the flourishing lupine presence that had appeared in Kal'dyne the recent years. Meadow devoted all of her time and energy to her pups. Summit excelled in his herbal studies, while Journey was growing into a strong fighter. Cascade was a natural-born storyteller, able to conjure up imaginative stories to entertain the pack. Although she was the runt, Melody was a special pup with a deep spiritual connection to the unseen. Often, Meloday had telling dreams that seemed to guess at future events. She was gentle and sweet, and Summit was particularly fond of his unusual littlest sister.
By the time Summit and his sisters were nearing their second birthday, disaster was closing in on them. Their mother Meadow died mysteriously, her body never recovered from the jungle. Melody had recurring nightmares, horrible visions of their demise, but there were enough warriors to defend the pack from outsiders. The warriors couldn’t save them from the sickness that soon descended upon the pack. No herbs could stop the plague once it began, nothing could offer relief once it began. One by one, the wolves Summit knew and loved began to grow violently ill. Within days, they began to drop dead. Summit’s guardian was one of the first to die. Melody was gone two days later, sputtering in agony as her life slipped away. Summit watched the unfolding horror around him helplessly. After only a week had passed, the alpha died a similarly gruesome death. Summit was inconsolable.
Without their leader, the few remaining pack members wandered the jungle until only a few remained. Summit and his surviving sisters made a painful decision: strike out on their own before they met the same fate as their fallen family, before they fell ill like all the others. Abandoning his remaining pack mates was against his principles, but he knew it was their only chance of survival. The pack had once been crucial to their collective survival, but each member would soon be dead.
Summit was almost three years old when Journey disappeared. He watched his snowy sibling disappear into the jungle en route for the river, and then he never saw her again. Cascade vanished without a trace only days later. He searched in vain for two months, but could find no hint that his errant siblings were still alive.
Alone and miserable, Summit finally ventured out of the jungle to search for a new home on the main island of Anikira – perhaps one with a more suitable climate with a welcoming pack. Nearing his third birthday, Summit is larger than his warrior father once was, while maintaining the same nurturing personality that his mother had displayed and encouraged in him. He seeks a pack where he will be able to use his healing skills to help others.
Personality: Despite the hardships he has endured, Summit is gracious, a gentle giant. He possesses the physique of a gladiator and the soul of a martyr. Empathetic to a fault, Summit has suffered, and he feels a deep sense of compassion for others who have lost their loved ones. His nature is naturally loving and kind, but he is nervous to grow too close to others out of fear for losing more. He is generous, happily giving a kill to a stranger who is in need of sustenance. His giving nature may allow others to take advantage of his generosity.
When he finally lets his guard down, he is a dependable friend, trustworthy and honest. He learned respect at a young age and will treat his future alpha with the esteem they deserve. He will not hesitate to lay down his life for the good of a pack, or to save a friend. He is passionate about the things he cares about to the point overzealousness – he will be the first to defend a territory or a loved one, almost heedless in his desire to help and protect. A lifetime spent in the harsh jungle has created an imposing figure, with strong muscles beneath his ivory coat, but Summit is a lover, not a fighter. He will never instigate a fight, but he is courageous enough to finish one.
Summit was raised with a deep reverence for nature and the cycles of life. He has a vast knowledge of healing herbs and roots, carrying on his mother's traditions. His beliefs in spirit and the mysteries of life are unflappable, and he studies the night sky closely. Life in the jungle was dangerous, requiring knowledge and strength that Summit still possesses. There is also a playful side to Summit, that happy-go-lucky part of the wolf that carried over from his puppy days, though this aspect of the wolf is likely to stay hidden for a long while. Prone to daydreams and clumsy falls, he is not the most graceful creature, but he is a swift and talented hunter, despite his oversized paws.
