The cool water lapped at the feet of the female wolf as she began to wade into the quick waters. She was still shook up after a near-drowning experience and washing up on the shores of an unknown island. She was strong, just like her brothers and her father had taught her to be. (God bless their souls.) She lowered her head to take a drink, but the hunger and the dehydration was getting to her, and she lost her balance. With the current being strong, her whole body submerged in the shallows, soaking the female.
Frustrated, she tried to stand up again. She planted her paws into the soft bed of the stream and heaved her body upwards. She was not raised to be a quitter. The fact that her coat was thinner than most Tundra wolves and her being soaking wet, the quiet breeze froze her to the bone. A single shiver was sent down her spine and a sigh escaped from her maw. Silently cursing, she tried again to get a drink of water. This time, she was successful.
An unfamiliar scent wafted through the breeze as she lifted her head from the pleasing drink. The scent was that of wolf, but of an unknown wolf. If another wolf was nearby, she would surely be killed for trespassing, and she was in no state for an altercation at this point in time. Her mind wandered back to the times of when she had a home and a pack. 'Maybe this could be the right time and place for me to find another home?' she though.
The scent of wolf grew stronger and stronger as she neared the bank of the stream. She felt bad for intruding on an unknown territory that belonged to someone. So she mustered all of her remaining strength, and let go a beautiful howl that echoed throughout the area. The howl lasted momentarily, but the echo went on. The echo hinted at loneliness, and disparity. Hopefully someone would hear it and come to her aid.
