History: It had been many years since this rejected wolf had lived among other wolves. Born to a lone female, Aurik was the only pup of a litter of four to survive, but his survival came at a price. His mother, Mira, was unable to find adequate shelter to protect her infant pups. Not uncommon for northern Anikira, a late spring snowstorm blew through, terrorizing the small family. While Aurik's sisters all perished in the storm, Aurik managed to live through the night. With the death of her other three pups, Mira carried her little boy into a thicket to wait out the storm. But the moisture from the storm sunk into the small puppy's ears, causing a serious infection. For days, Aurik battled high fevers and chills as his body struggled to fight off the infection in his ears. With time, the inflammation reduced, but the damage was already done. The poor little one was left without an ounce of hearing. For weeks, he could not understand what was happening. The yips and whines he had once identified as his own were no longer there; it was a life full of silence.
It was difficult growing up in an audible world without sound in your own head. For months, Aurik struggled to do the most basic of tasks such as communicate and hunt. Luckily, the majority of learned tasks for a young puppy were communicated through body language. For the first year of his life, he struggled to learn to communicate with his mother, and finally was able to develop some oral communication. Though he often stammered over his words or did not pronounce them properly, Mira showed patience and encouragement along the path. While he struggled with simple tasks such as hunting, he grew comfortable with his disability. However, he always failed in other aspects as a result of his upbringing. His overprotective mother never left his side, and he did not develop proper social skills from interacting with other wolves. It never escaped Aurik's notice that over the months, Mira grew more and more reserved. It was becoming increasingly evident that she was not suited to remain a loner for the duration of her life. And so in an act of selflessness, Aurik parted ways with his mother, encouraging her to find a life apart from him.
And so Aurik wandered alone for many months, never interacting with those around him. At the slightest sign of confrontation, the male turned the other cheek. He could not bear to be judged for his disability, and so he adapted to a life of solitude. It was only when the packs started to move into the northern territories that Aurik realized he would be unable to remain alone forever. In a world such as this, there was no such thing as surviving alone. He could no longer sentence himself to a solitude not much unlike his own silent head anymore. He set off in search of others who would accept a complicated wolf such as himself.
Personality: This socially reclusive male is the definition of awkward and uncomfortable. He has no clear picture of what is expected of him and often takes his social cues from those around him. However, he has an uncanny knack of misinterpreting things. He is just about the sweetest wolf one could ever encounter as all he wants is to be loved and cared about. He is not overly skilled in fighting or hunting as he cannot hear approaching prey or other wolves in combat. However, he is an excellent spy and intel retriever as his ability to read lips allows him to gather information from a distance. He struggles with his sense of self worth as he has never had anyone beyond his mother actually depend on or care for him.
No matter what, Aurik always sees the bright side of a situation. He is ever hopeful and optimistic. Not a single ounce of negativity runs through his blood, and he is the definition of the idea that hate is a learned trait. He sees the good in everybody and always believes them to be honest and true. While this does not necessarily translate to a happy go lucky wolf, he is genuinely pleasant to the core. He craves to feel a bond with someone else, no matter if it is friendship or love; he has difficulty differentiating between these emotions.
