Lani laid there with one eye cracked as Eidus turned back to his meal. He didn’t go without the last word though. “My dear I have eaten things that make you look like a pup don't test me.” He said under his breath. In a snarky tone Lani asked, “Is that a threat? To do what?” She laughed. “What are you going to do? Eat me?” She rolled her eyes, but realized what she had just said. Her muscles shivered nervously but not in fear. She fell silent and considered that fact that her question could have multiple meanings. She already had a taste of what it felt like for him to touch her. The thoughts had a short life span though because as soon as they appeared, she quickly squashed them like bugs. “I didn’t take you for the cannibalistic type,” she said a few beats too late but tried to ignore that fact, even with the moment of awkward silence. Instead, she just continued to bask in the sun, and appeared to be entirely unfazed. She wasn’t about to show Eidus that she was having those kinds of thoughts. She had only just met him and she wasn’t about to scare him away before he had gotten the chance to rest. Besides, they were just random, reactive thoughts. They’d pass. When he had finished the kill, he turned towards her and watched as she relaxed in the sun. She knew he must be watching the blue dance across her pelt but wondered what it was he was thinking. The look in his amber eyes suggested deeper thoughts. Lani was again reminded of the fact that she knew nothing about this male. She didn’t know anything about where he came from or how he had gotten here. She hadn’t known him long enough to know anything about his personality. It left her completely blind as to the way he thought or where his thoughts might be.
She really wished she knew what he was thinking. Because after a few moments of watching her, whatever smile he had carried on his face vanished and he looked away, staring vacantly into the trees. He definitely didn’t seem very happy and he didn’t give her much to work with as to what he could possibly be upset about. Lani knew that he must have come from somewhere. Maybe he had left behind someone important. She knew he was older than she was. Definitely old enough to have met many wolves in his lifetime. God knows he had. Was there another female out there, wondering where he was? Missing him? A part of her wilted at the thought but she just assumed it was because of his pain. She refused to think that it was because someone had already caught his eye. She didn’t like to see others upset. She knew what it was like to miss someone. In all honesty, Lani didn’t hold out any hope of ever making it back. She wouldn’t know where to begin, but she wasn’t going to break that news to Eidus just yet. He looked entirely too downtrodden already. The light filtered down through the trees created strange dappled patterns on his already multicolored fur. It made it look as if the shades in his coat were shifting. That’s when she noticed that he was speaking. No, he's singing. “To let myself change colors with the leaves/Let the wind come shake me down/Deliver me closer to the ground/I made a promise to the moon.” He ended with a heavy sigh.
Lani rolled over onto her stomach and stared at him fixated. He was singing to himself and she had no idea what the relevance the song had to what he was thinking about. She didn’t know the song personally or what the importance was, though she knew that it had some kind of purpose. Eidus didn’t seem like the kind to start absentmindedly singing some random song. Even as she thought this, he hung his head, stared at the ground, and snorted. She could see an internal battle raging, and couldn’t help but watch as he fought. She rested her chin on her paws. She knew the look on his face. He was irritated with himself and though Lani couldn’t be positive, she’d bet it was because he had just caught himself wallowing. Lani often caught herself doing the same thing, but she had her own songs to remind her to keep going. Lani quietly sung to herself. “It’s so damn easy, to say that’s life’s so hard. Everybody’s got their share of battle scars. As for me, I’d like to thank my lucky stars, that I’m alive and well.” She smiled sadly to herself but it grew into a more genuine one as Eidus started singing again. “I’ve starved my days,/I’ve drowned my nights/I’ve run campaigns against the light/I’ve been the liar/I’ve lit the fire.” His voice rose near the end and he sung with more strength and purpose before standing and walking past her. As he did, his gaze raked over her and she swore she could feel the heat of his gaze. He was not shy about the way he looked at her. As soon as he looked away, her muscles quivered. Well, that’s different. Whatever he was just fighting with himself about, something’s changed. Though she wouldn’t say it was necessarily a bad one as she smirked to herself.
Eidus walked over and started stretching on the large log. Lani considered what had just happened. She wasn’t sure what exactly was different about him. He seemed more...sure. Like he had made up his mind about something. He also seemed more confident now, and maybe just a little bit more free. Instead of singing, she spoke the words to a new song, “We carry on, when our lives come undone. We carry one, cause there’s promise in the morning sun. We carry on, as the dark surrenders to the dawn. We were born to overcome.” She shook her head in disbelief. She had never seen a wolf rebound so quickly. She had definitely found a strong one. “Well, I’m glad you’re feeling better.” She chuckled as she watched him stretching on the log. He shot her a grin and said, “Well my dear Lalani once I have gotten some rest how about we go on an adventure?” She froze for a second. Well, it seems that I have my answer. I guess he’ll be coming with. Sitting up and turning to him, she quoted, “Well, we’re such a long way from home, Let’s dance in this universe unknown.” She hadn’t had any distinct plans, other than heading north. She was curious to hear if Eidus had any plans. Smiling, she asked, “What kinds of adventures did you have in mind? I was heading north when I had to stop and save your hide.” Lani chuckled and she wondered what kinds of things they’d end up doing, or what kinds of places they’d see. In a random burst of excited energy, she rolled over onto her back, her legs and tail flailing in the air. She was much happier than she thought she’d be at not having to be alone. She laughed freely and pawed at the air in her excitement when she realized that, duh, she wasn’t alone. She froze mid movement and her eyes turned to Eidus, looking at him upside down, he tongue dangling out one side of her mouth. Suddenly embarrassed, Lani rolled back over and tucked her nose under her tail to hide her face. Wow. Did you really just do that? He totally just saw you acting like a moron. She barely breathed, afraid of what he was going to say. It had been so much fun though. Lani hadn’t been able to act that carefree in a very long time. She let out a sigh and hoped that if she stayed that way, that maybe he’d just head to bed.
