The alpha of Airila paused at the main entrance to the dens, which overlooked a broad rocky valley with steep mountainous walls flanking both sides. The avalanche which had eroded the place had occurred many years ago, but some debris still remained amongst the more obvious large boulders and slabs of rock littered across the valley floor. To one of these Toiro went now. It was his favourite in the little valley, an enormous flattish rock with plenty of room for several wolves to sit together; the perfect place for a pack meeting.
The reason why he intended to call for a gathering today was not only because the pack hadn’t had one in a while, but because he wanted to be proactive about encouraging the members to interact with one another and hopefully form friendships as a result. His packmates needed to have a chance to meet each other before they could begin to form the bonds which had once made Airila such a tightly knit pack. Of course, even now they were still substantially more friendly towards each other than some packs were, but there was certainly room for improvement. Toiro wanted Airila to be a family, where every wolf was appreciated for his or her strengths, and where every wolf would protect and aid those around them out of loyalty rather than by being pressured to by a domineering alpha.
In order to truly fit in, they needed a purpose to allow them to contribute and feel useful to the pack. All wolves were valued in Airila, but to Toiro the subordinate rank was only supposed to be temporary, to give new members time to adjust to their new life and decide what they preferred to specialise in.
So the large grey wolf planted his paws firmly on the rock, swung his body weight forward, and raised his muzzle to the sky to announce a pack meeting. Once his long howl had died away, the alpha relaxed and lowered himself into a resting position on the smooth stone surface to await a reply to his call. It was a fine day today – the clouds lurking above having decided that they would not be releasing their load of snow upon the chilly northern territory – so the wolves of Airila would likely be spread out across the land. That being the case, he did not expect the entire pack to come, but he hoped that at least a few wolves would take the opportunity to gain the ranks they deserved.
((OOC: This meeting is not compulsory for those who do not want their wolves to get a higher rank - meaning hunter or warrior or gatherer - but anyone is still welcome ^^))
