If Calantha had thought she’d remain dry for the remainder of the evening, she was horribly wrong; the rain poured down from the heavens so suddenly that she gasped, immediately soaked to the bone. Auron’s remark prompted a laugh to bubble from between her teeth as she padded along beside him, silently appreciative of his accommodating gate. The sky above them had darkened swiftly, but in the distance she could faintly make out the shapes of the cave openings through the rain. At Auron’s offered apology Calantha flicked her ears dismissively, shaking her head as she smiled. ”It’s not your fault. The weather here is so fickle I’ve found. Izsyn must love this continent.”
Finally they reached the caverns, ducking inside as thunder boomed far above. It was spacious enough to accommodate both of them, and after Calantha had paused to try and lick some of the water from her pelt, she settled against the wall opposite to Auron. The shared heat between them would fill the space soon enough; already the chill was fading slowly but surely from her bones. It was a wonderful change from sleeping beneath the shelter of trees.
Once more their conversation turned to the gods, and Calantha nodded her head in agreement with Auron’s words. ”Many of them had gods that they favored and relied on more than the others. For my mother, for example, it was always Amenta – goddess of healing. For the warriors it was typically the more battle-oriented ones.” She smiled at the memory, her tail swaying slowly behind her. It had been some time since she’d been able to freely and comfortably discuss her past with another. Outside lightening illuminated the sky as she lay quietly considering. After a moment her saffron gaze slid back towards Auron, ears pricked forward with curiosity.
”Do you believe in any deities?” She asked. She was fully aware that different wolves believed in different things, and some not at all. She would not judge him for whatever answer he provided regardless. The last thing that the femme had expected to find during her travels had been a friend, and yet already Auron was proving to be a godsend, his easy demeanor and kind words providing a comfort that Calantha had not experienced since fleeing her homeland. Eventually she would have to part from him, but Calantha was certain that it would not be the last time she saw him. Of that, she was fiercely determined.
