Avariella could't bring herself to relax. Relaxing now would go against practically everything she feared in life. But she wanted to trust him. He had suffered just as she had, though maybe even worse. They were outcasts together, she supposed, and she had to trust that he wouldn't just kill her. He had no reason to. Her pack... Well perhaps they had jealousy and rage that she had gotten everything they had all wanted by simply just being born. But this male... Kade... He had no reason to kill her. And truly, if she thought about her fear -the fear of dying by the paws of someone you trust- it was truly not that terrible. Everyone had to die at some point. And perhaps dying was the better option. Not that she wanted to die by any means, but at least in death, she wouldn't remember the betrayal. If she were attacked and lived, like she had with her pack, the betrayal would stay with her. Maybe it was this that she was afraid of. Being attacked by someone trusted and living to remember what they had done. In truth, Avariella couldn't really describe what she was afraid of. She was just afraid of strangers... And trusting. But she had to trust again. She had to start placing her trust in others because if she didn't, she would die sooner than she expected. Already, she was thin. If it continued, she would die of starvation or by being attacked by a predator. She had to place at least some trust into this wolf. She had to let him be a companion.

Could she have found a better companion? Surely not. Muscular, handsome, seemingly kind... She could learn to live with him. She could learn to trust him. His words reached her ears, and she shook her head, glancing up at him. "No... I know... I know... Please... Keep pushing. It's okay. I have to learn to trust, and the more we spend time... Close... The better." She explained, nodding softly. Truthfully, though it made her nervous as hell and tense up, she liked the fact that he pushed the boundaries. It would break her into being trusting quicker than if he just gave her her space. The more gentle touches he gave, the more confident she would become that he would not hurt her. More words filtered from the brute's mouth, and she nodded softly. Promises... So easily broken... But if kept, they could create so much trust. The female was quiet for a moment, and then, very hesitantly, she stretched her muzzle out slowly, moving to gently press her nose into the fur of his neck. She breathed in deeply once before pulling back, looking away. While her mind had forgotten the season, her body had not, though she desperately hoped that it wouldn't affect the male. She would never want to bring pups into a living situation like the one they had. "I will hunt for us... We'll be stronger together..." The first part was her promise to him like he had promised her. The second part was more of her trying to convince herself that this was for the better. "Where... Where should we go? Surely you didn't plan to live in a desert forever..."

Kade was pleased that she didn't demand he back off when he pressed his body next to hers. With each passing moment he began to think of her as more and more his. Making her more comfortable with him was something that he considered inevitable. As the time passed she would have to accept that he needed to be close to her. That he craved the feeling of his fur meshing with hers. It had been months since he had had a companion, someone he could really just relax and enjoy. Instead he had been wandering this foul desert for far to long with no destination in mind. "It isn't just you, Avariella. I need this. I haven't been able to be close to anyone in too long." He took a deep calming breath trying to keep his own emotions under control. His instincts were pushing him to return to his almost unconscious state. They wanted to be in control again. If he lost himself in the haze again there would be no telling when he would reemerge. Avariella was counting on him so he refused to sink back into the nothingness that his mind offered him. He wanted to be aware of everything now that his life was going to be changing. "I am not normal Ava, my mind and my body are constantly fighting for control, but I can't stop the storm inside. This is how I live and I need you to be able to accept me." If she rejected him now after his mind was set on having her he had no idea what would happen. All he knew was that he needed her to be his friend, else he go back to his mindless wanderings. He wouldn't survive on auto-pilot for much longer.



Kade had no idea where they should go. He had been travelling to the east with River, trying to find some new pack that was forming. After River had disappeared he had lost the motivation to keep going. Eventually news had reached him that the pack had never even been created so it would have been an inevitable failure. He did want to get out of this desert, remaining only as a punishment for losing River. He couldn't travel to a better place without her, not when her life was probably over. How could he move on without remembering that he had left her behind. Avariella gave him a renewed sense of purpose, a new person to protect. This time he was determined to do better. He had intended to make River his mate as soon as the breeding season had come about, but with Avariella he just desperately needed some kind of kinship. Someone he could talk to and sit with until he was well enough to let her go. "I honestly don't remember where I was going. These last few months have been nothing but a blur."

Ava knew that she would eventually just have to let herself relax around Kade. Really, she probably could have in that moment if her mind wouldn't keep dragging her back to the horrible memory of looking up at the ones she loved as she was swept away down the river. As the memory once more flew through her mind, the female slowly glanced up at Kade. Her eyes looked over his face for only a moment before she looked away again. Would he be the same as her old family had been? Would she find herself looking up at him as he left her to die? That thought was what kept her distant from him. Maybe one day, she would be able to appear relaxed though she didn't trust him... Or maybe he would prove that placing your trust in someone could be okay. For now, though, she was just going to have to live in fear and distrust. She looked down at the ground as he spoke before slowly looking out across the desert. "We will help each other... It will be best for both of us, I'm sure..." She said softly, still trying to convince herself more than she was trying to convince him. She didn't know for sure if she would be able to trust this male, but she wanted to. As Typhon had told her, living on her own was a dangerous thing... It truly was amazing that she had managed to live as long as she had on her own. But now... She had Kade to travel with her, and he would hopefully prove to be a nice traveling companion.

Ava's ears flicked towards Kade's voice as he spoke again, and she gave a soft wag of her tail at his confession. "None of us are normal, Kade... Normal really just... Doesn't exist," She replied softly, flicking her amber eyes in his direction for a split second before looking away again. It was true. Every wolf had a problem, and the more they tried to pretend to be normal, the more problems they usually had. Ava's eyes looked up at the sky to see the sun had dropped quite a bit since she had last looked up at it. It was getting late, but Ava had been traveling at night through the desert since it seemed to get so warm during the day... Though nighttime brought the cold, so Ava wasn't really sure which she liked better. Slowly, the female lowered her body to the ground to lie beside the male wolf, leaning her body towards him rather than away from him. She was making an effort to force herself to trust him, but she wasn't sure that it was working all that well. At least she was trying, though. She listened to him speak once more, and she frowned slightly. She had been hoping that he would know of a place they could go... "We could... Head north? I'm not sure what else is around the island. I've been through the Oriens and Acerbus... And had to pass through Kamari to get there. But I know there's land north of there..." Ava shook her head, not sure where she wanted to go now. "I don't know..." She sighed and looked ahead again, frowning. "And you don't have to call be Avariella... Ava is fine."

Kade was pleased that she felt comfortable enough with him to allow him the liberty of shortening her name. Ava was much easier to say than her full name, despite how beautiful it was. When she laid down beside him he could see her weight shifted towards him instead of away from him. That was enough to have him grinning in male satisfaction. To be honest he was very happy to have come out of his stupor and stumble upon her. In just the few moments they had spent getting to know each other, he was not filled with renewed hope. He was determined to do better for her. She was so skinny laying next to him that all he wanted to do was find something for her to eat. Feeding the two of them would be a hard task for her to do on their own. He knew he was a very poor student, but all the same he would learn if it meant making a better life for Avariella. He would learn to fight and hunt, even if he had to teach himself. Kade wanted so badly to be worthy of her friendship. She had skill at hunting, fighting, everything that he failed at. No he was determined to do his best to prove to Avariella that she belonged with him, forever.



Kade had never travelled to the north, but a part of him felt the rush of excitement at visiting a new place. It had been far too long since he had left the sands of the desert, and he was tired of them. The lack of food and water was enough to drive anyone crazy, ignoring the fact that Kade was already crazy. When Avariella explained that no one was normal Kade couldn't help but cringe. He knew that he was something far beyond the realm of normalcy. From what he could see normal wolves weren't a split between mind and instinct. Normal people didn't have to make an effort everyday just to keep himself from slinking back into the abyss. No he wasn't normal in the way that everyone else was, only tie would open her eyes to his irregularities. "We can go wherever you would like. I have never strayed far from this particular area, but I have lingered far too long, Ava." The sound of her shortened name on his lips only made him grin more. We are going to be happy together. I will make sure of it.

The day seemed to be going in a positive direction. So far, Ava hadn't died, and she was feeling less and less like she was going to. She was battling herself at this point, trying to trust the male beside her, but knowing that she would never be able to fully let herself trust him... At least not this soon in their relationship. But he seemed kind enough. And she wasn't going to make him jealous like she had her pack. He would be someone to talk to, and she assumed that the fact that she would have to feed him would motivate her to hunt for the both of them. Recently, she had found that her energy level was not quite as high as it had been when she was in a pack and well fed. She had grown very thin, and it definitely showed as she laid beside him. Her hips stuck out horribly, but she supposed that she hadn't really realized how thin she was getting. It was easier, she knew, to lose weight than to put it on, especially traveling as much as she had the previous few months. Against all of her wishes, she knew that joining a pack would probably be best... Or at least finding a place where she could contently stay. In all honesty, the second option was what she preferred, but she was unsure of what Kade would want. Of course, she supposed that she could always leave him, but she wasn't sure if she would want to once she had grown to trust him.

“Wherever I would like?” She smiled softly, shaking her head a little. She had almost hoped that he would decided where he wanted to go, and she would just follow behind. “I don't know... The north I know has many packs... The east has a territory that has not been claimed... Perhaps we go north just to explore what is up there, then head back south to that territory if we don't find somewhere to stay before then...” She replied with a small shrug. She wasn't sure where she wanted to go. Really, she would have wanted to just head right over to the unclaimed territory, but she had sensed the excitement from him as soon as she spoke of going north. She was fine with heading north again. She wanted to explore the island and pick a place to reside after she had seen all of her options. She just hoped that Kade would agree with her choice. Of course, she wasn't sure if he was looking to join a pack or not. “Did... Well... Were you wanting to join a pack?” She asked almost nervously, flicking her ears towards him as she looked out over the desert. She needed to know so that she knew if she was going to have to eventually leave him.
