History:
The air that day had felt wonderful shifting through the thick coat that had sustained her through the frozen season. The deep winter that had seized the Yellowstone park for all those months had finally released its icy grip from the land. New life was in abundance, both in animal and in plant. It was a harsh land, not for the weak or faint of heart. But Aztec and her family were born to endure the hardships. Their grandparents had been specifically selected to repopulate the area with wolves. And populate it they had. Descendants of the one known as ‘Black Wolf’, so dubbed by the humans who would occasionally show up and track them, a rogue who had snuck around laying his claim to many females of many packs only to run off when the alphas discovered his liaisons with their female. He was a legend. Still he passed on his hardy endurance, keen intelligence, and pure luck to his offspring, and to the lucky few who grew up in his shadow they would learn from him.
Aztec had loved her life there, despite the mischief that lived in her heart, mischief that often left her beloved brother at his wits end trying to keep her safe from harm. But she was no delicate flower, and she wished he would see that. She was strong and true, as wild as the wind playing across the vast ruggedness of the mountain terrain. It was true she was not the warrior he was, her knight in shining armour, instead her skills lay in the hunt. Sleek and swift as an arrow, it was the hunt that thrilled her, left her blood flowing, and heart racing for the pure simple joy of the chase. She was known as a closer, once her jaws were locked around their preys throat, those powerful jaws of hers would not release until the beast took his last shuddering breath. That was her position, while others wore the creature out she would end their lives. But despite this position she held such a sunny disposition it was hard for any to look ill at her, or stay angry for long, especially when she would go out of her way to bring happiness to the lives of her loved ones. That still didn’t mean she had to fall in line and conform to what they always said.
And that’s exactly what brought her out there alone that fateful day, later she would reflect on her foolishness, would despise herself for the choice she had made that day. A quarrel with her brother had ended with her bolting from the pack lands, reckless, thoughtless. To this day she still did not recall what that argument had been about but it had driven her from the safety of the Park into the lands man claimed for their precious cattle. She had never intended to take one of the taboo creatures’, she had merely observed them from the rise of a tall hill that over looked the herd. She hadn’t been aware the humans were present that day up wind from her location observing their herds. Was never aware when she had been spotted, so lost in her own anger and thoughts that she hadn’t be aware of the danger until it had been almost too late. Argent had been the one to save her, his sudden unexpected voice had her turning at the right moment, for where she had once stood a puff of dirt and grass was thrown forward, the clap of thunder from the rifle echoing across the expanse of earth. Cringing away from the sound, the spray of dirt, and what it meant she fled, racing to her brother’s side, where together they had run.
It had not ended there, several days later the whirling sound of a helicopters blade filled their territory, catching both Argent and herself in the open, the sting of a dart in her rump had her crumpling screaming out for Argent. Had she not called for him in her fright he might have kept running, might not have been drawn into her folly. But her cry had caused him to turn, caused the dart that would have otherwise missed him to slam into his shoulder. Then everything went black.
The next few days had been giant ball of haze and confusion, from one human exam into another, more tranqs, more sedatives. She whined for her brother, cried out in the darkness, seeking his comfort but finding nothing. It wasn’t until the low rumble of jet engines pulled her from that hated place of half wakefulness but incomprehensible confusion that she became fully aware of something being vastly different, wrong, in every sense of the word. In the belly of a cargo plane is where she woke, her first instinct, a voice hoarse and broken from the drugs called for her brother. To her greatest relief and complete sorrow his blessed voice had risen to calm her.
The hours ticked by, the silence was oppressive, and a false calm had over taken the panic that had flooded the females’ heart when her brother had begun explaining their situation, taken, from their home, from their pack, coldly examined and enroute to a zoo on the other side of the world. She knew what he thought, but did not voice. It was her fault, had she never left their territory, had she never so blatantly left herself open to human view…had he never come to fetch her…he would not be here, none of this would have happen. But she had broken the cardinal rule, never cross into human lands, never let them see you, and never ever be cause close to their precious cattle. Riddled with guilt she said nothing beyond the soft mournful whisper, “I’m sorry…”
But that was not where their journey ended. Fate would have another path in store for these two, a flock of gulls, clueless to the danger flew headlong into the cargo plane, while under normal circumstances this was not enough to cause problems for ‘newer jets’ but this was an old poorly serviced aircraft, and the broken bodies of the gulls were just enough to damage the engines rotary blades causing them to warp. Eventually ending in an explosion, the plane was destined to crash, off the shores of Africa. Despite the danger and imminent death a single human took a moment to throw a switch, opening the cargo hatch, giving the various animals, the two wolves included a chance for survival.
Their crates shattered upon impact throwing the wolves into chaos, and again even as the water swallowed her she thought she felt the grip of strong fangs buried in the thick scruff at the back of her neck the instance before the darkness claimed her once again. How long did she drift in that darkness she never knew, but when she woke, those sea encrusted eyes slowly cracked open to a sight that sent her into panic. Her brothers still form on a long endless beach. Everything fled and she threw herself towards him, half crawling, half dragging herself to his side calling his name. That dry cracked tongue had lavished his face, muzzle nuzzling. “Wake up brother…wake up!” She would demand over and over until finally…he did. She had not bothered to look around, had not noticed they were washed ashore of an island, her entire being caught in grief, guilt, and terror at the sight of her brothers still form. Even now she did not realize that this was the start of a new life, in a land unknown.
Personality:
Sun. This simple word could be used to describe this beauty, bright, and warm with a fiercely burning love of life deep inside that heart of hers. Although to the outward appearances she has a naive out look on life, often rebellious, she could very well become a pawful if rubbed the wrong way. Outspoken, and defiant against the injustices of the world, Aztec is much like her beloved brother in this sense. Loyalty remains unwavering, commitment, and determination follow her every step once she's decided on a path to walk. One would be hard pressed to divert her from her chosen course once the decision has been made. And woe to any who would attempt to supress her spirit. With a sarcastic wit that shields an unfathomable kindness she treads life with little regret.
But even in the brightest of suns there lays a bit of darkness, and hers lays in the form of jealousy. Though this trait rarely rears it's ugly head it does pop up at the most inopportune moments. Terrified of loosing her beloved brother she secretly loaths any female that may get close to him. For he is her knight, everything that she admires. For her he represents all that is good in this world, and the strength, loyalty, and integrity he shows in order to maintain that goodness. It is a side of herself she despises with every fiber of her being for it brings her nothing but shame.
