The ebony, malnourished femme wandered away from the plateau, happy to be out in the fresh air once again. Perhaps catching some fish to snack on would be just what she needed. And sleep, of course, she thought, the slightest smile curving across her maw. Her time-worn paws pounded against the ground as she trotted towards the water's edge. She had never been skilled at hunting, but at least she could catch some fish. They were an easy target, as they could not run far from her daunting jaws.
Staring down into the glassy water, Abyss blinked, spying her own reflection in the liquid. What she saw was not very appealing; her face was missing patches of fur that had fallen out from stress and lack of food. Her eyes were much duller than before, as she had felt sick for quite some time. Her maw... The whiskers that usually twitched with each movement around her were limp and unfeeling; perhaps that was the reason she had been lacking in her hunting abilities. Without the proper food to nourish her, she had not maintained a very good balance. Her senses had dulled when hunger overtook her mind. Now she had a chance to change this.
Her brown orbs stared silently into the glassy lake, watching the movements and patterns of the fish not far beneath the surface. With a quick jerk of her head, Abyss snapped an average-sized fish beneath her jaws. She nearly lost the wriggling, lackluster-scaled fish as it jerked back and forth, but as she clamped her jaws into its flesh, it finally stopped moving.
Finally, something to sooth her hungry stomach. The femme gulped down the fish in one quick movement, feeling the coarse texture of its flesh slide down her throat. She could feel it fall into her stomach, something that hadn't happened in quite some time. This fish seemed to fill her with energy. It wasn't instant, by any means, but it was enough to bring some of the shine back into her orbs. She lifted her hind leg to scratch at an itch near the base of her neck. As she did so, she was surprised to feel her paw touch fur, not the scaly skin that normally showed near her neck. She, apparently, had started to grow back some of her fur since she'd arrived at Salen.
A smile, one of the first full ones in a while, crept across her maw. Now she could go about her business again. The femme snapped at the water over a dozen more times. By the time she had finished here, she had gathered about five average-sized fish. They definitely weren't the greatest in the lake, but it was something Abyss was proud of. She gulped down two of the fish on the spot, and she was determined to keep the other three around. But for now, she wasn't heading back to the dens. She would hang around near the lake's shore for a while. The fresh air was doing wonders for her, even if the air was filled with an eerie mist.
