This is more peaceful, the she-wolf thought as she walked one paw after the other. Her off white fur took in the colors of her surroundings turning dark greens and a mysterious black. The sun sat high in the sky, but from down here you could swear it was night. Most wolves feared these woods, knowing of the spirits of the wolves who once walked its land. Rayne was not one of them. No fear gripped her heart or turned her brown eyes wide. She looked as calm as ever as she leapt over the fallen logs and branches. Her ears pricked up she looked around ever corner, investigating ever noise, and smelling every plant.
Rayne feeling a bit tired decided then to take shelter under a large pine tree. Around the base of the trunk was a large bush, one in which she could lay in. Squeezing her body inside she sat there and eyed a single rock which was placed parallel from her maw. Rayne smiled at the rock and touched its cold surface with her warm moist nose. Then breathing on it Rayne lifted her head up and said ,"Hello Spirit." If anyone could see her now, they would find it odd how she was speaking to a rock. What was even more odd was that the rock spoke back. Rayne you see could speak to the spirits of nature, and everything in nature had a spirit. Rayne sat and listened to the rock. Its words were very low and crisp telling her stories of the humans and the wolf spirits who once inhabited the lands. She listened intently showing her respect for the rock and its wisdom. The rock then began to speak of a pack leader, one with a silver mark. This interested Rayne most off all, for her goal was to find a new pack since hers was brutally murdered by her own brother.
Once the rock had finished speaking Rayne thanked it by placing her nose on its smooth cold surface. Then pulling away from the rock she made her way out of the den and glanced around. She had to meet this silver marked wolf and fast. The only problem was Rayne had no idea how to contact the marked one. She sat and allowed her tail to move from side to side. Closing her eyes she waited, and waited, and waited. Rayne waited for a sound, praying that a spirit would tell her what to do.
The silence stretched on for a long period of time. The sun had begun to fall reaching halfway down the sky, but still not close enough for it to be dusk. With her ears still up Rayne listened and finally a loud howl rang out. Her eyes blinked open and everything in the forest was silent. "I must howl." she realized picking herself up from the forest floor. She pulled her head back and a long but gentle howl echoed from her maw making the forest seem alive with life. Rayne then stood up on her hind legs and howled once again this time letting the sound grow much louder. When she was finished she placed her front legs back down and stood there, praying the marked one would hear her call and come.
"Lead the Marked One here." she whispered while placing her body gently back on the forest floor.
