Exodus was not her father and Meridian was not a princess. She was the bastard child of a madman and the false heir to a pack that had fallen apart. And yet she splashed on as if nothing at all in her life had changed. In some ways nothing really had changed at all. Lies are like parasites. They feast on the good and the innocent and they grow. They grow and evolve and until they become an engorged, repulsive, lump of fat that can no longer be ignored. And then they explode. They suck up too much truth and pop, raining sticky fragments of their tangled web onto the heads of all involved. And then the truth is out and everything is ruined. Everything is ruined to the point of being unrepairable and nothing can go back to the way it was. Her surrogate father had left. Her true father had vanished. Her brothers were gone. Her mother was dying. And yet Meridian seemed unaffected on a surface level. Her face contained no lines of misery or jade green eyes sparkling with tears. If anything, her expression was amused. Her ears were perked, tail wagging, and her tongue lolled lightly out of her mouth as she batted playfully at minnows and other small fish. She looked exactly like the overgrown pup that she was, a white coat of purity hiding the unstable creature beneath. The yearling had been hit harder than anyone could have guessed by the disbanding of her "happy little family." Her mind had never been a stable place, in truth. It teetered on the edges of sanity, creating the illusion of an innocent around the body of a monster. Though Meridian had never been one to form close bonds, always slinking off on her own, she had come to expect the company of her relatives, her pack. So when they all left, she demanded their return. Except that they did not answer her calls and left her only with delusions for company. Now, Meri didn't like that one bit. At first it turned her hostile and she would scream into the early hours of the morning. Her frustrations were taken out on her prey and the lack of guidance and structure had turned her into a real beast of a little girl. Age managed to humble her a bit though. She had always had the teachings, the knowledge, to function in the real world. She had just never bothered to apply it because she'd had a pack and family to keep her safe. Slowly but surely, however, the lessons with Exodus began to pull themselves from her memory. Her subconscious prodded and pulled until the etiquette of survival was once again at the forefront of her thoughts. Meridian's thoughts had never been what most would call normal, however. They were irregular and broken, driven by whim rather than reason and so easily distractible, too easily distractible. The memories that became her guidebook were twisted into a rather perverse form. And that little purple dragonfly that forever danced on the edges of her vision alone was the one who encouraged it all. It was the one who skewed her former teachings, the one who twisted her world views. It was the reason she batted at these fish with the intent to kill rather than to it. It was why she viewed strangers as toys to be mocked. It was why she still lived happily in the lands of her family, seemingly forgotten among the rubble and yet untainted by it all. The young, white, mixed-breed female always listened to her dragonfly with rapt attention. It could tell her nothing wrong; it would not lead her astray. In fact, if she did not listen it was only then that bad things would happen! She had proof of this too! The day that Salen fell apart she had chosen not to listen to her dragonfly friend. The resulting events, therefore, must have been a prime example of cause and effect. Circumstance and coincidence were out of the realm of possibility. At the moment she was listening. At the moment she was playing. At the moment... she was happy.

[Angel]

Angel slinked through the undergrowth, intent on catching the squirrel perching on a low branch maybe a couple of metres ahead of her. Her stunning blue eyes were locked onto the little creature, watching its every move. Slowly, she sneaked closer to her prey. It hadn’t noticed the danger yet. With its back to her, and with the way the wind was blowing, it would be lucky if it sensed her before she was biting its little neck.
Angel licked her lips in anticipation of the meal. God, she was so hungry. With her poor hunting skills she hadn’t been able to catch a deer, so she had settled for smaller creatures like rabbits and fish. The frogs around here tasted good too, although they were a bit slimy.

Now she was right behind the little squirrel. Angel pushed off with her hind legs with as much energy as she could muster, closing the remaining distance between her and her prey in one giant leap. Her jaws snapped shut around the head of the little animal, ending its life quickly and painlessly. Damn. Angel dropped the limp body and stared at it in dismay. A soft whine escaped from her maw. Now who was she going to play with? Prey was no fun to play with once it was dead. Angel reluctantly picked up the carcass and started heading back towards the little base she had set up near the border of the old pack lands.

On her more direct route back, she passed close to Drarynough. She hadn’t been there in a while because she was scared of the strange mists that swirled across the water. But now she found herself dangerously close to the area. She crouched down into a hunting position so the evil spirits wouldn’t see her. All of her senses went on high alert. Angel jumped as a faint sound reached her ears. Splashing? Were the evil spirits coming to get her? She waited frozen in the undergrowth for a minute or two, straining her ears to pick up the sound.

Finally, Angel’s curiosity got the better of her. She began creeping closer, closer, closer, still with the squirrel clamped firmly in her jaws. Cautiously, she peered out from between two tree trunks and peered down at the shore of the lake.

Her body relaxed visibly as she recognised the figure playing in the water.
“Hey! Meri! Meri! ‘member me?” she cried out happily as she bounded down the gentle slope towards her friend. She dropped the squirrel on the ground as she raced into the lake to join the other wolf, forgetting completely her fears about the evil spirits that were said to lurk in the waters of Drarynough.

His interest was piqued; the land had worn scent markers, and it was obvious that wolves still wandered here. But that also brought him a sense of satisfaction. This was the blank slate that he had searched for. Here, right in front of him, was an area that appeared just as eerie and unnerving as he sometimes made others feel. There was a world of possibilities for him, and it was going to start here. Vorilye's golden muzzle pointed toward the sky, and he emitted a long, drawn out howl that sung of his claim on the lands. There were no words spoken, yet the nature of his cry was obvious. He would dwell here, start a new life here, and leave what he had known before behind. Descai. Perfectly suits this land of despair and its dismal alpha, he thought with a slight chuckle to himself. It was dry and void of humor, but it was an expression that he had not bothered to use in quite some time. It was a step in the right direction, and he was, for the first time in a long time, content with himself. There was much that would need to be done, but he could handle it. After all, this would not be Vorilye's first pack to lead. Hopefully, this time he would not be overthrown by those of his own flesh and blood. There were many of them wandering out there, however, and any wolf could potentially be a threat to his newfound position. The brute strode through the trees, marking his pack's boundaries with ease and dedication. There would be no doubt that this territory belonged to Vorilye, as the scent eminated from all directions. No wolf could set foot in Acerbus without knowing that it was a pack land. Therefore, Vorilye would show trespassers no mercy. He was tired of the bull shit. These wolves would learn, and they would learn fast. This is my home, and damn it, I'm in control here, he thought, his lip pulled back as he growled softly. There was no wolf around that would dare to challenge him if he made himself clear. As the new alpha wandered back toward the center of his terra, the scent of strange wolves flooded his nostrils. Now, he was wise enough to know that these wolves were likely here before he had placed his claim, and by merely approaching them, they should realize the situation. He knew that many wolves would be wise and flee the lands once the howl reached their ears, but obviously these two did not care or were oblivious to what they could potentially confront. Vorilye drew near to the water, his golden eyes falling upon two females. One was but a yearling, which would explain her ignorance to the brute's cry. The other, however, was not much younger than himself. In fact, she appeared to be fully grown and thus not free of his murder-filled demeanor. The brute approached the femmes with a sour look, watching their bodies carefully for any signs of aggression toward him. He would not tolerate insubordination. Vorilye's posture reflected that of a dominant alpha. Any wolf would be insane to not see him as a threat; to the two females, he stood nearly a foot higher, not to mention his sheer muscular build that would likely not intimidate another male, but to a female, it was beyond dangerous. He was older, wiser, and had plenty of experience dealing with lone wolves. He paused a mere ten years from the two, watching and waiting for whatever reaction would come. Time would only tell. Unlike a common alpha, the brute did not verbally announce his presence. If they had not scented his approach or heard him prior to the moment, they would feel his presence. It was difficult to ignore; the entire direction of a conversation could shift with his arrival. He was so difficult to read, yet he allowed others to flounder in misfortune until someone bothered to address him and manage to coax a response. The mackenzie valley wolf up north had only managed to provoke a short sentence from him. These femmes would be hard pressed to promote conversation unless they expressed interest in joining his regime. Vorilye was not in the mood to be messed with, and he would make it abundantly obvious.

The light spoke of early morning, the usual time she woke up after the scene the night before. A slight breeze ruffled her fur, but that was to be expected as well. The wolf didn’t even bother taking a breath over her scent glands. There was nothing on these breezes. She allowed her eyelids to flutter close, hiding the piercing grey orbs. The wolf groaned and leaned onto her side to bask in the light she knew would give no heat. An ear flicked as a bird called out a greeting to the sun. Wait. Birds? The wolf opened her eyes again and leaped to her feet. For the first time, she took a deep breath, analyzing the story on the wind. Every scent was new. Slowly, the wolf turned in a circle, taking everything in. To one side, there was a long drop to the largest amount of water she’d ever seen in her entire life. To the other: land. Land as far as she could see. There was no walls of solid color that she couldn’t get past, no reflective surfaces that had strange figures on the other side. For a moment, Alanna was dumbstruck. She couldn’t remember the last time she had seen a true sky and so stared at it for long moments. A rumble sounded from somewhere within the wolf’s bodice. Quickly, she recognized it as her stomach grumbling at a lack of food. Alanna couldn’t remember the last time she had been hungry either. For what seemed like an eternity, a hole had opened at the edge of her ‘territory’ and a piece of raw meat, usually cold, had been tossed in. Instinctively, the wolf re-analyzed the scents carried to her by the wind. True wind. The she-wolf’s tail wagged. Wind. Birds. Prey. Freedom. Alanna yipped with happiness for the first time in over a year. A scent caught her attention. Deer? she thought. A lone would could rarely pull a healthy deer down on her own. No, Alanna would have to search for smaller prey. Following her nose, Alanna set off inland. Within moments, she came across a better scent: rabbit. Though she would need speed, it would be far easier to bring down a rabbit than it would’ve been to bring down a deer. And, since she was only one wolf, if she could manage two decent sized rabbits, she would be fairly well fed. Moments later, the wolf came across her prey. Settling into a hunter’s crouch made her muscles burn. She gritted her teeth, ignoring the pain. Being out of practice was no excuse. Slowly, the wolf moved forward on silent paws. The rabbit was upwind and immersed in whatever it was munching on. Alanna took a step, and another step, and another. When she thought she was in range, hindquarters bunched, creating a living spring. At just the right moment, the wolf bounded forward. Or at least, she had thought it was the right moment. Before she had moved more than a few inches, the rabbit was gone. Alanna didn’t even land where the rabbit had been. She was at least a tail-length off the mark. The wolf blinked for a moment and sat down...hard. That kill should’ve been easy. A yearling could do it with no problem. Alanna was furious with herself. Turning, she sought another source of prey. Within moments she found it in the form of a large and lumbering bird. She crouched, stalked, attacked and achieved the exact same result. The process was repeated. Then repeated again. The wolf lost track of time even as the sun moved across the sky while she failed to bring down even the easiest of meals. All the while, her anger mounted. What good was a wolf who couldn’t hunt? She could feel the muscles in her legs and back and jaws. They were doing nothing for her. If she couldn’t bring down something to eat, she would die. Suddenly, a howl split the air. Alanna’s entire body shivered, and her hackles instinctively rose. She was no acutely away that she had crossed no scent markers. This hadn’t been pack land moments before. However, as far as that howl would reach, a claim was laid. The voice was unmistakably male, and sounded as if there was enough dominance behind it that he was truly an alpha. Alanna’s tail automatically became perpendicular to the ground, saluting the sun. Proud dome came up and a challenge issued from her eyes. She turned toward the sound, not one to back down from even a potential fight. Before she moved, though, Alanna took stock of her physical condition. Frankly, if she didn’t find something to drink, her strength would fade. The wolf growled at the stupidity of it and tasted the air. There was a source of water toward the dominant male and slightly to the right. She set off toward the water at a brisk trot her kind could manage for hours. When the she-wolf reached the lake, she circumnavigated the beach, staying in the shadows. The sight she came upon took her breath away and set her hackles back up. Two wolves, both female, frolicked in the shallows and a male, obviously the same that had issued the claiming howl, stood not far from them on the beach, his entire form radiating dominance. Alanna’s lips curled back and she stepped slowly out of the shadows, moving close enough to hear the strangers. Her heart leapt toward the prospect of company, much as it had for the past year whenever a new wolf had been introduced to her. At the same time, her aversion to anything that reminded her of her old life caused everything within her to scream danger. The singsong rhyme repeated itself in her mind as she played in the water, accented softly by a few verbal giggles. Not far from where she splashed about lay a slowly growing pile of dying fish. From time to time one would manage to flop its way back into the water but for the most part the tiny beings were left to suffer in misery while the young female had her fun. At some point she did actually plan on catching a more substantial fish for a meal, but for now she was quite content to cause an excess of waste. Until Angel showed up... Meridian had heard Angle long before she saw her, but the other wolf had failed to truly register in her mind. She ignored the presence instead of investigate it. As such, when Angel called out the young female was thoroughly confused. That wasn't the voice of her beloved illusion. It matched not her mother or fathers or siblings. As far as she knew it wasn't one of the old pack at all. For a long moment her playing ceased altogether. She stood there, joint deep in cold water, green eyes fixed on a wolfess she'd met only once before. There was something vaguely familiar about the other white female, but she could not seem to place it. Not until a howl curled over the territory. It was not the same sort of howl used to summon Exodus that day she and Angle had played together. This howl was deep, more authoritative. But it served well to jog her memory and Meri's tail wagged, head nodding once at Angel before turning to watch the direction of the claiming call. Her head tilted to one side, ears perked and eyes curious. "If Papa was still here, he would not like that at all..." This trailing thought brought an unusually cruel smile to her innocent features. She was curious now. Who would dare to claim her homelands? And, was he worthy? She new it was a he because the howl had a distinctly masculine note to it. It was also all business and rather uninformative. Really if he wanted to make a good impression on her she had decided that he wasn't doing a very good job. Sparing a glance back at Angel, Meridian gave her a wink. It was conspiratorial, asking for silence. She then turned back to where she was sure this strange male would be approaching from. Her little dragonfly had fluttered off in his direction so she knew for sure that she was focused on the right spot. Her delusions had never steered her wrong in the past. And, as promised, he rolled out of the mists with a sort of grace only a real bastard could manage. If he was expecting the ladies to bow down and kiss his furry feet, however, he had another thing coming. Okay, so she couldn't speak for Angel. She herself was not intimidated in the slightest, however. Whatever this male was, his aura was nothing like the one her true father emitted. It was closer to Exodus's, silent and strong with an unspoken threat. In other words, mister new alpha was a big ol' lump of love! Meri trotted forwards, water dripping from her legs and chest as she left Angel behind in the water. Her steps were bold, head high though non-aggressive. It was still curiously tilted to one side too, emerald eyes taking every detail of the male before her. She didn't miss his strange fur color or dominant posture or the way her little dragonfly friend seemed to flutter about his head teasingly. This made her giggle a little, and she smiled. The only thing she was truly oblivious to was the frail female hiding just out of site, and her voice was innocently melodic as she spoke words of defiance. "You are him, yes? The one that called?" Her smile twisted into something wicked but amused. "What makes you think you can lay claim to my birthright?" He didn't need to know that in truth she held no right at all.

[Angel]

The fully grown tundra wolf bounced around her “friend”, Meridian, splashing water everywhere. Her eyes twinkled in excitement as she remembered that fantastic fun-filled day when she had met and played with the little pup. Oh, that had been so great! She hadn’t had that much fun in ages!
But then… something… something had gone wrong. What was it again? Angel paused in her play and screwed up her face in a thoughtful expression, trying to remember exactly what had happened. She remembered playing with Meri, rushing through the trees in a game of chase. Then, they had started play fighting. And then… After that moment her memory had failed her. And the next thing she remembered was waking up lying in a ditch with a painful gash in her leg and numerous other bites and scratches. What had happened? As much as she tried to recall the events of that strange day, she just couldn’t remember. Weird.

A long howl broke Angel out of her disturbing thoughts, and her tail started to windmill around in circles happily. Her mood picked up instantly and she forgot completely about all of her worries and doubts. After all, another wolf was nearby! Maybe they could get him to join them. Then Angel would have two whole friends to play with!

The white wolf resumed her bouncing, dancing playfully in the cool misty waters as she waited excitedly for the stranger to appear. The water was good for her messy coat as well as for playing in. Although she didn’t notice, and wouldn’t have cared, the tangles were starting to come out of her fur and it was beginning to regain its original silkiness. She actually looked quite nice without the layer of dirt and grime that had accumulated on her coat since her last wash.

Her attention was drawn back to Meri as the she-wolf turned to face her. As Angel saw the conspiratorial wink that Meridian gave her, she grinned back gleefully. So her friend had something planned for this new alpha, did she? Angel could hardly contain her excitement. Nothing this interesting had happened in a long time! She couldn’t wait to find out exactly what Meridian had planned.

Finally, after what seemed like a lifetime to the impatient wolf, the brute appeared. Graceful and strong, he strode proudly out of the shadows. Her eyes opened wide as he came closer and the size difference between them became clearly obvious. God, he was massive. Probably one of the biggest wolves she had ever seen.
That just means that there’s more of him to play with! she thought with a wry smirk. Oh, they certainly were going to have fun with this guy! Angel stood silently in the water, her muscles quivering in anticipation as she watched Meridian make her way over to the large male.

"You are him, yes? The one that called? What makes you think you can lay claim to my birth right?"

Angel leaned forwards so she wouldn’t miss anything important. She intently watched every move that the two wolves made, ears perked forward so she could clearly hear everything they were saying. Her body was held in a tense stance, tail up high in the air and all muscles alert. She couldn’t wait to see how this interesting scenario was going to develop!

It was at this moment that Vorilye turned his full body to face the two, closing the gap to half the previous distance. The little mixed breed female had a smart mouth, and he was not beyond putting an intolerable femme in her place. She felt necessary to stake her own claim on the lands, and the brute cackled inconsiderately. "Your birthright faded once I arrived," he grumbled in a deep, seductive voice. Vorilye was not a stranger to dealing with females, but he did not plan to entice these two today. He needed to prove his dominance to them and show that this was his home now; they needed to be put in their place. The little white female had challenged his newly appointed position, and she would be damn sure to regret it if Vorilye had anything to do with it. The brute's golden eyes fell upon the young wolf whose "birthright" he had seemingly violated, scoffing at what he saw. She was young, foolish, and had no right challenging a wolf of his stature. Vorilye dominated her in several ways, but she was obviously delusional if she felt it was appropriate to challenge someone who clearly outmatched her. While the mackenzie valley wolf was not one for unnecessary speech, he would not hesitate to put the mixed femme in her place. The other wolf, an older, but not much more mature from the looks of it, wolf was watching with a stupid grin on her face. Vorilye was not amused; in fact, it probably angered him further to see someone so blatantly ignoring him and his position. "If you wish to challenge me, then so be it. You will not rise in the same condition you currently stand, I assure you. Do not make me prove my dominance here physically, because you will be the one to suffer," he growled with his dangerously piercing eyes focused on her skull. "I am not a wolf to be toyed with." Unless you want to do some romping around, in which case, I am your toy, he thought with a lazy smirk that disappeared nearly as quickly as it arrived. The brute's gaze switched to the tundra female. She seemed so giddy to watch the situation before her, but he could not tell whether she would be a threat in this situation. The femme held a child-like innocence about her that was somewhat intriguing to the brute. The monster in him screamed to change that, to turn her into a plaything, something kept around for his amusement. But for now, he would play nice. Well, as nice as a threatened alpha can be, he thought with a sneer. He turned to the femme, charging her in a brief second and using his snout to unceremoniously flip her to the ground, forcing a submissive position beneath him. His eyes fell on her, but there was no emotion behind them. There was no rage, anger, hatred, or negative emotion available, because to this female, he was void of emotions. If the femme looked close enough, she may have been able to see the lust bubbling through the brute's head, but as quickly as he had acted, he left the femme, backing away with no intentions of letting his gaze leave the young female who felt threatened by his arrival. "As your friend obviously agrees, I think I am suited for the job," he rumbled, "and I don't think I can lay a claim. These lands are mine. I have a right to do as I please here. As there is no current pack here, then you, my dear, are the trespasser here. Do not think that your words will deter me. I get what I want." The same lust that had surfaced from his brief encounter with Angel rose once more as desire seeped into his eyes. He buried it once more, berating himself for letting his old ways interfere with the situation. She would accept his claim, or she would leave. Not necessarily untouched, the voice sang dangerously in his mind. The brute felt the presence of another wolf and turned his head, the gold of his muzzle aimed at yet another female who had approached. She had not wandered toward the group, it it was obvious that she knew of his claim. Vorilye was certain that she would approach him with time. If not, there was not much she could do to hide. He had only recently wandered these lands, and they were fresh in his mind. Nothing would stop him from scaring off any intruders that dared to challenge his goals for this pack. There was so much he could do, and he could not wait to subdue these insolent children and get on with the situation at hand. "You will join me, or you will leave. These are your options. Now choose." His eyes showed the truth of his words. Vorilye would not hesitate to attack should the pair decide to goad him any further. They may need to be taught a lesson, and he was not past putting a female in her place. He was raised to be an alpha male, and damn it, that was what he was going to be.

Few brutes managed to stand as stock still and silent as this one was. Strong, silent type? she thought. Chances were, she would find out more than soon enough. Generally, the silent ones were complete pushovers. Yeah, they could be fierce in times of life and death, but all it would take for a she-wolf to get her way is to show a little belly fur and give a nice feminine giggle. Alanna suppressed a gag...barely. Things like that had disgusted her even before she had been abducted. For a moment, everything was silent. No one spoke. In situations like this, Alanna would probably be the last to speak. Then again, with the way the new alpha looked, he might be more stubborn than even her, and she had spent months in silence recently. Both ears perked when the pup broke the silence that had descended. Both of Alanna’s brows went up when the words registered. Birthright...? Where she was from, there was no such thing as a birthright. Either you were the most dominant wolf in the pack or you weren’t. In fact, her father had not even been the best fighter, he had just never had to fight. His dominance hadn’t been questioned because he was a good leader, and most of the wolves who might’ve challenged him when they were old enough were cast from the pack. That was how pack life was supposed to be. If it wasn’t, the packlands would be split so that every descendant of the alpha would get a piece when the alpha died, and the process would repeat with all of these little packlands. Eventually, the lands would become so small, a single would could not live on them. In fact, it might only take one generation. Alanna’s father had sired at least 4 litters of at least 3 pups. She had never even heard of a packland big enough to survive being split into 12 pieces. So, it was with reason that the she-wolf looked at the speaker with disbelief. Quickly, though, this emotion was covered up. So quickly, in fact, she highly doubted any of the other wolves had noticed. Especially since none of them had acknowledged her presence. The wolf turned the major part of her attention back to the alpha, interested in how he would respond to such open disrespect and such a preposterous claim. His response, when it came, was a good answer, though not was Alanna would’ve chosen. Yes, he was most likely the dominant wolf, but in this case, his challenger was only a yearling. She was still a puppy. Really, if the younger wolf had any sense at all, she would back down from this particular fight. He was bigger, stronger, and more experienced, and it was obvious. She couldn’t have pups herself yet. One so young had no business challenging an alpha, any alpha – even one that had only just came into power. Alanna wondered about the white wolf’s sanity. She was fairly sure it wasn’t all there, though with her own mental stability in question, perhaps she wasn’t the one to judge. Alanna tried to discern the male’s next move. Chances were, based on his age and the condition of his pelt, he wasn’t going to attack the rebellious pup unless thoroughly invoked. That was probably a good thing. However, the other female, also white, somewhere between the pup’s and Alanna’s ages, was neither submitting or questioning. She appeared to be watching the situation as if it amused her. The timber wolf would bet that was where the alpha’s next move would be. Sure enough, it was. He flipped her so fast, Alanna almost missed it. Of course, she was paying attention, and saw every move the brute made. He had speed and strength, a deadly combination Alanna would have to watch for when they came to blows. Quickly, she gathered her wits as he began to speak again. This was turning into a very interesting meeting, and Alanna wasn’t even in on it yet. He recovered from his episode as fast as she would’ve expected. This male had a fighting potential that made Alanna quiver with anticipation. He spoke again and Alanna got a grim satisfaction with the last line. “I get what I want.” She had a distinct impression he would prove that in the near future and that she would forever remember it. Deftly, she pushed the thought aside and kept her attention on the situation at hand. Death came to those who allowed their minds to wander too far. And, there was always the chance that when one’s mind wandered, it might never come back. Alanna kept a very tight hold on her thoughts and her mind, though her emotions escaped her. The brute turned. Alanna suddenly found herself meeting his gaze. His eyes could’ve been considered piercing, enough to force another’s to avert. Alanna, however, was not a wolf that could be so easily cowed. Instantly, she pulled her dome and tail up high, shooting back the gaze she received. Her ears came forward and flicked back almost synchronized with the slight snarl that pulled the edges of her lips. She was not necessarily showing a dominance over the brute. If anything, she was merely proclaiming herself his equal. He spoke again. Alanna waited, hardly moving, to allow his words and tone to sink in. She was sure he meant them, and was slightly surprised that he was being so diplomatic about his take-over. Such actions showed the male had at least a bit of sense, though it also might mean that he was every bit the pushover many would assume he was. A slight grin found its way onto the she-wolf’s face. There was still something within her begging to be let loose so that it could tear these strangers apart, but something more, something deeper was playing on her pride. Alanna would meet this male on her terms or not at all. Casually, obviously at ease in potentially hostile lands, she trotted to the water’s edge. Still looking at the alpha, she drank the resource. After less than a moment, just long enough to take the edge off the thirst it would be suicidal to proclaim, she took a step away from the water, never averting her gaze. Then, amazed at her own gall, the she-wolf winked at him, turned and trotted into the forest the direction she had come from. He would eventually find her, but she highly doubted he would give chase now. She had always played the part of the fool well, well enough that most days she even had herself convinced. But the yearling had a method to her madness. Her actions, while seemingly randomized to others, were always calculated. She did what the delusions said and the end results were always in her favor. The fact that he acknowledged that she might have had a birthright at all spoke largely of his knowledge base. Anyone that had known of the pack that once dwelled in Acerbus also knew the story of its fall. The cat was out of the bag, so to speak, and with it all past secrets. Salen fell, no known heir to take its place, because the children were all thought to belong to that traitorous bastard of a beta. Only one was of the past alpha's blood and he no longer chose to remain here. It was just Meridian left, poor, sweet, delusional, illegitimate Meridian. And she reveled in the knowledge that this stranger knew nothing of her, of the ghosts that haunted his new land. She met his scoff with a giggle of her own, not quite able to stay entirely still. At some point her tail had started waving, beating an erratic tune of amusement. To her this was all a game. She wasn't making a challenge, per se; being an alphess had never interested the pup. But if she was going to let some giant oaf share her home then she would need to make sure that he would at least be entertaining. She didn't want some boring old foll to live her. The little female craved excitement and bloodshed. She was a Roman most satisfied when witnessing a massacre within the Coliseum. The stranger's next words drew an awed "ooo" from the girl. Meri then giggle again, shaking her head back and forth in disagreement as she pranced about. His threats did not work on her, growls falling on deaf ears. He was not dealing with a typical female. Far from it, Meridian's criteria for judgement were not based on his actions at all. What he did mattered less than how he did it and she was looking for entertainment value. "Don't be silly." She grinned. "You proved that you're my new plaything the moment you indulged any thought that I might actually have a birthright. You're a stranger in these lands." She let her voice trail off, eyes blinking slowly before leaving the new alpha altogether. They refixed upon the dragonfly, the tiny, purple entity that only she was aware of. As if entranced she started to follow it, stalking it like a piece of prey. The delusion distracted her, caused her to forget her game for a moment. When the wolves managed to regain her attention Angel had been flipped and the behemoth was backing away. Her words were soft, disappointed as she dragged her gaze from her friend and back to the stranger's face. "You didn't draw any blood." What fun was he going to be if he did not strike for death? Meridian sat down on a rather muddy part of the earth. Soil clung to the white strands of fur now, dirtying her rump. She'd picked that spot for a reason though. The moment the mud had infused itself with her pelt she had made a statement. These lands and her own being, they were one. He could not have one without the other. And surely he would find her disorganized thoughts to be of a rather persuasive nature. "You get what I want," and she smirked this time. "And since you lay claim to these lands and everything in them, and I am something that is in them, then you get me as well. Because I do not want to leave my home, and if you expect to learn anything about your new home then your best bet is to get answers from me. Or do you not want to know which part of the mines will kill you in your sleep? I've goaded many a stranger into being crushed to death in the unstable caverns. Their dying breaths were like music to my ears." For such a young thing, the female was surprisingly well spoken. It fact, it was almost too well spoken. Such wretched words should never tumble from the mouth of an innocent, especially so casually. She spoke as if she was proud of what she'd done. And she was too, she really was. Strangers were nothing more than playthings after all. The question was, could this new stranger handle the likes of someone who's attention only drifted when the hallucinations did? Meridian watched the unknown female slink away in mirth not because she wanted to but because her dragonfly had called attention to the movement. Angel too was all but forgotten so long as she was out of the yearling's direct line of sight. What mattered right now was Mister Alpha and how willing he was to play her sadist's games.

[Angel]

Angel was slightly disappointed by the conversation between Meridian and the stranger. At first she had listened intently but after a few seconds it had just become so boring! She’d never been good at patiently listing to big speeches, especially the ones that were to do with boring politics. Angel just couldn’t understand how anyone could hold their attention on one thing for such a long time.
Her posture slackened and she began to get distracted by the other wildlife at the shore of the lake. She absently watched an insect skim across the surface of the water as she listened to the drone of voices in the background.

Finally, the conversation became so boring that she couldn’t help but intervene, interupting Meri just as she was finishing speaking. “Aw, guys, you’re being no fun! Can’t you see that we all just want to play?” It was obvious that she’d heard nothing of their conversation except perhaps maybe the word “toy”. With a bounce in her step that any kangaroo would be proud of, Angel left the water and scrambled up the low bank, grabbing the dead squirrel she’d dropped earlier. A giddy grin spread across her face as she looked at the other wolves, the meaning of their dominant posturing lost to her innocent mind.

“Here! Let’s play ca-” her words were cut off as the brute leaped at her and flipped her off her paws and onto her back. The impact knocked the squirrel out of her jaws and it flew in a high arc before landing with a splash in the lake. “Hey, what did you do that for?” she whined“That was my dinner!” The brute loomed over her and she found herself pushed into a very vulnerable position. For a moment the two stared at each other.

Suddenly the position she was in, underneath a big strong handsome male, ignited a spark of lust deep within her. “Oh, now who’s getting excited?” Angel teased, giggling almost hysterically as she realised she had actually flirted. Somehow, she managed to wriggle a paw free and bat him playfully on the nose. Oh, if her mummy were here she would not be pleased. That thought made her feel dangerous and naughty, which just excited her more.

The spark flared up as she gazed at his big strong body, until the lust consumed her completely. She wanted this male, this sexy beast. She wanted to be his. She wished he would take her right now. A little moan-like whine escaped from her mouth as she imagined what it would be like. She knew he wanted her too; she could see the same lust mirrored in his eyes (although that may have just been a fantasy of her delusioned mind).

Abruptly, he pulled away. Angel only then remembered that they had company. “Okay, hot stuff, we can do it another time if you’re too shy with her watching” she flicked her long fluffy white tail to indicate Meridian, unaware that another wolf was lurking in the shadows. “Just don’t keep me waiting too long…” She licked her lips, hungry for the feel of him inside her.

Angel stalked slowly towards the larger brute, her usual clumsiness non-existant, as if she were a completely different wolf. When she deemed herself close enough for him to really notice her, she turned teasingly around, showing her rear end so that he must be blind not to see it.
Surely he’s tempted by that, she thought to herself with a sly smirk.

She reluctantly turned back to face him as he spoke once again.
A choice, was it? Angel laughed seductively. “Oh, mister, that’s no choice at all... I’d love to join with you. In fact, why don’t we do it later tonight?” Another smile spread slowly across Angel’s face so she could be sure that he knew exactly what she meant.

Sure, it wasn’t the romance she’d always dreamed of, but it would certainly do for the meantime.

Vorilye growled under his breath as the little white female rambled on about how well she knew the lands and how he was now stuck with her. It seemed as if both of these wolves were off their rockers; at least they were easy on the eyes. The alpha brute eyed Angel hungrily, her words provoking him in ways that he should not have been feeling toward her. Calm down, she isn't worth ruining this, he mentally berated himself. This was becoming more troublesome than he had hoped. What madness had possessed these two? Maybe I should not drink the water here. He eyed the two, almost warily, from the behavior. Thus far, they had been harmless toward him, but the young femme seemed a tad bit more aggressive than he had originally thought. After all, she had first threatened him, then done a complete turn around to pledge to stick around the territory and bother him. Vorilye was beyond overwhelmed; how did he manage to stumble across the two craziest females on the face of the continent within his first trip? Glancing backwards, Vorilye watched the spectating female retreat from their conversation, and he bit back a growl. He did not want some strange female wandering his territory. If she had the sense to recognize his claiming howl and seek him out, then she was an utter fool for leaving the scene. Now he would have to go seek her out, and that confrontation would not necessarily be pretty. "Welcome to Descai," the brute bit out painfully. Vorilye nearly choked on the words that he fought against saying. Every ounce of his mentality was fighting against saying anything further to these females, but he knew orders would need to be given or else they would be helpless little flowers. Yeah right, he thought with a snort. Femmes are nothing but trouble. But at least they're trouble that can't stand up to me. There was so many things he could ask the two. He wanted to know more about this territory; obviously the little one had some knowledge about the area, or she would not have initially claimed that it was her birthright. Yet she renounced that statement. It was a matter-of-fact thought, but it made the brute curious about the history here. What had happened to the last pack that claimed this territory? The scent markers had faded, but they were not as far gone as most stale territories around here. In fact, there could not have been too much of a lapse between his claim and that pack's disbandment if he could still detect the markers, however faint they may be. And obviously, these two had stuck around. At least, from what he could gather they had both been members of the previous pack. Vorilye cursed under his breath. There were many questions he had for the two white femmes, but he did not want to speak any more than necessary. If the little one felt the need to stick around, however, there would be plenty of time if they refused to leave for him to inquire about those things. He would have to wait in order to get his wits about him once more. Gazing at the pair once more, he asked the last question he could muster. "Femmes, what are your names?" ((OOC: Sorry that this isn't as good as my normal posts. I'm a little pressed for time this morning. I may add more to it, but it won't be anything that changes the essence of the post.))

Silver eyes glinted in the dimming light of the canopy of thinning trees. Mist grew thicker and thicker as he neared a plot of water which he'd been able to smell for quite sometime. Tongue lolled out of his mouth, dry from the lack of liquid he'd swallowed in the past few days. The days he'd wandered alone burned in the back of his mind, reminding him to never trust anyone but himself. His pack was gone to a group of nomads his Father had trusted, his Grandfather to the world the old fool had trusted, and he himself was bloodied and mangled for trusting a lone fae. Dropping his gaze to the ground, the young brute scoffed, his fur bristled to a tight point. Claws scarred the group, audits flicking casually in the light breeze. The adolescent would have looked like any other wolf his age, save for the blood clotting his thick, raven pelt. A sigh breezed through his maw as his steps grew lighter and lighter. A true pup -- why did he yearn for a pleasant pup hood? Why was he not satisfied with the life he had led up until just a month before? 'Because you're a foolish little ungrateful brat, that's why Triell' despite being in his mind the words came out bitter and harsh, quite similar to the way his father once spoke. Snarling to himself, a paw lashed out and sent a small stick hurtling into a tree, not that he cared. Pushing past a few final branches, silver eyes caught sight of a small group: one fleeing Fae, a youngster, and a brute, and he could faintly catch the scent of another fae, though he wasn't quite sure where exactly she was. Rolling his eyes, Triell stood there, his legs twitching slightly though he did not approach. The young brute's rump flopped to the ground, eyeing the small group with cautious eyes. The other brute was much older than he and appeared to be the one who howled just a bit ago. 'A soon to be, if not already, alpha.. joy.' Silver eyes rolled once more before he stretched and approached, figuring that he'd already been seen anyways.

It was unknown what had caused the sudden, lusty shift in her behavior outside of being an inexperienced youth when it came to the laws of attraction. She seemed utterly unable to control herself. Had Meridian herself been a more mature female in terms of development, the things being said would have made her blush! Not that the young female was a prude... She was simply naive to certain ways of the world, a sheltered life pulling the wool over her eyes. It didn't help that she tended to form strange, abnormal attachments either. Vorilye was a giant, black beast of a male, just like her papas. He was an alpha type, like her papas. He was now in charge of her life, like her papas. For all intents and purposes, Meridian had made the association that Vorilye was to be her new papa. He looked like a papa, acted like a papa, and filled the same role as a papa. Clearly, he had to be a papa too. And would you want to hear such forward proposals to your papa? Thankfully the girl was as ignorant as she was blissful. When Angel had captured the alpha's attention, Meri had allowed her dragonfly to capture her's. She followed it about, trotting in odd circles and snapping her teeth, playfully trying to catch something that didn't exist. It must have looked quite strange to anyone who was paying attention to her. It made her happy though and social attention had never been a strong point. She was detaching from the conversation. These wolves were starting to bore her. Papa didn't speak much anymore and Angel was acting weird. So she withdrew into the realm of her own creations, letting them guide her instead. Until the scent of stale blood caught her nose. The girl actually managed to successfully clamp her jaws around the dragonfly. With that action, it vanished completely and for a few moments she was her true self. She was alert, instinctual, and had the appearance of a true wolf as she sought out the source of the scent. In fact, she was too instinctual. She had completely drowned out any conversation and questions, mind singularly focused on whatever it was that smelled like blood. Hungrily she licked her lips and began to prowl. Meridian didn't find what she had been expecting. She had reached the outskirts of the clearing the same moment the large pup had decided to push his way into visible sight. For a long moment the yearly just stared at him, examining him. Her dragonfly had rematerialized and was guiding her emerald gaze over his body. Several times she dared to step a little closer than was appropriate, sniffing curiously. Then she did the unexpected, though to herself the action seemed perfectly normal. Much like a child blurting out the obvious, her voice carried as she demanded the attention of Vorilye. "Papa! Papa! It smells like blood! Can I keep it?" There was a sadistic gleam in her eyes as her tail wagged happily, waiting for the verdict from her new papa while completely disregarding any feelings or comments the six month old pup might have.

[Angel]

Angel’s seductive smile slid into a frown as she realised that the alpha wasn’t paying much attention to her anymore. It had seemed as though her words had started to get a sexual response from the brute, but then he had pushed his feelings for her aside to focus on other matters. Oh, how boring it must be, having to run a pack when it was clear you weren’t having as much fun as you might have been having otherwise!

Angel was determined to get him to give in to his feelings. She knew that it was what he wanted. She knew what was good for him. He needed to release all that pent up energy and stress he must be feeling at having to deal with low-lifes like Meridian. And Angel would help him do that. That was what femmes were for, weren’t they? They existed purely to satisfy a brute’s needs.
Oh yessss… she moaned to herself, imagining for probably the hundredth time what being with him would feel like.

“Come on, mister, you know you want to…” she spoke in a low murmur as she dared to come closer to the large male. Oh, god, he was a giant. “Come on, let’s find a den for just the two of us… I promise you’ll have a very good night…”
Angel drew her wet tongue down the length of his well-muscled body, but stopped teasingly just before she reached his rear.

“Ohhh…” she moaned “Oh, I can’t wait any longer! I want to be yours right now… For that is who I am. I am Angel. Your Angel…”

She didn’t care if he turned and attacked her because of her forwardness. She wanted to be his; she wanted to be at his mercy so much. She wanted him to dominate her. She wanted him to show her just how strong a brute could be.

She was well past desperation now. She needed him. If he didn’t take her soon, she’d die. She had been waiting for what seemed like forever. She definitely did not want to waste this golden opportunity. After all, she would be asleep soon. She could feel the familiar sensation of tiredness tugging at her already. If he didn’t do it soon… She couldn’t bear to think about it! When Happy Innocent Angel woke up, she wouldn’t remember a thing. Lusty Angel would have to wait for ages until another male turned her on.

Angel’s depressing thoughts were interrupted by the entrance of a young wolf. A male. Her interest was immediately turned to the new arrival.
Of course, Meridian was interested in him too. The young femme seemed to be checking the pup out; Angel could see her eyes roving all over his body.
And what a nice body! Perfectly proportioned. He would grow up to be a very handsome male. She glanced back at the alpha. If he didn’t want her, at least there was another wolf here who could take care of her needs. Angel didn’t care how young he was. She would teach him how to do it right. Of course, the alpha would be far better. But if he didn’t want her…

“No, you can’t have it. It’s mine!” Angel growled deep in her throat as Meridian asked her “Papa” if she could keep the pup. “I need someone to satisfy me. I need someone to take care of me!”
Her eyes were filled with lust as she gazed down at the young male. Lust not directed at him, but at the entire male species. It no longer mattered to her who did it. She just needed it done!

Vorilye was thoroughly enticed by her suggestive words; they kept tearing his attention from what he knew he needed to do. A little fun with the femme wouldn't hurt anything, would it? He growled suggestively back at the femme, not hardly noticing as the mixed pup wandered away from their conversation. He stalked toward Angel, his mind set on what his body had been craving so much. His entire existence was yearning for what Angel was offering him, no strings attached. The brute reached his target, his tongue sweeping against her muzzle as his eyes grew dark and desirous. Her returned gesture, her tongue running nearly the entire length of his body, was a great turn on. He was ready to seize her by the nape of her neck and drag her into the brush to have his way with her. Vorilye was beyond the point of return; and then, everything went downhill. "Papa! Papa! It smells like blood! Can I keep it?" Vorilye's head whipped around as he discovered that the young femme had stumbled upon a pup. He could not even have been eight months old, judging by his size. What concerned him more was the reaction to this pup. Angel, too, was interested in "keeping" the pup. What sort of sadistic wolves are these two? he thought aimlessly. He had never encountered such bizarre behavior from femmes in his life. To make the situation even more odd, the little one had referred to him as Papa. He was not her Papa, nor would he ever be. He crinkled his nose in disgust, unsure of what to do in this situation. Obviously, he would need to step in to save the youngster from the grasps of these two females. Angel did not seem like a serious physical threat to the pup, but the mixed wolf's words concerned him thoroughly. Maybe she would be good for the knowledge of the territory, but he was not so sure that she was going to be one of his trysts when she came of age. There was too much crazy in that one body for the brute to handle; that much he was sure. Vorilye grunted, knowing that he would have other options available. After all, they would come to him. He still needed to stalk down that other female that had darted away as soon as she had appeared. That was going to be his next move, but this pup had thrown a twist into the situation. He had very clearly believed that he would have no males in his pack, as he was not content to share the authority with any other brute. However, it seemed like this pup may have to be the exception. Either that, or the alpha brute would have to kill him. There would be no other possible choices. "Leave him," he snapped at the two with authority. Vorilye was not going to tolerate them fawning over a pup more than him, for pete's sake! It was ridiculous how quickly their attention had shifted from him to the newcomer, and he was a bit miffed by the prospects of potential competition in years to come. "What is your name, pup?" The words came out gruff and raw. He had not intended to speak with these wolves any further, but certain things would have to be known. With the little brute's appearance came some serious complications. He could not allow him to walk away from the pack, as he could become a future threat. Vorilye was certain that none of the other packs anticipated his formation of Descai, and it would be nice to remain anonymous until a time arose that the presentation of the pack became necessary. "Neither of you can have him. Let me make that clear." Vorilye stared at the two with steely eyes, all traces of his former lust disappearing into the wind. He still did not know the mixed femme's name, and he would not stop pestering her until he knew. Two long strides brought him nose to nose with the young one. "Your name," he demanded softly, his voice becoming less tense and more inquisitive. He had so much to figure out if this pack situation was going to work. I am in so much trouble, he thought aimlessly.
