No matter, she mused, pausing for a moment. She looked around, perking her ears forward. When she was certain she was still alone, she began trudging along again. This pack should be no different from any other. . . She'd been on her own for almost a year now, every day in search of a pack. Those that had been established were not pleased by her attitude and loners like herself. . . Well, she tried to avoid them at all costs. She would never get as close to another wolf as she'd been to Amos. Shayde let out a deep breath, casting her gaze upward through the dead branches of the trees. Amos. . . She shook her head, growling at herself. She'd promised herself to let it go. Amos was dead, she was alive. Nothing else should matter to her. She paused again, this time to simply look around. She never liked the Lleingas Woods. Unlike the Boryz Prairie where she'd spent much of her time, the forest gave off an eerie presence that made Shayde's skin crawl. She felt as if something was always watching her, ready to attack. Of course, should anything make that mistake, she would defend herself, fang and claw. But she was lost. She hadn't the slightest clue as to where to begin the search for the pack that thrived here, and she was far too prideful to call for help. Irritated, she growled at herself. This was why she avoided the trees. They may offer a vast amount of concealment from enemies--enemies she usually sought out anyway--but it was easy for an outsider to get lost. She would have rather been out in the open--unprotected and vulnerable. It made the fight so much more interesting. words: 370 tags: Shayde mood: Uneasy and agitated |
