The Mackenzie Valley she-wolf needed some time alone, some time to think. The meeting with the pack was not going well so far; Alanna wanted to kill her, Angel, the idiotic little pup, was scolding her for her rightful hostility towards the Omega, and more and more wolves were coming up out of nowhere! Kallik snorted as she stalked away; Vorilye wouldn’t dare say a word about it, or he would find he had some scars on his muzzle later on. She decided that she would go to the lake again. The waters were calm, the night crisp and cool. A perfect setting for the brooding, irritated femme.
She walked slowly, not wanting to hurry along and tire herself out. No, she wanted to take in the scenery, really look at her new home. Kallik smiled at the beauty of the woods, her new home, as she stalked slowly through the trees. This was her kind of place, she liked it. Though the trees were burned and blackened, wrapped with velvet curtains of mist, there was something about it that gave Kallik a sense of peace. The forest was still pretty, at least in her eyes. A light breeze ruffled her pelt and she shivered slightly, still damp from the water. Once she reached the edge of the trees, she stopped, gazing out at the unbroken, shiny blue glass that was the lake. The breeze had stopped by now, and the water was perfectly still.
A few moments passed, and Kallik moved onward, onto the lake shore. She dipped her muzzle into the water, sucking up the water thirstily. Again, it did taste slightly off to her, but she didn’t care. She was tough enough to fight off any stomach illness she should receive. Once she had drunk her fill, she lay down at the edge of the water, staring into it with a kind of fierce concentration that would have seemed strange to anyone else but Kallik. Being on her own, she had often looked into the water. The purpose was that she could see her own reflection, and feel at least a little less lonely. It was like having a twin, right there with her, staring at her from below the water.
Kallik sighed, and her breath sent small ripples through the water, distorting her image, making it waver and dance. She felt terribly lonely, but there was no way she was going to walk right back into the brood of females. She let out a soft howl, which would be barely audible to the wolves back at the mines. She felt herself wanting Vorilye again, wanting his closeness. She knew he was different, deep down, and that was the Vorilye that she craved…
She let out a little whimper before she laid her head on her paws, her sad, lonely song coming to an end. She needed to get over feeling so sorry for herself, or else she would never heal, never learn to be okay. Kallik shifted slightly, staring out at the lake, her eyes blank, her gaze not wavering one bit. She was in another place now.

There was a thud of paw steps against the ground as a dark form maneuvered through the brush, bringing himself closer to his target with every step and breath. He did not waste any time in his search.
Sigh.
Things had not gone as he planned, and now he was angered. No one would obey him, and his superiority complex was suffering. He was their leader, and they were to obey him. He should not have to bend over backwards to accommodate any of them.
Sigh.
But unfortunately, that was not how things were looking. These wolves were different than his family pack. They were not raised from birth to obey his commands and provide for the others around them. They were a hodge-podge bunch of rascal loners that had somehow managed to congregate into one small area with the hopes of co-existing in peace. So far, things were not looking good for that plan.
Sigh.
The alpha brute had finally grown tired of the wolves' drunken ramblings. He had noticed the femme who had caused much of the problems break away from the group, and it was in his best interest to confront her. While he understood her behavior better than the rest of the bunch, it did not help to have her egging on the violent with Alanna. That was the last thing he needed; to get in the middle of a bitch fight. They would wind up hurting each other, himself, and likely one would wind up dead. There were no winners in that situation, only losers.
Sigh.
And so he had decided to follow Kallik's scent, hoping that he would be able to resolve some of the issues that he had not anticipated when accepting her into the pack. Maybe it was not wise to keep a play thing around, especially when she seemed to be growing more attached to him by the moment. While he enjoyed the attention and the perks were not too shabby, he could not handle the dominant behavior that she had exhibited back at the dens. She was not the alpha female, and she had no right acting as if she was, especially after his not so subtle correction. Alanna had been somewhat justified in her annoyance, though the omega should not have stepped out of line in such a way. She would need to be dealt with later. But for now, he needed to confront Kallik once more.
Sigh.
The brute's golden paws settled on moist ground as he emerged not too far from the shores of Drarynough. He loved the soft mist that shrouded the entire lake; it made him feel comforted in dreariness. It was only these lands that afforded him protection. Beyond the borders of Acerbus, he was equal with any wolf that ambled his way. But here, he was in command. As much as the wolves seemed to be fighting it, he would eventually tear down their walls. He had a way about him that simply influenced wolves to obey. He just needed to find the niche that this pack so desperately needed. A yawn slipped through the brute's sharp fangs, reminding him of the strain he had put on his body recently. If the aching muscles were not sign enough, then the veil of exhaustion that floated about his head was a sharp indicator of exactly how overworked he had become.
Sigh.
Finally, the Mackenzie Valley wolf's golden orbs settled on the figure of his pack mate. Kallik had laid her head on her paws, something that showed a much more vulnerable side of the female that had not been there before. He was surprised at how much he seemed to care about her feelings or her issues; however, he could not bring himself to set aside basic pack etiquette to accommodate the female. Things would need to change, or someone was going to wind up kicked out of the pack. The brute snorted, shaking his head in an attempt to alleviate some of the pressure that had settled around his ears. He was too tense, and it was going to wind up causing health problems if he were not careful. He strode toward the femme, though he was careful to remain a sufficient distance away in order to observe her. Not a word slid past his golden muzzle as he simply watched her body rise and fall with each breath she took. There was no need to ruin a peaceful moment with hostility, and this was the first carefree breath he had been allowed to take in quite some time. He reveled in the silence that surrounded the lake, knowing that all too soon, his silent world would be shattered, and he would be forced to return to the real world.

Vorilye || Mackenzie Valley Brute || Eight Years Old
Random thoughts kept floating past the femme’s mind, though she tried so hard to keep every thought away. ’Go back…’ one voice muttered, fluttering around the edges of her mind, poking and prodding, as if testing the waters of Kallik’s patience. ’Vorilye will be so pissed at you Kallik.’ another growled. Kallik let out a growl of her own and grumbled, ”Shut the hell up.” She was unaware that Vorilye was nearby; he was downwind, the breeze blowing his scent away. Another thing that she had often done whilst she was alone was talk to herself. Not because she was crazy, but because she was, again, alone and desperate for some type of socialization. Whether she liked and was comfortable around other wolves or not didn’t matter; she did need to socialize once in a while.
Kallik closed her eyes, focusing only upon her breathing. Slowly but surely, the thoughts and voices slipped away, leaving her with a blank, peaceful patch of emptiness. The nearly dozed, but at that moment, the winds changed. The scent of Vorilye flooded her nose, and for a moment, she was confused. She’d heard no sounds of his approach. Maybe it was her fur. She licked herself experimentally, and she did taste him. Yet, the scent was so overpowering that she turned around. Sure enough, there he was, standing so tall and proud. The image of him standing nearby made her heart nearly melt. She swallowed and dipped her head to him in greeting. On the inside, she was terribly nervous. None of it showed on the exterior – that was proud also, slightly bold, but also showing her affection for the brute.
A smile found its way upon her maw, and Kallik took a hesitant step forward. She wasn’t sure whether to approach or not. He hadn’t, which made her curious as to why. She felt as if they had some forbidden love – never showing it in the public eye, yet it seeped through when they were alone. Kallik coughed to hide a small chuckle, and she slunk forward, lowering her tail and head; the only sign of nerves she would allow her body to reveal. A whine escaped from her maw as she approached him, and she stopped, hesitant and tore, just a few feet away from him. ”Vorilye…” she breathed, her voice less raspy now that she’d used it a bit. In actuality, her voice was surprisingly soft and quiet, instead of low, husky and rough.
Kallik swallowed again, unsure of what to say. She took another step closer, stretching her muzzle out, wanting to nuzzle him, or at the very least touch her nose to his thick, warm fur. ”Forgive my…actions.” she pleaded softly, speaking of the encounter with Alanna, as well as her sitting at the wrong place. ”Did not know…” Kallik sighed, shaking her head sadly.
She sat down, about three feet away from Vorilye, her head lowered and her ears flat against her head. She was determined to prove to him that she was sorry. She hadn’t meant to mess everything up. She’d sent the whole pack into chaos, all because she’d sat in the wrong spot! Alanna hated her, and Angel had been reprimanding her…what next? The loners would scorn her? Kallik whined and inched closer to Vorilye, feeling the overpowering urge to press against him.
Maybe it was the heat, maybe it was just her heart, but suddenly Kallik felt herself blurting out, ”Vorilye…I have…feelings…for you.”
It was the first proper sentence she had spoken.

What Vorilye had not expected was for Kallik to turn to him and start apologizing. Surely she must not feel that much remorse for her behavior, or she would not have acted that way in the first place, right? He sighed once more; how was he going to keep his pack together if he could not handle the dramatizations of a couple jealous femmes. He could see that what had happened at the lake was a mistake; he never should have succumbed to his instincts, and now it was coming back to bite him. It was not as if the brute did not notice that Kallik naturally gravitated towards him. He had attempted ignoring it, but it was still a nagging thought in the back of his mind. He had simply wanted someone to satisfy him, yet she kept acting as if they were now mates. At least, she was acting how Ithilwen had acted toward him, and that scared him senseless. He did not know anything beyond that relationship, and it had been toxic for him. Any relationship was toxic for him.
And so when Kallik blurted out that she had feelings for him, Vorilye's mind automatically seized up. This isn't happening, he told himself firmly, trying his hardest not to give in to the instinct to bolt. Feelings were not for him. He was not going to let someone else in, especially right now. The pack was just starting out, and he refused to let another bitch come into his life and screw it up for him. They were only there to hurt him; nothing more. Having a mate would cause more problems than it would solve.
Vorilye's eyes silently rested on Kallik, his voice refusing to answer in any way. Her confession had managed to drive him back into the innermost part of his mind; it was the part that had consumed him for quite some time, forcing him to wander in silence and do only what was instinctual. He could not allow someone to penetrate his mind, and that was what she was trying to do. Kallik was a danger to him; she wanted what he was not willing to give. In fact, part of the brute wanted to scream her into exile or force her away. He wanted to do anything but look into her eyes and see the emotion directed toward him. He would not look straight into her eyes; instead, his gaze fell on her paws.
It seemed as if hours had passed as the brute simply stared at Kallik. He had it well-ingrained in his mind that no good would come from trying to deter her. Vorilye would allow her to remain, but he would keep her at a distance. He could coexist, but he could never give her what she wanted. There would always be that twinge of doubt that led him to believe that she only wanted him for his status, or that she was trying to manipulate him like Ithilwen had done. Nothing would take his pack away from him; he would make sure of that.

Kallik lowered her head once more, in shame, and in rejection. She had half a mind to run away now so she wouldn’t feel his burning gaze. It scorched her fur like fire, making her feel hot and terribly uncomfortable. She backed away several steps, feeling tears prick the corners of her eyes. They too were hot, and they blinded her, blurring her vision so that she could see nothing until she blinked, which caused them to fall onto the soft earth. ”You don’t care.” she gasped quietly, turning away from him and laying in the mud. Her head was between her paws, and her body was racked with near-silent sobs that caused her to tremble and quake with anguish. She would not allow Vorilye to see her so broken, not if she could help it.
Part of her knew that she was being stupid for liking, loving, a brute like him. That part told her how idiotic she was being for letting his rejection make her feel and act this way. This might have been the first time she had cried, and it was so strange, she hardly knew what was happening. All she knew was that the water sliding down her beautifully cunning face caused her to feel even more depressed and horrid. Then, something extraordinary happened – she felt movement somewhere near her stomach. Shocked, her tears stopped and she stood slowly, staring at herself. What just happened? There it was again! She whined and turned to Vorilye, shock all over her face.
”I’m pregnant.” she whispered fearfully. The words slipped past her lips without her even knowing that she’d said it. Once she had, her eyes widened and a fearful whimper came from her maw, and she crouched low to the ground. ”I feel moving!” Kallik groaned, teetering towards him, her emerald orbs huge in the darkness.

Vorilye should have felt remorse. He should have felt some form of sorrow for breaking Kallik's heart. But he felt nothing, nothing at all. Everything had come rushing back to him, overwhelming him in a wave of emotion that one could not handle with ease. He was back with his original pack, being scorned over and over again for his appearance. He was being made inferior to Arwen, purely because of his looks. He was back with Ithilwen, feeling the emotion as his first litter of pups was born, and then the heart break as they drove him away from his family. He meant nothing to any of them; why would Kallik be any different?
Everyone wanted something from him. It was not a matter of if, but when they would come looking for it. He had been used and abused by the ones he had cared for most, and he refused to let it happen a second time. Instead, he allowed his gaze to fall a little softer on Kallik. Vorilye understood that she did not have control over her emotions. However, it was foolish of her to believe that she could love someone such as him. He was not worthy of another's love, as had been demonstrated time and time again. He would always be a means to an end. He would provide protection and food, and then they would stab him in the back as soon as they had the opportunity to do so. The brute could not imagine another relationship after the last one had collapsed so suddenly. That was why he took only what he wanted and left no reason for the femmes to believe he wanted more. But somehow, Kallik had gotten her wires crossed. She had fallen for him, and it was going to end up ugly.
The brute was prepared to open his mouth to command her out of his territory, but he froze dangerously as she announced that she was pregnant. A wave of fear rushed through his body; this was leverage that she could use over him, an attempt to turn the pack against him by claiming to be superior to the rest of them. She had planned this from the very beginning! What a selfish, manipulative bitch! he seethed, the rage from the entire situation snowballing into something much greater. Two could play at this game, and he was determined to win. He would not turn her out while she was carrying his pups, but the pack would scorn her for her "infidelity" outside of the pack. At least, that was what they would all believe.
A sick smile crossed the brute's face. His eyes narrowed bitterly at her, his commands flying from his mouth so quickly that he was sure she would have difficulty understanding him. "So far as we are concerned, those pups are bastard pups, do you hear me? You will not turn this against me, or you will find yourself without a home and no way to support your little family. I will not be manipulated by you. I will not let you win. As far as you are concerned, you are Decai's Omega. Your behavior has shamed our pack. Do you hear me?" The last four words were snarled to Kallik, but his anger was merely a disguise for his fear. When the pups were born, any that resembled him would have to be killed. He could not have the pack associating him with Kallik. It was far too dangerous, and he would wind up in a worse situation than he had been before.
You will not win.
Vorilye || Mackenzie Valley Brute || Eight Years Old
This was unbelievable. His wasn’t happening. Her mind was frozen with shock, fear, and anger at Vorilye’s words. Kallik snarled ferociously, her hackles rising. ”How dare you!” she spat at him, her body seeming to grow larger. She advanced on him, all fear forgotten now. It was all anger, just anger. She scored her claws across his muzzle in deadly aggression, wanting to fly at him and let him feel the wrath that she now held for him. But no, she held herself in check. She could not allow herself to do so. Even what she did now was atrocious. She expected him to attack her, but she was ready if he did. Satisfied that she got her message across, Kallik snarled and pushed roughly past him, heading back towards the others. She would not attack him again. She would not leave the pack. She would wait, and let him suffer the consequences.
Kallik left him by the lake, hurtling herself towards the others as fast as she could go. She had no idea what she would do; she knew almost nothing about pups. She was starved, and didn’t know how to hunt. She was forced, however much it irritated and degraded her to do so, to rely on Vorilye and his pack to sustain her. And her new rank? Omega? She snarled at the thought. She was as lowly as Alanna now. This was the first time that she wondered what Alanna had done to receive her rank. Perhaps her story was similar to Kallik’s. Perhaps she had just irritated Vorilye. Whatever the reason, Kallik was seeing Alanna in a new, different light.
She didn’t like the aggressive femme any more, but she didn’t like her any less, either. With one last push, Kallik was back at the mines, where only her thoughts could hurt her. But suddenly, she had a new thought. She would not be accepted readily if she were carrying Vorilye’s pups, and she wouldn’t stand the rumors Vorilye himself would spread. She turned, decided that she was better off finding a new home. With that, she left Descai, left Acerbus. Left Vorilye.
It was exactly how the brute had anticipated things would go. Kallik was no different than the rest of them. They all had expectations for him, and he was not about to change himself to be what they thought he should be. Vorilye snarled under his breath, his eyes narrowed to slits as Kallik took in his explosive words. The femme lashed out at him in an instance, and the brute felt a searing pain rush through his muzzle as her claws made contact with his nose. A cut, though not deep, appeared, and the sting of blood rushing to the open cavity enraged the brute further.
But the bitch was not brave enough to back up her behavior. As soon as she struck out against her alpha, she darted away, no doubt escaping before he had the chance to kill her traitorous ass. Vor snarled angrily, prepared to rush after her when his reason got the better of him. She could not survive outside of his pack without help; not many other wolves would take a pregnant femme into their fold, especially when they found out she was carrying the pups of another alpha. The price over her head would be sufficient enough to deter anyone from harboring her. If that was not confirmation enough, the brute would sign her death warrant himself.
Lifting his crown to the sky, he let out a howl as warning to the wolves not only in Acerbus, but also the surrounding area of the witch that had escaped his grasp. "Do not harbor the Mackenzie Valley femme. She is a traitor and a liar; if she is found on Descai lands again, she will not survive long enough to make it to the borders."
[/i] He had had enough of her bull shit. First, she had attempted to convince him that she had feelings for him, only then to pop the pregnant card. If that wasn't a ploy to get him to mate her, he did not know what was. After all, what wolf would reject his own pups?
He shook his head bitterly. For all Vorilye knew, she was carrying bastard pups and attempting to pass them off as his. He would not be surprised. Sure, he had not recognized the story of Salen when he had first met Meridian, but rumors circulated fast. He knew of the trickery and deceit that had overtaken Salen before, and he would not be a victim of the second attempt. Kallik was simply a manipulator, and he would not fall into her paws.
Angry and worked up, Vorilye ambled back toward the dens, eager to rest his weary body after the dramatic behavior. Kallik would have no place to run once Vorilye was done, and she would pay for striking out against a superior as she had. He still considered her one of his ranks, and such behavior as striking the alpha, in addition to fleeing the territory, were punishable by death. Why had he ever felt sorry for her?
