There was a silence about Acerbus that pleased the golden and black brute. It was something that he had not experienced in quite some time. It seemed as if the entire pack had retreated to the wings or were preoccupied with something else. Vorilye had never been more excited than at this moment.
The quietness that swirled about his lands was music to the brute's ears. As his paws brushed gently against the damp soil, he breathed in the coolness of winter. With any luck, the coldness would soon give way to the bright, moist spring that always visited Anikira. He was anticipating the lands to bloom with the arrival of spring, and he was already ready for the signs of life that would indicate new beginnings for his pack.
Vorilye had not heard from Kallik since her disappearance from his lands. He did not find himself overly concerned with it, however; she would not be able to hide from him forever. The lying, conniving femme had earned herself a death warrant by fibbing to him, and he would be sure her sentence was served out. Those bastard pups had no rights in his territory, and he was determined that her spawn would never enter Acerbus. In fact, he was slightly concerned that she would attempt to return. If she had found others who believed her lies, they would be out to get him. He was in a dangerous position, and there was not much he could do to avoid it.
He would have to be on the look out for strangers in his lands. Surely his pack would come to his aid, but he would not rest his life in their paws. Regardless of his status as alpha, he would have to look out for himself. He was his own guardian, and there was no one that would convince him otherwise. I have to take care of all of this, he thought strangely. Wandering along the borders, he was determined to patrol his lands to ensure that nothing ill would occur on his time. He would take care of this himself. He would find Kallik, and he would make sure that she could never hurt him.

Vorilye || Mackenzie Valley Brute || Eight Years Old
It was frustrating the brute that, as he trekked around his territory, he never once encountered a member of his pack. What had been a very eager to please bundle of females was now missing in action, and they would have hell to pay when the brute caught up with them. Vorilye was enjoying his quiet, but now he was growing irritable with the absence of his followers. Where had his pack disappeared to? Were they all gone from his lands like he had initially wanted? Sure, he had not been the most welcoming at first, but he had made accommodations and included them in his pack. They should all feel lucky to have been included in the first place.
Maybe they had heard what had occurred with Kallik and were all scared of him. Vorilye did not think that he had been in the wrong in dealing with her; in fact, he was much kinder than he could have been. What if that stupid bitch had ruined his entire pack for him? If they all believed that she was, in fact, telling the truth, he would be seen as a heartless, cruel alpha for having turned away the female. He was just trying to protect himself from the conniving behavior of a lying femme; couldn't they see that? The brute huffed indignantly, now thoroughly irritated by this possibility. She was going to ruin everything for him, and there was nothing he could do to stop her.
Lifting his crown to the sky, the brute let out an immense howl, summoning all remaining members of his pack to join him on the borders. They were going to scour the territory in search of anything shady. He would not allow her to ruin what he had constructed here; Descai was his pack, and Vorilye would ensure that it survived with or without the Omega femme. Kallik was nothing but an inconvenience and a good lay. Now, it had come back to haunt him, and he had to do clean up work to ensure that his world was not rudely uprooted.

A rather irritated and impatient howl rang through the entirety of Acerbus, rousing the small red fae. After her acceptance into the pack, she'd immediately found a soft spot in the Lleingas Woods to take a long nap. It had been so long since she'd felt at ease enough to just sleep. She should have known that it was too good to be true.
Nonetheless, Shayde stretched herself out of her curled position, fanning out each of her toes before getting to her feet. She arched her shoulders with a deep intake of air and let it out with an equally deep sigh as she shook her entire body. She then trotted off in the direction of the alpha's call.
The ground beneath the fae's paws was damp and a little cold. Shayde didn't like the cold. She preferred the heat of the desert over the chill of a mountain. A shudder wracked her body, reminding her that she just wasn't built for the cold. She hoped that spring would arrive soon. Spring meant warm sunshine and an abundance of prey. The thought of food only made the fae's stomach growl irritably. Maybe Vorilye had something she could eat? Probably not.
By the time she reached the borders, Shayde was sure that she'd be the last to arrive. To her surprise, however, Vorilye was alone. He looked just as impatient as his howl had sounded. The fae paused a moment before proceeding towards her alpha.
"You called?" For a split second, she wondered if her curtness would offend the brute. But then, she realized that she didn't really care. He'd woken her up from a much deserved nap. It was his fault she was grumpy.
Causing a mottled scrap of fur at the ocean's cusp to stir sluggishly as if poked by a curious child trying to wake the dead. A thick grey film coated her thoughts, in regaining consciousness she tried to open her eyes, to find that her eyelids peeled open like sandpaper, convincing her almost to close them once more. Her pupils shrieked and retreated to slits at the offensive light that her eyes were finally exposed to. The grunt that she meant to make at the discomfort was cut-off by a violent upheaval of sea water. Her swollen throat felt raw from the foreign substance scraping her trachea. She hacked until she had to stop to breathe, wincing when the cool air touched the now tender flesh in her throat.
She tried to shift her weight so she could stand, but collapsed in alarm when she found that the ground moved beneath her. Eyes now snapping open in surprise to find that she was laying on sand. What the vixen didn't know was that she was at the shore's edge from where it banked off into Acerbus.
Her abused body was reluctant when she raised her sable crown to the West. Craning her neck upward in a slow awed access of the forest before her. Tall sturdy trunks stood as pillars, the dark wood spoke of age and strength. She envied their confidence. So sure that no being possessed the audacity to cut down Nature's favorite children. For fear of her wrath. A mental checklist ran through her clearing head, trying to add up the damage she'd accumulated. She shifted uncomfortably onto her haunches and with a sharp intake of breath, found her tail shooting sparks of agony through the broken appendage. 'Broken.' She thought as hot waves of pain needled its way up her spine. Black spots scattered about her vision. Blotting out the ground in front of her. She laid back down slowly and waited until her head stopped spinning. Now there was no denying it. Thea knew she was sick. She had been ill for some time, it was one common seen among the untreated in the fighting pits. Known as the Needles. The sickly fever had taken it's toll. The femmae could almost feel it cackling inside her like a wicked beast, it felt like a tainting of her spirit. Only five minutes awake and she was practically panting from exertion. How had she'd driven herself this far from the dignity had strived to withhold in her life? How could she let herself wander so far from civilization? Surely she would die here. And yet. No panic formed from the knowledge of her eminent death. For she would die free. Free from the containment that her life as a princess had brought. She felt hallowed and almost gleeful at the thought, if not for the outcome. For if she were to continue living, would it not be to continue experiencing one horrendous endeavor after another. Why would she think otherwise? She had known nothing else. For the world must be as evil as the small bit she had sampled in her short life. Leaving a bitter taste.
But something nagged at her brain relentlessly, like a thought that kept slipping away to only come back and dance teasingly on the verge of remembrance. That was when the second howl pierced the air. And again the tugging of her thoughts. Except this time it didn't flee from her grasp, but instead it wrenched with a sharp pull, an answering howl from her aching jaw and stinging gullet. She ended the note before the full force of loneliness the call had surfaced could drag her down.
Another hot wave of needles caused her to sink stubbornly to her knees, then her feet, until she fully collapsed with a sharp yelp of helplessness into the sand that moved to accommodate her frame.
Nestled into the sand, she thought it strange that it was warm. Or maybe her body was just cold in comparison. No matter. Because.... dying here would not be so bad. Even though it was deep in winter, the sun broke through the dank clouds and warmed her pelt briefly. An eerily blissful smile stretched across her maw as she dropped her head contently into the sand's embrace. Ignoring the few granules that filtered into her ear. The sable fae lay sunning there in an ever fleeting light as she slipped into unconsciousness.

Angel smiled as she trotted through the dark and gloomy forest. It was a beautiful day, to her eyes at least. Mist wreathed through the trees, and dampened her thick white fur. It almost felt as if she were in another world, and if she closed her eyes she could imagine herself back at home with her loving parents, Koia and Marrus.
The muffled sound of a stranger’s voice coming from somewhere up ahead made her ears prick up, distracting her from her daydream. She shook her head and giggled – a very feminine sound. Silly Angel, she told herself, no getting distracted just as you’re about to meet a new friend. She must be getting close. Angel had been hunting in the area when the howl had rung out, and had immediately abandoned the squirrel she was about to catch to answer her master’s summons. She had been walking for ages; she hadn't realised that he would be such a long way away.
Suddenly two figures appeared out of the mist just ahead of her. She slowed her pace to a walk, as she neared them, finally coming to a halt a few feet away. Her tail was wagging happily behind her and her smile had grown into a grin. “Hey Mister Alpha!”
“It’s nice to meet you!” she said, cheerfully adressing the strange wolf. “My name’s Angel and I’m a subordinate of Descai. Have you joined too?” She cocked her head to the side as she studied the stranger, and blinked her pale blue eyes prettily. The wolf wasn’t male, which was unfortunate. The alpha was the only male in the pack, and for some reason she just didn’t believe that he was the one for her. Some day, she knew, she’d find the one she dreamed of. Just then, another howl rang out from somewhere in the distance. “Ooh! Another stranger! Can we go meet her?! Can we?!”
Finally, there were signs of life in Acerbus once more.
As soon as he cried out, the new femme, Shayde, had appeared almost by magic. Vorilye felt a smile cross his lips as he dipped his head in greeting to her. It was nice to have someone who seemed of sane mind in his presence. It was part of the reason he had gravitated toward Kallik, only to find himself burned by his kindness. He would not make that mistake again; all it ever led to was pain.
As soon as the thought of sanity crossed his mind, the bouncing female known as Angel reappeared, snapping him back to the reality of his pack. Vorilye was harboring a bundle of misfits that had no idea how to work together. It was time that they started organizing themselves, or they would never survive another winter. They were lucky to have made it through this one. A strange howl rung across the land, and as Angel hyperactively infiltrated his conscious, he nodded his head, slightly subdued by her energy. "Angel, please go check that out," he ordered her, anxious to put some distance between himself and the femme that was going to be the death of him. This task would preoccupy her, however temporarily, and that pleased the brute.
"Shayde, we are in need of a hunt," he explained, turning to face the femme once more. "I cannot recall my last meal, and it will soon make us weak and an easy target to others." His mind drifted to his presumed conspiracy surrounding Kallik and the pups. He wondered what had become of her and the pups... He would need to do some investigating to get to the bottom of it. Maybe while Shayde and the others hunted, he could search for her, see what had become of the scent trail away from the lake. She could not have made it too far and, if she was with pups as she had so boldly stated, she would not be able to make it on her own...

The fact that she had been given the slightest acknowledgement--a small dip of the head--caused the red fae to grow a little wary. What in the world was that supposed to mean? There was even the tiniest ghost of a smile on the alpha's face. Was he pleased she'd answered his call? Wasn't that kind of a given? He hadn't even snarled at her for her irritable announcement of her arrival. Then again, maybe she'd been wrong about him being a typical male--dominant, arrogant, ignorant; the three -ants.
Before the red fae could say another word, a second wolf appeared. She was pure white, not a color Shayde had seen in a while, and said a proper greeting to the dark brute a few feet away. It was when the greeting was turned on Shayde that the fae grew uncomfortable. This Angel femme was bubbly. Too bubbly. Shayde flicked her ears back almost immediately, taking a step away from the snow-white wolf.
"Shayde,"
[/color] she muttered out, turning away. She had a feeling that if she didn't at least give out her name, the bubbly femme would just ask over and over until Shayde finally snapped. Starting her new pack-life with such a record was not something she had in mind.
A second howl cut through the forest, causing Shayde to perk up her ears again, trying to get a feel for where the stranger was. As she didn't know the land very well, she couldn't pinpoint the exact location. When the snow-white wolf spoke up again, Shayde pinned her ears back to her head again. Too bubbly,[/b][/color] she thought, suppressing the urge to growl. It was Vorilye's response to Angel's question that caused Shayde to heave a sigh of relief. The red fae wasn't one for meeting strangers--it had taken plenty of guts just to confront Vorilye only hours before.
However, that didn't mean she wanted to go on a hunting trip. "You want me to what?" Her voice was dangerously close to a growl. Picking up on this, she quickly lowered her head, adding, "I'll see what I can do." Before the brute could snarl at her impudence, she turned and loped off in the direction she'd come.
Irritation surged through her veins like some sort of toxin. She wasn't used to taking orders from anyone other than herself. She wasn't used to having to take back her words and apologize for her wrongdoing. After a few minutes, she slowed to a walk, panting heavily from both the exercise and the anger. She surveyed the area, putting her mind solely to the hunt at paw.
Over ten minutes later, Shayde had managed to corner a few measly rabbits and had swallowed a couple field mice on the side. A low, irritated growl ripped from the fae's throat. Three rabbits? If she returned with such a small feast. . . But what choice did she have? Something was better than nothing, was it not? Ears pinned back, Shayde snatched the small kills in her jaw and began the trek back to where the others were. Maybe after delivering the kills she could go off on another excursion. Pleased with the idea, she broke into a fast trot, nearly dropping her spoils.

“Shayde” she repeated thoughtfully, cocking her head to the side for effect “That’s a nice name. Very pretty” Angel smiled at her ‘new friend’. She was very good at making 'friends'; she had lots!
Angel bounced on her paws excitedly, a wide grin splitting her face as her alpha told her her mission. “Ooh, goody! I mean, yes sir, Mister Alpha!” She immediately turned and raced off into the woods, her paws stretching as far out in front of her so that she could meet her new friend as soon as possible. It never occured to her that Vorilye might be sending her on the mission just to get rid of her. She was a perfect little angel – there could be no reason why anyone wouldn’t like her!
She felt so happy today. Life was perfect. The dark trees looked so beautiful as they whizzed past, and the thick canopy blocked out the sunlight and gave the gloomy forest an eerie and mystical feel. This was her home. She loved it here.
After a nice peaceful run through the woods, Angel finally arrived onto the shore to see a bedraggled wolf lying limply on the sands. The wolf’s fur looked a bit messy, but Angel didn’t care. It’s what’s on the inside that counts, as her mother used to say. The snow white wolf wondered whether this stranger had a mother. And that also brought the questions 'where does she come from?' and 'how did she get here?'. New friends were so cool! You could find out all sorts of interesting stuff from them! But Angel held back her own curiosities for the moment. First she had to do her duty for her pack!
“Hey, hey, stranger, wake up!” She nudged at the unconscious femme with her nose, maybe a bit too enthusiastically. “Who are you and what are you doing on Descai territory etcetera, etcetera. My name's Angel, by the way. My alpha said that I should go check you out. He trusts me with important missions, you know!” She delivered her little speech with pride, not even noticing what the other wolf was doing. Okay, maybe she was sometimes a bit too bubbly, but at least she wasn’t in one of her moods.
Thea felt herself floating. All her pain was a mere memory. Just blissful nothing. The darkness was creeping closer. Tired... so tired. It felt good to stop struggling, to drift away where there was no pain, where no. One knew about her past. Hmmm... there was a pinprick of light ahead, flickering warmly, beckoning to her. Should she go? It might be nice for a change...
And then... a sharp prod in her side.
Wriggling uncomfortably, she tried to forget the strange occurence. But again the prodding of her side. Now irritated, she tried to focus on resurfacing-- so she could make whatever was bugging her, cease. But her eyeslids felt detached from her body, staying closed of their own accord despite her desperate efforts to wake up. Just the light... was so warm... it made... one heavy... with the lack of will to... move.
This time a sharp nip bit at her shoulder.
Now she was mad. If it was buzzards, they'd better goddamn wait till she was dead before having the audacity to peck at her as if she were a corpse! With a sharp growl she snapped her head up and towards the nuisance, immedietly regretting the fast movement as her head began to swim. Her golden eyes recognized three... four wolves? She didn't know... they all looked the same with their cream coats and blue eyes. If they would only stop moving! Then maybe she could get a firm hold on one of them and shake some sense into them. Sure enough her eyesight settled, the wolves morphing into one white fae who loomed over her with an aura of choking excitement. Her hawk-like eyes narrowed dangerously as she managed to croak out, "Who... are you?!"
Winter. She hated Winter. Her thin pelt was accustomed to warmer weather, for humid climates, eternal rays of the hot sun, weather where it was too uncomfortable for most bare. Weather where others not so climatized would perish---the desert. Her Arabian lineage yearned for such heat, and yet, the prospect of easier prey amongst other reasons had her wander into territories she knew were not unclaimed.
Her being growled with impatience, forced to keep moving at a brisk pace to maintain her heat as she passed through the colder parts of Kamari. Kitsch sensed that she was closing in on the border to Acerbus--home to the hostile Descai pack. Though she had never met the pack that roamed in Western Territory, she knew that wolves who entered their lands unannounced, usually ended up in the worst possible scenario. Kitsch understood this breach, understood their reasoning, and, although she cared not for the rules of pack territories, fighting a pack by herself without the help of pack mates was suicidal. And that wasn't going to happen. Not today at least. On the day of her pack's slaughtering, she swore with unshakable determination that she wasn't going to fall until those Gypsies filth were taken care of.
With that thought lingering in her mind, Kitsch let out a low, vicious snarl, propelling herself forward at top speed as she ran through the plain without any intention of stopping, not caring for the wild life who scampered away in fright at the sound of her passing. Thinking of that fateful night always made her lose control, made her irritated, violent, exceedingly blood-thirsty, emotions of hatred and pain flaring stronger than usual.
Upon reaching the border separating the two territories Kitsch forced herself to a dead stop, letting out a loud, pretentious howl that ricocheted through the trees of the Lleingas Woods. If she was to be met by one of the wolves in this territory, she had to calm down. The femme would need to communicate effectively enough to not initiate a fight if her circumstances of her entering the lands lead to that, and being wound up on the past didn't exactly help effective communication and assessing a situation with a calm, collected mind. Never the less, she wasn't going to wait around for the merry family to arrive, and, with a kick of her heels, bounded across the woods of Acerbus without any set destination of where she was going.
She must have run through the core of Acerbus without any interference because she could have sworn she heard a faint howl on the wind as she pursued further into the territory. There was no mistaking it. It seemed to come from the Northern direction----but why so far away? Surely the pack had heard her first call and would be running in the direction of her previous location. She would have met up with them by now. Yet, it seemed that the howl was coming from the other side of the Northern Territory...strange. Very strange.
Without a moment hesitation, Kitsch began running in the direction of where she had thought the howl was situated, impatient to investigate the reason for such a call. Were they beckoning her? Answering to her own previous one? If so, why in such a far away place to where she previously was? Her cluelessness had her irritated as she gained speed with each minutes' passing. Again, another howl pierced the sound of rushing wind, causing her to flick her ears forward and strain her hearing. This time it was stronger, and she could differentiate the underlying emotion. ...It was a pained wail, which admittedly startled her and ignited further inquisitiveness. Having no desire to stop and howl back in reply, Kitsch continued to race to her destination, adrenaline pushing her further and further to the coastline.
But what she found was not something she was expecting at all.
What came into view was a white femme, who was standing beside a sable-coloured form that seemed to not be moving much at all, despite the prodding of the other's snout at her shoulder. Whether she had stumbled across a fight, or a washed up wolf, she wasn't entirely sure, until a couple of cautious steps had her confirm the situation in front of her. There was no scent of blood, and from what she could see, the coat of the unmoving wolf was drenched. 'What happened?' Kitsch immediately stammered, trotting over to the stand on the other side of the fallen canine with sharp eyes at the white who was staring at her with surprise. Taking no time to listen for an answer, rather, she was too irritated to wait for one, Kitsch dropped her eyes to the broken form and quickly studied what lay before her. The wolf was in a very poor shape, ridden with scars like she herself was, and despite the thickness of her dark pelt, she could easily see the black's protruding ribs.
It was...disorientating. To see a wolf in such a bad state---at the brink of death. It reminded her too much of her own situation of that one day...that day where she too was nearly dead, that day where she nearly gave up on living because she was just too far gone. It seemed this wolf had admitted to that fact, and this angered the smaller femme on many levels. It was like she was looking down at her previous self, where in that split second moment as she saw the three canines in front of her that she admitted her fate before that hatred had all but consumed her and changed her mind instantly. And this sight of the dying wolf was pathetic in her eyes.
'Get up.' Kitsch snarled, boldly clamping her jaws tightly around the scruff of her neck where the folding of loose skin lay and yanked her to unsteady feet despite her being easily twice her weight and larger than she was. She knew nothing of the extent of the injuries the wolf had sustained, but still, she pulled her up to a stand. When the femme fell again with a pained whine, Kitsch repeated the process, and brought her to her feet again, forcing the drowsy wolf to look into her mad, golden eyes as to keep her attention so that she wouldn't fall into the strong pull of unconsciousness once more. 'Look at me. What is your name?' 'Thea....' the other mumbled in her haziness, not at all well enough to keep her eyes open for more than five seconds, yet Kitsch was determined to keep her standing upright. She needed to keep her conscious long enough before she figured out what she was going to do with the problem at hand, the other stranger may have something planned already, but for now, the only way she knew how to keep the other's mind active was to be aggressive enough to flare some kind of emotion from the stranger to want to keep conscious. 'You're being pathetic here. Look at where you are. On land. Beside two wolves. How could you allow yourself to be seen in such a state? Have you no pride?' It was not in Kitsch's nature to aid a stranger wolf, yet here she was, trying to keep such a pained soul conscious. Helping her. Why? Why should she even care? It was not as if anything could be done if a wolf didn't want to help herself. And from what she taking from the situation, it seemed as though that was the case. If such a being was still in the living, still being given the chance to pull through this, then why give it up. Why, for the femme's own selfish reasons, should she be able to be given the choice to reside in the fact to just lie down and let her life end. Not all wolves had such a choice---still borns, slaughtered kin....and yet, this wolf seemed too concerned on her exhaustion than on her will to live. She couldn't let that happen. Call it stupidity, call it reminiscing in her past events, call it excessive over-thinking, she wasn't about to let this wolf to die without trying, however absurd and superstitious that may be. 'Do you know this wolf?' Kitsch directed her question to the white femme this time, eyeing her critically as she hoped the question would prompt a reply of a solution to the matter at hand.

Before the white femme could respond a howl caught her attention, closer than the rest, with interest her ears pricked towards the treeline. Her head followed in time to witness a bristling ball of fur make it way with difficulty across the shifting sands. She would've smirked but the females eyes seemed to glow eerily against her face when she arrived. 'Hellfire.' She thought to herself reflectively. For she always liked fighting wolves that possessed that same... mmm... spark as she. Her thoughts came to her like oil, sluggish and hard to grasp, her brain responding with delay to her demands. This is how she found herself unable to let loose the warning growl that built in her throat as the new wolf approached her, nor with the snarl that boiled in her chest, (That would've stopped most creatures in their tracks and go no further, lest there be a demon lurking among the shadows.) When the smaller fae grabbed her scruff roughly. Any other creature would've met their doom shortly after for such disrespect, but alas, Thea found her body limp and unresponsive. Which is why when the brown wolf yanked her up, she fell. And why when she demanded her name... she answered.
She still felt a bit confused, not sure who she was. Let alone WHERE. Meaning to stand up, she felt a familiar tugging of healed skin on her right shoulder. And she remembered. Reality set in like the roar of crashing waves in her head.... Hang on... she tilted her head back to glance over her shoulder and find that it was in fact waves. Angry water that was creeping up the the beach with each exhale and intake of its watery breath.
'-have you no pride?' A voice said with disgust.
Thea's pelt bristled along her spine involuntarily. Growling, she snapped back her head from the water as much from her own thoughts to face the she-wolf who insulted her. For pride and dignity were all she had left. The dazed look disappeared from her orbs, replaced with eyes as sharp as a hawk's. Not yellow like a common wolf. Nor gold like the one before her. But a watchful predatory gaze that lingered with unsettling tangibility on your skin. Made you feel as a rabbit when it's see the foreboding avian shadow pass overhead beefore it sweeps down and snatches them from their very fur. They made you feel like prey. Practicing her cool resolve, she unbristled her tail and forced her hackles to lay relatively flat against her shoulder blades. But when the brown fae asked if she new the white wolf, she snapped her attention to the said target, analyzing her as if she had just realized she was there. Seeing her sweet features made her remeber her earlier irritation. "No." She replied curtly. "But it is she who woke me from Death's door. And for that...' She paused, as if the next part needed to be forced out of her. The part that wilted to admit she needed help. 'I-I am eternally grateful." She gave Angel an acknowledging nod before dismissing the matter.
A trembling in her limbs and an ache in her stomach reminded her of her state and pushed her to ask, "Where am I?"

It was as if an explosion of activity was erupting around him. Shayde returned relatively quickly with some small prey, for which he dipped his head in her direction gratefully. Vorilye did not hesitate to scoop up one of the small rabbits, savoring its flesh as he swallowed it hungrily. The energy that the meat, however small, provided was enough to revitalize the brute. Angel had headed over to speak with the newest intruder, and then the voice of yet another wolf flooded the brute's ears.
Vorilye could slightly hear the exchange of words between their newest entry to Acerbus and the demented femme he brilliantly accepted into his pack. A sigh escaped the brute's maw as he realized just how much stress this pack was placing on him. It felt as if a year had gone by, yet there was no advancement of Descai. They needed to start working toward the brute's end goal, or they would be too far behind to ever muster anything.
The brute's gaze fell back on Shayde, an interesting thought filling his head. Everyone likes the promise of ruling, do they not? he wondered conspiratorially. Those Kamari wolves had been getting on the alpha wolf's last nerve, and perhaps they could do something about it. "Shayde, I have a proposition for you," he murmured, a soft smile gracing his lips for the first time in nearly a year. This idea was one that he was eager to instigate, but he would need the assistance of the others in order to see it through.
"What would you say to being in charge?"
Of course, he would not give her his pack to lead. But once the domination started, there would be other wolves that would need to be supervised, territories to be controlled, and so much more than the brute would be able to handle on his own. Merely watching the femme give in to his orders, even though he could clearly see how resentful it made her, convinced Vorilye that she was the right personality to trust such a task to. She would help to extend his power beyond Acerbus, and there would be nothing anyone could do to stop him.

Vorilye || Mackenzie Valley Brute || Eight Years Old
Upon arriving back at the meeting spot, Shayde dropped the kills at her alpha's feet. There was plenty she could say to him:
"Why couldn't you have done that on your own?", "Did you send me off just to get rid of me?", or, painful to her pride, "Is this all I'm good for in your eyes?" But she kept her mouth shut--figuratively. She sat on her haunches a bit apart from the alpha panting heavily, giving him a rather cold look as he swallowed one of the rabbits she had killed. He should have been a little more grateful. Another curt nod just wasn't enough praise for the red fae.
But she knew that she wouldn't get anything more than just that. A curt nod from the alpha was probably equivalent to a nuzzle from a friendlier wolf. Not that she wanted to nuzzle the alpha. With a short, irritable snarl at herself, she looked away from her alpha again. The last thing she wanted was to be close to another wolf ever again, her alpha or otherwise.
The fae got to her feet again, snatching up one of the remaining rabbits. She carried it over to an empty spot and flopped onto her stomach. She munched on the tiny piece of meat, ignoring the soft conversation taking place not far from where she lay. Even if she had wanted to, the voices were hard to distinguish. She wouldn’t have been able to make out what they were saying.
A feeling of being watched washed over her, and the fae dropped the kill, looking behind her. Nothing. She turned back again, only to find Vorilye watching her. She gave a start, narrowed her eyes at him, and went back to gnawing on her kill. She was the only one near him. He had every reason to stare. Maybe he was thinking of stealing the rabbit from her. Her grip on the rabbit tightened and she let out a defensive growl. She wasn't about to relinquish her kill to anyone, not even her alpha.
He didn't seem interested in her rabbit though. He spoke to her softly, a smile gracing his lips. She grew wary again, wondering what that smile could mean. She narrowed her eyes, calculating. "What sort of proposition..?" The rabbit between her paws went unfinished as she slowly rose to her feet, waiting for whatever he said next.
Even so, she wasn't ready for what he said next.
In charge? Her? He had to be joking...Right? She'd only been a part of the pack for a short amount of time. How could he possibly believe she has what it takes to control the pack? Instead of shocked words, the fae let out a laugh. It was nervous and maniacal, not the sort of laugh most let slip. She laughed for quite some time, believing his words to be a ruse. But when she realized that the alpha hadn't said anything else, nor was he joining her laughter, she stopped abruptly. He was...serious?
"Are you...Have you gone mad?" she cried, stepping away from him. She wanted the power, more than anything she'd ever wanted in the world, but she had a feeling that there was a catch. Power with strings attached isn’t power at all. "If you think I can handle being alpha, you certainly have gone mad."

The she wolf she had woken was staring at her with sharp narrowed eyes, but Angel didn’t pay any attention to the slight show of aggressiveness.
“What? Weren’t you listening?” Angel looked down at the bedraggled she wolf with a disappointed look on her face. “Oh well, I supposed I can tell you again! My name’s Angel and I’m a subordinate of the Descai pack. My alpha sent me to find you.”
And then suddenly another wolf arrived. The white tundra’s tail began to wag even faster and she leapt to her paws in excitement. “Hello there!” she cried. This was so fun! She was going to make so many new friends! It never occurred to her that these wolves might not want to be her friends, and might not even like her. Those thoughts were too difficult to comprehend. How could she not be likeable? She was perfect!
“Hey, what are you doing?” Angel planted her rump down on the sand and watched in puzzlement as the new wolf dragged the weak female to her paws. That didn’t look very comfortable.
She cocked her head, thinking, as the other wolf asked her a question. “Well, I know her name’s Thea, but no… I don’t really know her. We only just met. My alpha sent me to find out what she was doing on Descai lands!”
Thea thanked her for saving her life and Angel’s tail began wagging again. “You’re welcome” she said, just like her mummy had taught her. If Koia could see her now she’d be so proud!
"So, who are you guys? What are you doing here? Do you know any other questions I’m supposed to ask you? I haven’t really done this before, you know” Angel giggled childishly. She was a fully grown wolf – nearing four years old – but she still acted like a little puppy.
The bemused expression on the alpha brute's face told Shayde that he was, in fact, serious. While Vorilye did not intend to make Shayde his alphess, he had big plans for her. While she likely was questioning his judgment for singling her out after such a short period of time, the alpha was a little more experienced than she likely believed. The mackenzie valley brute could spy potential from miles away, and she had the attributes, along with the sass, that would lead her to be very important to the Descai Pack.
While the alpha was not big on letting others in on his plans, he felt this was a good exception to make. Vorilye cast a gaze in the direction he had sent Angel and sighed; he did not wish to await her return. Instead, he returned his stare back to Shayde, speaking with the gentlest voice he had since accepting the femme to the pack. "Angel can handle herself for now. Come, take a walk with me, and I will explain to you what I mean, Shayde," he coaxed her, his smile one that was both devious and sincere. The brute could not act without ulterior motives, but in this case his motives were not against the femme. No, he planned to get revenge on Haishin for harboring Kallik against his wishes, and she would be the mouthpiece for his revenge.
Without waiting to see if the femme was following, the large brute trotted off, headed for Drarynough without a care in the world. That is, not a visible care. The black and gold brute was never completely carefree, as that would indicate weakness. No, he was plotting. Akihra will rue the day she ever set foot in Acerbus, he steamed, the wolves' voices quickly fading into the background. He wanted to be away from the overly bubbly female and converse with the less obnoxious, potentially more beneficial red femme. She would help this pack rise to greatness, and Vorilye would be standing in the wings to take the credit.
His plan was fool-proof.
