He had been away a lot longer than he had anticipated; granted he did not expect to run into a female like Vaniel either… Hopefully Meridian would not be upset with him that he had disappeared for days. The young male was exhausted from his journey. He had not slept much, worry keeping him awake. Worrying about Meri, and if she was going to be okay while he was gone; about Vaniel, and if her life would shortly straighten itself out. There was not much he could do for Vaniel, no matter how badly he wanted to help. He could only be there for her; to support her through her troubled times. Now that was an idea. Kodiak could barely take care of himself most days, how was he also going to take care of someone who had a bigger problem than he had. Shaking his head softly as if to rid his mind of wandering thoughts, Kodiak continued his trek towards the Draynough, hoping to stumble across his sister in the meantime. ---------- Albeit being tired, Kodi kept walking around the large pond that was the life source for those that called Acerbus their home; yet there was no sign of Meri. His first stop was the fallen tree trunk; thick in girth, and aged by the years of tormenting weather and covered in thick moss, it had made the perfect shelter for the young pair just days ago, but now it seemed like just another fallen tree in the woods. It was the last place he had seen his sister, where he told her to stay until he returned. She’d promised to stay put, and said that she was beginning to regain her strength, feeling much better than before. Her scent at the tree was at least a day old, but Meri was known for wandering, so maybe she had found another place to stay. That was how he ended up circling the Draynough, searching for any sign that she was in the area. He had specifically told her not to go anywhere. Maybe she’s gone and joined back up with her pack. Mentally he spit the last word; pack. Her so called pack family had abandoned her in the mines; they had failed to watch after her. What on Earth would make her reconsider joining back up with them? His temper was beginning to rear its ugly head as he considered flushing out the Alpha of this new Descai pack. He was a worthless Alpha anyway, and Kodiak was going to give him more than a piece of his mind. Kodiak had widened his search for Meridian, heading further and further away from the Draynough. His body seemed to have found new life as he energetically picked up the pace; following a half dozen popular trails traveled by deer and wolves alike. He spent the next several hours scouring the Lliengas woods, and with each passing minute he grew more irritated with his sister. In the heat of rambling under his breath everything he was going to say and do to her once he caught up with her, the scent of his sister stopped him in his tracks. By now Kodiak was near the outstretches of Acerbus, there was no reason for Meridian to be all the way out here; none at all. Grimacing he reconfirmed what he smelled; a day or two old track left by his sister, leading further away from where he had told her to stay, and away from Acerbus altogether. Now that he had her trail, he stuck to it like a scavenger following the scent of a recent kill. He did not deviate from her path, not even an inch. It did not take him long to reach the territory boundary where he stopped at the last scent marker before he walked into nomad land; a strip of land that acted as a buffer between territories, a grace land for traveling nomads, hence the name. It was not the distinguished markers that made his pause, but rather a memory that had long been forgotten until déjà vu struck him. This was not the first time Meridian had left Acerbus for Kamari. It was that reason alone he did not travel to Kamari in search of refuge for him and his sister. Although this time around, there was no Mama or Papa to run and tattle too. Kodiak was an adult, and he made his own rules. He would take care of Meri’s wandering once and for all. Or so he believed |
