Ereyu’s paws dragged a little as he stepped into the water of a great, vast lake. It was eerily misty, but Ereyu liked it that way. He dunked his head under the water, clearing his muzzle of the blood that encrusted it. His legs were bleeding freely, turning the black water a deep burgundy color. The moon was full, and it cast a silvery glow upon the water, illuminating it. It was quite the spectacle. Ereyu groaned as the icy water seeped into his wounds. Probably infected, they were, seeing as he kept chewing on them. He sighed, the pain dulling somewhat, the coldness of the water numbing his legs. It felt extremely nice. But, pain also felt nice. At least to him. It was a major turn-on.
Ereyu shook himself, sending oval-ish ripples through the water. They splashed up on the bank behind him, and he chuckled somewhat. For some reason, he found it funny, yet, then again, he was crazy, wasn’t he? Ereyu yipped a little bit and skipped merrily out of the water, whining as his wounds opened more. It was a reflex, the whine, even if it did feel good to the Maned brute. He lapped at his legs, and then started to gnaw on them, much like a coyote would, before he threw his head back suddenly and let out a night-shattering howl. A calling.
Ereyu was calling the Alpha of Acerbus once again; he had failed to show up the last time. A few seconds later and his howl was cut off by a snarl. ”God damnit, shut the f*** up!” he spat at his voices, who immediately started to jeer at him.
’Can’t take it…’ one whispered. ’Poor little Ereyu,’ another snickered cruelly. ’Is it gunna make you cry?!’
On and on the shrieks went, Ereyu was powerless to stop them. Unless…he’d had an idea. He ran back to the water and plunged his head into it. Screaming at the top of his lungs for them to all just get out of his head. Eventually, when Ereyu was ready to pass out from lack of oxygen, the voices faded. Ereyu pulled his head up and gasped for breath. Relief.

On path to Drarynough, an unfamiliar howl reached the alpha and he hastened toward the stranger. Finally, someone who knows the basic etiquette of pack life, he thought with a sneer, his golden socks dancing against the earth as he hurried toward the watery depths of the territory's lake. It had always been his favorite place, particularly because of the eeriness that drifted around the water. It was peaceful, but in a disconcerting way. It was a perfect fit for Vorilye, and he loved every second of it.
When he drew close to the water, Vorilye halted, an amused smirk painting his lips. The thrashing maned wolf had simply shoved his head beneath the water, and the alpha made no motions to assist. If he wanted to kill himself, that was his business. The longer the brute waited, the more impatient he grew. Finally, the maned brute lifted his head, gasping for the life-giving air he had deprived himself. While the display was interesting and all, Vorilye needed to get down to business, particularly if Shayde were to follow to discuss things with him.
"Welcome to Acerbus, brute. I see you have found yourself well acquainted with the land around you," his snide remark nipped at the brute. Vorilye's gold eyes twinkled, a smirk plastered to his face. "What brings you to the lands of Descai, other than an attempt to commit suicide? I'm sure there are other bodies of water around that would suffice without calling the alpha to come clean up what would remain of your body once the lake's monsters dealt with it." Danger flashed through the alpha's eyes; while he was teasing to some extent, his words were also warning. The brute was not one to be trifled with, and he wanted the lanky maned wolf to know that this was not a simple matter for him.
Vorilye was always challenged by other males. While this brute was minuscule next to the black and gold alpha, his temper never failed to flair in the presence of another brute. It was the main reason that his pack consisted purely of femmes at this point. If there were no males around, there was no competition, no chance of deception, and femmes were much simpler to manipulate to his will. Males would sometimes challenge his authority, and he did not want that to be common practice. The brute had accepted Wutender briefly before the brute had vanished. That had been the last attempt to include a male in Descai, and this wolf was not appearing to be the most stable of wolves. He'd be perfect for Angel, he thought fleetingly, an amused twinkle in his eye as he waited for the brute's response.

It almost seemed as if the black and gold brute was leading Shayde right out of Descai territory. She wouldn’t have minded it, really, as his orders are absolute. But she had been expecting a short walk followed by whatever it was he needed to tell her. Could it be that he was worried about being overheard? The thought piqued her curiosity. What could he want to say that he didn’t want the others hearing? Did he trust her so much that he believed she’d keep the information to herself?
Was that why he kept walking without even glancing in her direction; because he trusted her? The action irritated Shayde to no end. It wasn’t difficult to keep up with the brute, but his apparent lack of interest in her accompaniment was plain rude. He’d asked her to take a walk with him, right? Shouldn’t he be checking to make sure she’d followed his orders?
Or maybe he knew I’d be obedient, she thought with a low growl, watching as the brute turned.
A howl cut through the silence, causing the fae to come to a halt. She perked her ears up, listening. It was a calling for the alpha. Immediately, Shayde turned back to the brute in question...and he was gone. She let out a low growl, bounding forward. She wanted to ask him if she ought to turn back. A meeting with a strange wolf should be handled alone, should it not? Well how the heck could she ask him if he was already gone?
By the time she found him, he was already confronting the stranger. A massive lake stood before her, one she’d never seen before. The water was murky, definitely not suitable for drinking. For a few moments, she merely stared at it, jaw hanging slack. Then, with a shake of her head, she took in the scene before her. The strange wolf was panting heavily, as if he’d just run miles and miles. His head was dripping wet, as if he’d just plunged it into the water. And her alpha, the great black brute, had given the stranger no time to recover his breath, asking the same dominating questions she’d been asked herself not so long ago.
Flattening her ears, Shayde started forward. She kept a slight distance from the males. If things got bloody between the two, she wanted to stay out of the brawl. She had no interest conversing with the strange male and saw no point in interrupting the alpha’s obvious glee of tormenting him. With a light sigh, she lay on the ground, crossing her paws before placing her chin on top of them. Patience was never her greatest virtue, and she hoped the conversation wouldn’t take too long.

Vorilye was fed up with waiting. This brute had done absolutely nothing to acknowledge his authority, or even his presence. He would make an example of this wolf. I'll teach these snot-nosed wolves to respect my borders, he thought violently. With a snarl, he seized the wolf by the nape of his neck, his strong jowls dragging the wolf from the water. He was tired of this; he was going to deal with the situation one way or another.
Without so much as acknowledging that Shayde had followed as he requested, he dragged the brute's struggling figure away from the water, throwing him down on the solid ground as he stared down bitterly. "Respect my boundaries, my rules, and my authority here," he sneered to the maned wolf. While this stranger may have been gangly and near his height, he was nowhere near the alpha's weight or overall size. After all, he was the best of the best, and Vorilye made sure everyone knew this when he claimed the territory. Descai would not be a pack inferior to any others. "Get out of my territory."
It was a simple statement, but the venom laced behind the words was beyond recognition to anyone in the area. Vorilye's temper had flared to a higher degree than ever before. With all the strangers in his lands, he had finally snapped. "I will turn my back on you for five minutes. If you are not out of my site, do not expect to leave here alive," he snarled, fangs bared angrily to the brute. With that, he proceeded to completely ignore the brute and turned back to the most sane member of his pack at the moment. He would deal with this brute soon if the maned wolf did not heed his warning.
"Now Shayde, you seemed a bit perplexed by my earlier offer," Vorilye announced with a sinister smile. There were so many things he would like to do to the femme... The only thing holding him back was the current situation with Kallik. The last thing he needed was another whore claiming that he fathered her pups. The lying bitch would get what she deserved in the end, he was sure of it. "I think our pack has the potential to be so much more than what it is, do you not agree? That, my dear, is where you come in."
Vorilye paused, clearing the sadistic look from his face. This was pure fact, not something that he wanted to throw at the femme. "Descai has the potential to spread, to take over those weak wolves in these lands. We are the dominant wolves of the continent, and everyone needs to see. Shayde, I cannot do this alone. You may think I'm crazy, but you will soon see. You are either on board with me, or you are against me." The brute stared down the smaller femme.
"So which is it?"

The longer Shayde lay there, the more impatient she grew. A few times, she flattened her ears and let out a low growl, only to cut herself off moments later in case the alpha grew cross with her. But the waiting...It was not what she had envisioned her "chat" with the alpha would be like. She expected a blunt explanation. Straight to the point. So why was he merely standing there, waiting for this maned brute to speak up? Shayde wouldn't have waited more than a few seconds.
Even the alpha's patience grew thin. Shayde watched, slightly amused, as the black and gold brute viciously dragged the maned brute from the lake, throwing him to the ground like he was nothing more than a rag doll. She smiled as the maned brute was snarled at, before the alpha demanded the brute leave Descai territory. This confused Shayde. Was the alpha fond of being the only male in the lands? Did he see this pathetic brute as some sort of competition? The smile slipped from her maw, tightening instead into a tight line.
Males are all the same, she thought, shaking her head as the black and gold brute spoke up again.
As the alpha turned to face her, Shayde wagged her tail and stretched out before getting to her feet. She could care less about the other brute at this point. She'd been given what she came for; the alpha's full attention. She listened intently as he spoke, nodding slightly at his words. "You didn't exactly elaborate much on the offer," she muttered, turning away slightly. "Of course I would be perplexed..." She glanced at him as he spoke again, turning completely when he mentioned her role in the pack. "Me?" She gave him a flat, wary look. "I still don't quite follow you..."
The brute paused, his face falling into that hard-to-decipher expression he wore most of the time. It irritated the femme not to be able to read him. He spoke again, causing her ears to perk up. He sounded almost desperate to have her help, though she had a feeling that he really could have followed through with his plan all on his own. Having back-up, however...Shayde could see the value in it. But it brought to surface the question:
Was she willing to be his back-up?
Shayde tilted her head slightly, letting everything sink in. She took a few steps away from the brute, looking towards the murky lake. The consequences of turning his offer down would most likely lead to her death. She finally understood why the brute had asked to take a walk with her so they could be alone. She eyed the maned brute. Even if the alpha were to attack her, she doubted the mangy wolf would lend her a paw. He didn't seem fit to fight anyway.
Shayde paced back towards the alpha, only to walk past him, looking into the trees this time. The only logical way out of this situation alive was to follow along with whatever plot he had in mind. She turned back to the brute, narrowing her eyes slightly. Was he willing to divide the glory of this feat evenly should she do as he asked? Or would he take it all for himself, denying that he'd had any help in the matter? Without removing her gaze from the brute's, she walked back over, sitting down a short distance away. "I'm in."
There was a slight pause as she narrowed her eyes further, smirking slightly. "Though I do have one condition, alpha." Shayde knew that he wouldn't be pleased about hearing such a thing, so she spoke quickly. "I expect some sort of...reward for assisting you." She rose to her feet again, turning away to put a little space between herself and the brute, just in case he decided to refuse her. "It doesn't have to be anything impressive. Just a little something to show," she turned back to the brute, staring him right in the eye, "that you appreciate my assistance."

She has been watching the pack for the past few days. She has watched how they operated and interacted. She needs a place where feelings weren't required, where she could serve their leader and not worry about petty drama. This seemed like the place.
She was slightly afraid of what the alpha is going to say when she boldly walk her way into his territory and asked to join. Would she tell him "Oh, yes, you see, I have been stalking your pack members for the past couple days and, uh, yeah." No. Of course not. She couldn't tell him that. What one doesn't know won't hurt them. What if the alpha won't even let her join? She would really be screwed then.
Why does she even want to join a pack. Maybe she should just be a loner like many others. She could live like that. But pack life is what she needs. Once my father said, "Pack life is a place where you know you will constantly be provided for. Where you know there will food and protection. All you have to do is listen and do what you told, please others. Do that and your future is insured."
He was right. She listened to everyone, did as she was told. Her life was perfect. But so boring. Now look where that got her. This is what she needs.
She's sure this pack will be more than glad to tell her what to do.
It is time to stop hiding. Just walk out and say something. Don't show any emotion. "Don't let them figure you out. You can't let them think your weak or too bold and arrogant. That will lead to being kicked out or taken advantage of. This is your chance to start fresh. So quit thinking about it, just do it."
She walked out from the bush sat in front of the two wolves and calmly said "Hello, may I join your pack?"

As the brute had initially believed, Shayde was interested in his offer. After all, what wolf wouldn't be? Vorilye was not an unfair alpha, but he was far from a kind one. This little femme intrigued him, and he wanted to make sure that she would not run off like his last play thing had done. Shayde seemed to have a level head sitting on her shoulders, and Vorilye smiled as he realized just what sort of trouble they could get the pack into if they joined forces.
True, Shayde had already technically joined forces with him by agreeing to join Descai, but this would be different. In exchange for ceding some power to the femme, Vorilye would grow to be even greater. The femme was also, or at least so it seemed, more apt to speak than him, and it only made sense that the pack have a formal spokesperson that was not himself. He was tired of doing all the dirty work and letting the stupid little wolves he called a pack run around frolicking in the trees all day. It was time that they did something influential, and he wanted to make an example out of Kallik in the process.
No one who abandoned Descai would like a happy life ever again.
"Think of how much land is out there, how many wolves wander this continent," Vorilye elaborated on his plan. "Descai could... I don't know, acquire these things for the pack. After they are... acquired, they would answer to one of us. Simple as that."
The brute heard the failed attempt of that foolish alpha that used to run Akihra's pack who had nearly died in the desert trying to encroach on their lands. They would need desert wolves on their side to take over that land, but first they needed to drive Haishin into submission. That foolish eastern timber femme had caused him more trouble that should have ever been allowed, and the loss of control of her pack would be the first step in redeeming himself. Then, Kallik would pay.
"What sort of reward or appreciation are we talking about?" the alpha brute inquired with a smirk. He was all for compensating the femme, but she probably wouldn't be as open to that form of payment as Kallik had been. Stupid femme had simply enticed him in ways that should not have been allowed. She was a temptress, and Vorilye should have known better. Need to get that bitch out of my head, he thought angrily, but the thoughts often flooded his mind of their own accord.
Out of nowhere (and by nowhere, the brute had obviously noticed the presence of the intruder for quite some time, though he had neglected to acknowledge her until he had finished his conversation with Shayde) a femme emerged from the brush, and, without so much as an introduction, asked to join Descai. "That is IT!" the brute roared, lunging at the femme with claws slashing.
"You stupid, inconsiderate, foolish loners don't know the first blasted thing about etiquette!" he snarled as he leapt. "Leave here, NOW!"

Helena had assumed the grumpy alpha would respond this way. She neatly dodged his clawing attempts.
She slightly smiled. He seemed like the type of wolf who would lose their head easily in a fit of anger. It was kind of comical actually, she loved watching wolves lose their head.
"Well if you insist, I will leave you alone. For now." With a wink and a sly smile, she quickly ran out of ear shot.
She desperately needed to join a pack, and here was the perfect opportunity. She couldn't just run away from this. She decided she would creep around more. Then make another appearance soon.
Would this annoy the pack? Of course it would. But eventually he will either have to let her in, say no, or run her off. She has a feeling he wont tolerate this for long. It would make him look weak if he doesn't rid of her soon. What kind of alpha can't control loners in their territory? Eventually she will have to leave if not accepted. But until then, she is just going to focus on the task ahead of her. Getting accepted.
But she is going to have to try a different approach. It's not very wise to piss off the alpha of the pack your trying to get into. But what could she do? Hunt?
This alpha doesn't seem like the kind who is easily won over. If anything she will just have to put in a lot of effort.
Meanwhile, while she is spying on the camp she can listen to all the dirty secrets and private conversations. That could be useful right? Hey, whatever works.
It was almost completely dark, these nights were so frigid. The Mexican Wolf wasn't use to such cold weather. "These next couple of night are going to suck," she muttered under her breath.
The silence encompassing the pair seemed to drag on. The alpha brute hadn’t spoken up right away after Shayde had come to her decision. It was chilling, to say the least. He could completely turn her down, or chase her out of his territory in an angry rage. The femme suppressed the urge to shudder at the thought. Was that really an option, though? Chasing her off? She knew his plans. It could be a liability to him.
She could have just sealed her fate.
On the surface, Shayde remained completely calm. The last thing she wanted was the brute to realize just how terrified she was truly feeling. If he knew, he might read it as a desire to take back her decision. At this point, it was probably too late for that. She waited, eyes fixated on his, hoping, praying that those gold orbs would reveal what he was thinking.
And then he smiled.
The worry, the fear, all melted when she saw that change in expression. It was clear that his thoughts were certainly positive, unless he planned on smiling as he tore her to pieces.
I wouldn’t really put it past him, she thought cynically. His actions with the maned brute proved that he was a little zealous when it came to his aggressive tendencies. But the words that followed supported her guess of his positive thoughts. He seemed rather excited about the potential laying before Descai. A light chuckle escaped Shayde’s lips as she wagged her tail in agreement. With a partnership such as theirs, Shayde felt they could bring the pack very far.
When the brute inquired on her reward, Shayde frowned. “I hadn’t put any thought into it. I just wanted to assure compensation.” She sat on her haunches, looking out over the water. The smirk on the brute’s face was a little unnerving. Almost as if he had his own plans for compensating her. Did she want to know what those plans were? Possibly. “That is something that can be decided on at another time, if that is what you wish.”
A sudden realization crossed Shayde’s mind: She didn’t even know the brute’s name. How was she to cooperate with a wolf whose name she did not know? As she opened her mouth to speak, the scent of a stranger filled her nostrils. She turned to where the femme entered, watching cautiously as the Mexican wolf sat down close by. Was she a pack member? Shayde pinned her ears back as the strange femme spoke up. “This conversation is private,” Shayde snarled, rising to her feet.
Before she could say anything else, the alpha brute took the situation into his own paws. He roared with rage, lunging at the smaller femme so quickly that it startled Shayde slightly. She backed up to give the alpha room to teach the intruder a lesson. But it appeared the femme was lighter on her feet than she looked. She gave a rather cocky response and darted into the woods.
Shayde let out her own snarl of rage, turning to the alpha. “May I kill her, alpha?” Every ounce of her being wanted to chase after the femme and rip her limb from limb, a feeling she hadn’t encountered in a while. But she decided that she wouldn’t follow through unless she had the alpha’s permission.
Not that she wouldn’t seek the femme out after their chat was over...

There were not words that could accurately describe the brute's fury as the femme sidestepped his attack. Yet instead of darting off toward the border as Vorilye had expected, she scurried back in through the trees, obviously heading nowhere near the border. That thought alone brought such rage into the brute's golden eyes that they visibly reddened. No one treated him like an amateur, and they sure as hell did not disobey a direct order from him.
Vorilye was the alpha of these lands, and he would see to it that the femme did not make it out of Acerbus alive. After all, he planned on making this continent his. There would be nowhere left for her to hide when he was done. A cruel smirk spread across the brute's blackened lips as the sinister thoughts flooded his mind. She may have escaped his first attack, but he would do everything in his power to rid this land of her paltry existence, and not even a memory of her life would remain when he was done. He would bury her bones in the waters of Drarynough, where the monsters that dwelled beneath the surface would make a nice meal of the foolish wolf who dared to challenge the alpha brute.
The golden and black male did not escape his train of thought until Shayde inquired whether she could give chase to the wolf. A curt nod gave Shayde all the authorization she would need; the brute had given thought to her usefulness, but she was certainly proving herself to be an excellent assistant. In the enraged state he currently was in, there would be little reason behind his attacks. Part of it was overspill from the Kallik matter, but the rest was a result of the foolish wolves who continually bursted into his lands. From rumors of the territory, the last alpha had not taken nicely to intruders, either. So why was it that everyone thought it was a brilliant idea to burst in on the most dangerous pack in Anikira?
An indignant huff slipped through the brute's maw as he settled himself to wait. It was plainly obvious that the wolf had not ventured far; her scent still lingered in the area. Shayde would find her, and then they would make an example of her. Maybe she would not be thrown into the lake, after all. Perhaps Vorilye would find a way to string up her body along the pack's border as a warning to anyone else who would dare to trespass on Descai's lands. These stupid lone wolves needed to learn at some point, and he would make it his goal to leave them a reminder that would chill them to the bone.
Meanwhile, the brute was slowly calming down. While he was still livid, and hoped with every fiber of his being that Shayde would bring the femme back still alive so that they could torture her some, he was impressed by her willingness. He could see that there was still some uncertainty in her - after all, who wouldn't be uncertain if he approached them with the proposition that he had Shayde? - but in all likelihood, she would accept and help him bring Descai to the greatness it truly deserved.

Shayde’s eyes darted back and forth between the alpha and the forest the strange femme had disappeared into. The rage in her veins was beginning to climb to a more potent level. Soon, she would be completely blinded by it, and would chase the femme without getting the affirmation she was waiting on. But just before that moment could arrive, the alpha gave her a curt nod. The message clicked instantly, and the red femme took off after the Mexican femme.
Attempting stealth never passed Shayde’s thoughts. All she wanted to do was sink her teeth into the flesh of the femme who had so rudely intruded on the conversation. Death may not be what the femme deserved, however. The thought cooled some of Shayde’s rage, bringing the femme to a slightly slower pace.
What shall I do then? she thought with a frown. She darted left, closing in on the female with each step. Bring her back to the alpha? She mulled the thought over as she trotted. When she finally reached her destination, the answer was clear.
Even if I have to drag her, the alpha will wish to punish her himself.
It didn’t matter much if the Mexican femme noticed her presence or not. Shayde walked right up to her, head held high. With a low, warning growl, she got into a more intimidating stance. “Did you really believe we would let you simply walk off without any consequences on your part?” Shayde lunged forward, though simply rushed past the femme, spinning around when she was behind the wolf. “You will go back to the alpha, though there is a choice you must make. Either you go willing,” Shayde smirked devilishly, cherishing the next words to past her lips, “or I drag you.”
