She seemed be genuinely taken aback by his reaction. Perhaps it is because life has made her believe the world is cold. He mused this to himself as he saw her mouth open then close without a sound emitting from it. He pitied her then, a pretty fea like herself stumped by a few words of compassion. Life was sometimes so cruel and harsh that it didn't seem to care what long lasting effects it had on those poor souls it chose to play poorly.
He watched her eyes seem to cloud over but he didn't have time to ask with she was thinking before she shook her head with what seemed to be impatience. Thinking it would be better not to ask, Kenai remained silent on the matter and let her continue to sort her thoughts.
When she finally did speak, it was a simple yet dark statement of shadows choking out whatever happiness she may have had. He lowered his head slightly, but he had nothing as a reply to such words. She then turned a little philosophical in stating that life wasn't supposed to be easy. "True, it enjoys testing what one is made of. It is only with permission of one if he is to be over run by life. However, no one can be a stead fast pillar all the time. Even solid rock becomes worn by the constant trickle of water."
By then the storm had moved on and the skies quiet. He wasn't sure is she was edgy and desired to leave or if she was simply tired. "Do you wish me to go hunt for you? Or do you wish something else?" He wasn't one to push another into something they weren't ready for. If she didn't want to be in his company any longer, he wouldn't think anything of it.
She spoke of his uniqueness and even acknowledged she would see him as friend. It pleased him greatly to hear such words from one who was alone and endured rough and tumble times. At least he may have given her a little light, even of she didn't see it just now.
